What bothers me is the facade of innocence by individuals that know better. The names attached to the so-called critical questions are regulars and they know darn well what they are doing. Reputations have been well established. You'll find online personalities suddenly alter when the same names appear in non-AW.net forums._________________ ExecSG Team Lead |

| My god man settle down, it's a simple question. Why a few of you are making this a personal issue is beyond me. |
I'm afraid you're the one making an issue of this! It's definitely not personal either. So many times in the past people take snippets of information and blow them all out of perspective just like you're doing here.
It gotten to the point where people in general (I mean ordinary peole who are tired of hearing the continual bickering that always ensues thereof) feel they have to get in there and work some rumour control at an early stage.
Quote:
| I can't even begin to imagine why this is so controvercial. Holy cow. |
Thats just the problem. It's not controversial at all but when you claim it is you start yet another rumour. Most here have said it doesn't interest them so how can it be controversial?
you started by saying Quote:
| I think everyone is tiptoeing around the "Merlancia" connection, as nobody has even bothered touching the question. | A question you pose that is so far from anyone elses mind you have to mention it again Quote:
| (I have a feeling the most important asset, the name, has either been licensed, sold, or they are just not interested in defending the trademark anymore) | and even then noone gets your point until somone takes the bait and asks you to explain Quote:
What gives you that feeling Mr Bone?
The fact that Ryan Czerwinski of Merlancia has registered a Corporation by the name of "Amiga" and nobody will even comment on it. |
In a thread that up until then was pretty much on topic as a thread gets here at AW!
On top of that you keep on insisting thatQuote:
| What the hell is wrong with you people? It was a perfectly reasonable question. | which I have yet to see you explain how it could in any way be pertinent for anyone here. Or "reasonable" for that matter.
If you can't say what he (Ryan whoever he is) is doing or planning or selling then you certainly can't accuse him of anything either!
I'm not trying to defend this Ryan (Dr., rich mans son, whatever) but I can't judge him for something he hasn't done and a court of law won't do that either.
Since everyone else who has posted here doesn't know any more than zilch about this then it seems really meaningless to keep asking for answers.
This thread has now reached an all time low so I will not sink it further with anymore comments.

THAT doesn't bother me. There's nothing wrong with not knowing the answer, hell, I don't know the answer either. What bothers me is people getting all personal because I had the "nerve" to ask the obvious and perfectly reasonable question, abuse reports being made because I said the same things to someone in a reply that they had JUST SAID to me one post above, people accusing me of riling up people who were attacking ME,Mikey_C commenting how "sad" it is that I was curious about the situation, etc. It's all ridiculous and a storm in a teacup. it's unnecessary, and an unreasonably hostile mass response to a question asked in good faith.

| @mods.
any chance you could lock the thread guys... its getting out of hand.
@T_Bone
I do sympathise with you, I have many many questions.
Suggestion: place a carefully worded and explicit question in its own thread. :)
@Mikey_C
I understand your point but I think the original question got lost.
@all...
Amiga, Inc. have caused enough trouble... don't you think?

Not sure how you come to that conclusion Sven. If it wasn't for Amiga inc Hyperion would not have the licence to develope OS4. |

No need to lock the thread, we'll just stay on topic from now on. No more Merlancia ok?

Mainly as that is one of 3 things that they have done that are good. Everything else has been bad IMHO. Oh and all Amiga, Inc. did was send Fleecy (who IMHO is a damn good bloke) to sign a piece of paper. It was Eyetech and Hyperion that made that happen. _________________ Sven Harvey Amiga Mart in Micro Mart, Geekology 4M@, and other places A1000, A2000, A1500 A500, CDTV, A500+, A600, A4000, A1200, CD32, AT A1200HD, A1-XE |

Getting some grumblings from people moaning about how this thread has gone downwards.
Please keep it on topic or start another thread, else it will have to be locked.

Yes, Indeed, I know that fleecy had/has (not sure anymore) Amiga blood in him. However he has disappeared of late, not a squeak from him. Wonder if he did sold out his dream of getting the Amiga Computer/OS back on it's feet again.

| As for Garry Hare leaving... thanks for the Tee Shirt, but it leaves Amiga, Inc. beign utterly irrelevant to all markets and not just ours. Who are they trying to kid with their product range? (and by that I mean where they are targetting... not the quality of what the developers have produced for the De/AmigaAnywhere/whatever-its-called-this-week)
@Mikey_C
If Fleecy did sell out... it was probably to feed his kids... I didnt like the sound of the financial state he was in last time I spoke to him. Last edited by SvenHarvey on 22-Oct-2005 at 07:59 PM. Last edited by SvenHarvey on 22-Oct-2005 at 07:58 PM.

I'm not sure why they even saw the name "Amiga" as a benefit to the DE effort, most anyone who is impressed by a product labelled "Amiga" would be more likely to be a fan of OS4 and the hardware it runs on than DE anyway, although I guess it's a holdover from the time when the DE was supposed to BE the new OS.

That's a shame. No matter how much I might have done things differently, I hate to see people spending years of their life invested into something with no returns. I wonder where we would be now if everything they tried was half as successful as they'd hoped it would be?_________________ "If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you." - Oscar Wilde |
