|
I never met him (in case anyone is wondering), but I know various people who have told me stories that make one's hair stand up.
So, I wouldn't trust him for the time of day.
Garry Hare, on the other hand has not lied to anyone that I know of. He came in, did a fine job with the court case, helped send out many t-shirts - which was unexpected. At least by me!
And who knows what else he did aside from just stablizing the company. such as it is. At least one can say he left the situation in better shape. |
Yes, ryan does have some serious malfunctions. He is one of the deluded with big dreams, yet no knowledge or money to back it up. The only reason he registered "Amiga Corp." is because the state isn't wise to him yet, and let him. In a year or so, it won't be registered because he won't file the needed documents, and the 'company' will be de-registered.
ryan is just another one that really wants to be a big name in the Amiga universe. That's why he hired a few big names a few years ago. He hired them because of who they were, and then he could use the names for his own fantasy. He didn't pay them and the fantasy came crashing down soon after. He ruined some of these people.
Gary Hare was hired for his contacts. Not unusual. By the look of it, he accomplished the task he was given, and has moved on. Not really that unusual either. At least Amiga is still around, unlike many of their contemporaries.
PS: if you have the DVD of the Deathbed Vigil, there may be an interesting bonus feature hidden away on the disc. It is an encrypted file, but it may be unlocked some day in the future. |

This is becoming the longest thread about the word "maybe".

The only statement from Ray Akey / Hmetal about Dr Hare, from Amiga.com/forums:
"Doesn't mean I'm not here anymore and Amiga is still doing business. That's all I have to say at this time."

HA! sounds just like BBRV. and what a mess THAT was! I love how all these megalomaniacs have so much in common. Big Ideas. no respect. no money. didn't ryan completely screw up AmigaZone so that all the files on those servers were lost because he didn't pay for them? (The servers, i mean) He really needs to be hung for that.

Garry's mail came from the same email address he'd used previously in communications with AW, DaveyD in particular. Yes, you can spoof mail, but does it really even matter?!!
Most of us could care less at this point what AInc does, as long as they don't interfere with OS4. They've proven time and again to be doing little that would help us as far as we can see.
They are not publicly traded, so owe 'us' nothing regarding their CEO leaving, or much of anything else. Get over it.
Ray's intentionally ambiguous comment on A.org if anything, only solidifies it as fact Garry has left. If not, there would be no reason to be ambiguous instead of staying, 'It's a rumor, Garry is still here.'
Of course, I'd like to know 'the story' behind it as well....but I'm just not sure it has any relevance to anyone on this forum that's posting so adamantly that 'we deserve to know' and other crap. No, we don't, we'd like to know and that's all. If he left for personal reasons, or for whatever reasons, it's vaguely possible AInc is working on some contract (who knows, it looks like they occasionally at least make press announcements if nothing else, ie NHL 'partnership'), and publicizing the fact their CEO just left might jeopardize their position.
So, unless you personally have $ vested in AI or AA, until seeing otherwise, who cares? AInc has yet to deliver on basically anything they've ever claimed or announced, so as long as they don't interfere with OS4, leave them alone to their PO Boxes, 'invisible office,' and total lack of respect, lack of communication, and everything else we've come to 'love' about them. If that changes at some point that affects us, then at least there will be facts.

Heh, I placed an order for Amiga Forever earlier today. That was my first Amiga related product I bought since OS 3.9. | With Garry, do his plans leave as well?
I know they just got some kind of deal with the NHL, but that could just be a consignment deal.
With as little involvement as Amiga Inc has with AmigaOS these days, it wouldn't be that unrealistic that they really did sell the name to Ryan. [edit- in fact, it would be a smart thing to do, if you need the money, and arn't otherwise making any from it.]
Maybe someday the questions and answers will start arriving at the same time rather than months apart, sometimes years.

I'm really not an expert on Garry Hare but here is my take on the events leading up tp his resignation?:
Garry Hare - Garry is/was an investor! He has a pretty impressive resumé but the last years he has been working investing funds for ............drum roll............ investors! Through his contacts (he seems to have a few) investors with some project in mind would get a hold of Garry and he would help them realize these goals through other conacts and careful research ie. They provide the money and he makes the contacts that would ensure the goal is met. I presume that most of this work is speculative and made by people with more money than they need, therebye making the initial investment a gamble of sorts and not always having to guarantee a return. I doubt he ever had much knowledge of the amiga up to his initial involvement.
KMOS - Garry said the name means nothing. It was something he made up and thought it sounded good. Don't recall if he ever said it straight out but my impression is he registered the name only to have something to put his own name to. In light of this it's not that strange that if Garry wanted to, he could just transfer the name of KMOS to Amiga Inc. since, at least the one, was no more than a paper product.
Amiga Inc. - I have yet to see any facts that Garry had any REAL plans to include Amiga Inc. in anything that had to do with the investment project he was dealing with originally. They might have touched on one another in certain areas and sparked a bit of interest with Garry but without any evidence I know of today, if there was any interaction in reality, it must have fell through.
THE COURT CASE - Even at the time, speculations from the "dark side" claimed that Garry was only there to save Amiga Inc. from "the clutches of the dark one" which may have been all what it was about.
Personally I prefer to accept annoncements for what they are and not to try to read a bunch of crap into every word. Everyone has to draw their own conclusions, of course based on their own knowledge.

It would be quite unrealistic to sell to Ryan unless he had a real s##t load of money to give and still if they have any plans to do something with the amiga then they wouldn't sell the name.
If Ryan has a plan for something it would be enough to sell him the rights to use the name for a certain product. This would have to be regulated according to a contract. Something like the famous contract with BB and his several vapourware products, only it would be nice if this time there was money up front!
But this is entering the realm of WILD speculation and has no base anywhere so please this is not anything I think is happening. Even remotely!
So to answer your question again Quote:
| With Garry, do his plans leave as well? | I believe that not much had changed with Garry's arriving on the scene except the chance for some big investors contributing to Amiga Inc. barring this (and it would appear nothing came of it) the only obvious benefit was his strong action to end the court case, some structure in amiga inc. to settle things down for awhile and then the t-shirts.
Anything else is only more speculation, as far as I know, unless someone else can enlighten me.

Unless they were only offered money for the name itself. The company "Amiga Inc" really isn't doing anything with the name anyway. Ryan's a rich kid with money, if I had the name Amiga, and I wasn't using it, I'd sell it for the right price, especially if I were having money problems and was trying to market something else anyway.

Ryan's no good with contracts, and Amiga Inc don't have the resources to enforce them. Cash sales are pretty much foolproof.

That's really more of an opinion. My guess is that they are still active and interested in keeping the brand name, that IS what they wanted all along. There is nothing that they are doing with the DE/AA that the rights to the name gave them.

Amiga Inc owes him at least $100,000.00 already, has paid I think $70,000.00 for the walker, was involved in a failed deal to buy into Nova Design for $270,000.00, had an insurance claim for over $1,000,000.00, I don't think money's a problem. How much is the name Amiga worth anyway? It hasn't been used on a product for over a decade barring spinoff trademark products like the AmigaOne (Which is an Eyetech trademark anyway, not licensed mind you, an actual Eyetech trademark), and AmigaAnywhere, which is a separate trademark anyway. There is no product with the trademark "Amiga" tied to it.
About the only value the Amiga name is to Amiga Inc, is in licensing the name. Who licenses the Amiga name now? Not Eyetech, they own their AmigaOne trademark, Not Cloanto, as they own their Amiga Forever trademark (*), as far as I can tell, NOBODY is licensing the Amiga name itself. What is the name, that brings in no licensing fee's, and is not tied to any product, worth to them sitting in a box? Hell, sell it to the rich kid, pay some bills and promote the core business.
(*) Well, they did untill February 2005, it's listed as abandoned now, don't know what that's about. Someone'll probably start a Moobunny thread about it now.

What are they doing that requires the brand name? The AmigaOne doesn't use it, AmigaOS4 doesn't use it, the Amy05 doesn't use it, AmigaAnywhere doesn't use it. These are all independant trademarks, and wouldn't be affected by the sale of the "Amiga" trademark.

All the more reason? It'd be useless. Nova Design had a contract with Ryan, they had to sue him in court for $270,000.000 anyway. He does wierd things like claim a trailer was broken into and revises a $3000 claim to over $1,000,000.00 because he "forgot" how much it was really worth when he originally filed. He sued himself in court during bankruptcy. He lied to Dave Haynie about his mother the unrelated "secretary" who ran the company. I don't think Amiga Inc could afford to chase Ryan around, let's face it, he's slippery when it comes to these things, it would get expensive trying to enforce ANY deal other than a cash exchange, and even then you'd better count the cash and make sure the ink on the money isn't smudging. Basically, any "deal" you make with this guy seems to end up before a judge, so you'd better be prepared for the costs of enforcing it.

I question whether "AmigaOS4" is trademarked at all. As an example, the website http://www.amigaos4.com has nothing to do with AmigaOS4, yet Hyperion did not wrest that domain away from it's current owner for their own OS4 website.
