After reading about the A600 webserver the other day I thought i'd nockup a stats page for my A1200 webserver, which runs httpd, ftpd, smb and telnetd.

Few hours of messing about and this is what I've come up with:

www.amiga.kicks-ass.org

Any IE users out there, I couldnt get the table layout correct under IE, but it displays fine in Mozilla and IBrowse2.3 so

Very nice. The table layout doesn't quite work on Opera 8.5 either, the left and right border pictures are repeated.

@VooDoo

The whole point for me running my A1200 server is for silence... Using a PPC isnt going to be a silent operation at all

With my server nothing is activly cooled, and when the HDD isnt in use it goes to sleep. So when no ones on the server its totally silent, just the way I like it

Even when it is being used theres only a slight sound from the HDD.

@Ryu

Now you just need to write up a tutorial , preferably step by step, so others can make 1200 web servers too ;))
..hint hint.. lol

Hehe, I pressed the reload button in IBrowse for about 5-6times. I could see cpu free-time in your stats went down from 98% to 80% ;) Thats hightech !

@SHADES

There really isnt anything to getting an A1200 serving like my A1200... Install some OS on it, put miami or genesis on it install ixemul.library, get thttpd from aminet and run it... done

Getting MySQL to work is proving more troublesome and I dont fancy touching apache just yet.

A very interesting project - made me think, I may set an A1200 up to do this.

For a truly quiet operation have you considered a Compact Flash drive instead of the HDD.

@amigakit

Considered yes... realistic no

The 4GB drive in it is already looking a little too full for my liking and I think I might need to remorgage the house to afford something of that size in CF

Also the number of writes a CF can have would worry me a bit since im always using it through samba to move files around from one machine on my LAN to another.

Man does MD5Summing take an age on an 030... I downloaded a 400MB zip to bambi (name of my A1200 server, best not to ask ) during the night and im now checking its downloaded okay.. Hence if anyone now loads the stats page youll find the CPU down to 33% free and the page taking 13 seconds to generate rather than 0.7

I am running Apache 1.3.20 here - what is the latest release on the Amiga (68K) and where can it be found?

@amigakit

oh la-de-da

Thought about apache but I dont really need it, thttpd is so much smaller and easier to handle, and it has support for cgi, php and mysql so really for me apache is overkill

Ok, I want in. I've always wondered though, how do you know what address your site will be? You guys seem to be using the names you want. You still have to connect to the net, so are you your own ISP or something?

@lurkist

Im on Cable with an almost static IP address... I use www.dyndns.org for my address... Even if your on a dynamic ip address there are apps on aminet t that will automatically update your account on dyndns.org to reflect your new IP.

Prety easy really

@Ryu

32MB Ram? 68030? Now that's just cheating :)

By the way, have you tried using AmiTCP or Genesis instead of MiamiDX ? On the tests I did on my A4000 the AmiTCP kernel was almost twice as fast as Miami.
