Okay, so here's what I think is going on: Amiga are being renamed as Commodore, Dave Haynie has been signed up as CEO and resurrected the AAA chipset for use in a new Motorola 68080 running at 5 GHz, and the new Amigas will be the size of matchboxes and powered by human body heat. Microsoft has admitted they only really wanted to sell copies of MS BASIC, so have decided to close down almost all their operation and free up developers for writing AmigaOS 4 software.

It's either that, or giant ants have taken over the Earth.

Seriously though, I'm just not that bothered. I kinda fluctuate with excitement over the happenings at Amiga Inc. - the OS 4 stuff is the main part of my Amiga future unless someone a) gets the damn AA SDK running on OS 4 or Mac OS X and b) can show a proper market outside simple games. Even then, OS 4 will be the most useful tool for me.

Frankly, I don't think that anyone here cares what Ryan does. What has he ever done that amounted to anything? All he's good at is hot air, grand delusions, and wasting money that he probably didn't earn in the first place.

Could we possibly get back on topic? You know, Garry Hare leaving Amiga Inc? And who might still be left at Amiga Inc? Unlike Ryan, that has a major and immediate impact on the future of the Amiga, since Hyperion would like them to license Troika's board to run OS4.

It's not like I'm craving to know what's going on behind the scenes, but it certainly looked like a question that should have popped in anyone's mind. Anyone with critic sense, that is.

Do you realize that you just insulted the intelligence of everyone in this thread that are not as agressively questioning things that we all know that only time will be able to tell anyway, as you are doing here?

BTW, criticism is not something to be confused with critique. Anyone can complain and point out wrongs, but to give critique would be to analyze postive as well as negative aspects of something. It seems to me that you could use a little more critique in your "critic sense". Even better is if you can make something constructive out of it too. Such skills is the sign of real intelligence, IMO.

He is - he's working on AROS.

@jorkany

In what way is developing for AROS doing something constructive for the matter of the "Amiga Corporation" and wether it is a possible trademark violation or not? That is what he is using his "critic sense" for in this particular context and that is what I was talking about.

@Mikey_C

i was curious as well because in the us this would be an issue. especially if the person creating the new company had any connection to computing.

btw iirc the reason to be concerned is the same reason that landowners need to know exactly where their land lines are. did you know if a person puts up a fence around his yard and crosses somebody elses land in the process. and the other person does not notice or care that he did that. after 5 years the land becomes the property of the person that put up the fence.

Nice try, but:

1) not having critic sense doesn't mean being stupid, and I didn't certainly mean it that way
2) having critic sense doesn't mean "aggressively question things"
3) what exactly is that I'm "doing here"? That was my first post in the thread.

Are you really sure it's me the one you wanted to reply to? You see, I never talked about "criticism" nor "critique", neither I confused the two. I talked about "critic sense", which is the ability and the will to question things, see them from different perspective, making connections between them, rather than take anything that they feed you as "given and untouchable".

Notice I'm not claiming not having critic sense is a bad thing. I'm not claiming it's good either, however. Such judgmenents are simply out of the scope of my two liner message, and the fact you try to focus on them tells about you more than what you effectively wrote.

Fine, but I don't see how asking Rogue would be of any use whatsoever

I mean you may as well ask him what's next on Steve Jobs plans.

Just cos they have a license from Amiga inc, doesn't make them best buddies.

Does it?

It certainly popped into mine, and probably most everyone else's here. The difference between T-bone and me, though, is that I realized that, as long as RC isn't selling an operating system or 'multimedia' content using the 'Amiga' brand name, there's nothing that the people in Snoqualmie/NY/San Francisco/wherever can do about it.

That's the beauty of US trademarks. You actually have to compete in the same market to infringe them. Since Ryan doesn't currently compete in -any- market, it's kinda tough for him to be a problem.

@T-bone
I hope this answers (some of) your question(s). ATM, AInc is -powerless- to do anything about RC. They have to wait for him to actually -do- something.

@thread
As to Garry leaving, I didn't notice any difference in Amiga Inc a month ago, or yesterday, and I don't expect to notice any difference tomorrow.

@Garry
So long, and thanks for all the t-shirts.

no it don't and asking rogue was a bad call but i believe he was hoping rogue had some insight into the affair. nothing more.

No, it wasn't a reasonable question, I mean, why post that on here and not via email? No one really cares what Ryan whatsisname is doing or up to.

All it has done is wind Rogue up and to be honest, no one here gives one iota about the question apart from you two it seems.

It's too sad for words.

What the hell is wrong with you people? It was a perfectly reasonable question.
What makes you think it wasn't asked privately first? The question has been asked for weeks with no answer from anyone.

As for your comment about nobody caring, that's absurd.

My god man settle down, it's a simple question. Why a few of you are making this a personal issue is beyond me.

As for "me winding Rogue up", as I told a mod in a PM yesterday, he replied to *me*, and I said nothing to him that he hadn't already said to me FIRST.

I can't even begin to imagine why this is so controvercial. Holy cow.

I realise that, that's not the question. I was kind of hoping Amiga Inc would make a statement saying "That has nothing to do with us, or our business", because in absence of a statement like that about an associate taking your company name, it looks really suspicious.

it's only reasonable that someone would clear this up publically.

I didn't ask Rogue, untill after he jumped down my throat for asking in the first place. If he didn't want to be involved, I would have respectfully ignored him.

I think what is uppsetting people is that it sounds like you are expecting "us" to
know answers to those questions. We don't know the answers anymore than you, we can only speculate.

Hmm

A great deal of energy being expended to no purpose. A classic 'Amiga' community thread.
