So you DO get my joke; the four rocks in my post. Rock one, rock two, rock three and roquefort.
I still don't get the bit that's supposed to be amusin though, throwing a piece of cheese. Is this something rude I haven't come across, or is cheese-throwing a tradition in Peterborough?_________________ SEX SUX

does Windows *really* suck that much these days? I'll probably be driven out of town for saying this but XP is quite nice - certainly far better than Windows 9x in the "bad old days." |
Right. . . XP is an improvement. Trouble is, when the Windoze install goes south, you still lose the rgistry and you still have to reinstall all your programs again. I set up my Windoze boxes the same way as my Amiga's: Separate partitions for System, Programs, Data, and Telecom. But even though the programs are still "there" when the inevitable Windoze reinstall occurs, they're not REALLY there, and it's not just a matter of adding an assign. THe only way to get all those details back into the registry is to reinstall the software.
A power outage had me doing just that about a month ago at work.
(no, I'm not going to donate a UPS to work to avoid this. If they want me spending my professional time fixing a computer problem, so be it.)

Yes, XP is better, but the only thing that can make Windoze XP look good is an older version of windoze.
OS4 is reportedly still incomplete, but those that have it say it doesn't feel like a beta version at all, although there's the odd issue of instability and incompatibility, I reckon it's still not as bad as XP.
Maybe we should have a poll, "OS4 vs XP" in terms of stability, ease of use etc.._________________ SEX SUX

I certinly agree that OS4 seems more stable and faster than XP. The newest IDE drivers seem a little "odd" since installation a few minutes ago. (only in that it seems to take a lot longer to boot) But I (still) find the Amiga computing experience much more pleasant than XP.

Flamed? I agree on the last point, too. I've never bothered to put Linux back on the A1 ever since the first pre-release.

Instability ? My system is really stable. The only problems I had so far were due to a faulty HardDisk I had to change ! Incompatibility ? Yes and no... Depends how you want to see it... You can also say than M$ is incompatible with AOS4, or the other way around, it's "up to you". The only thing I'm really missing now is a FireFox port or equivalent... Then Games like BlackCrypt. I just installed FinalWriter (yesterday) and it's way faster than M$Word... And give me enough functionalities for my needs (so far). Indeed I rarely used Macro for words, Maps, Wordart, etc...

Only previous version of windows can be worse than XP. Even OS400, OS9, AIX,etc... are better than XP (though not much eyeCandy as it's text based... it's far more stable).

I believe, we already had a POLL like that...

Dunno too much about XP, but W2k rock stable. There are ways to shoot Win in less than a second (I learned those methods while programming under W2k), but in normal usage the system is really stable. Anyway, there are other flaws (many many many of them!) on Win which make it inconvenient and no fun to use, but stability is not a prob at all if your system is well balanced._________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

Yes, it's starting to get tiring, but if you don't like it just ignore it.
If it gets really bad, the mods will deal with it appropriately.
Instead let's talk about WHY OS4 rocks. I've already said what I can, I need to own it to find out more.
ATM the only things preventing me from buying OS4 are lack of money, and that it doesn't lokk like I'd be able to continue my Amiga-generated anims on OS4 yet. Oh... and the shortage of HW._________________ SEX SUX

Bye RF. Simply because you 'behaved' for a week or so doesn't change the fact you were told time and again to leave Moderation to the Staff. You are not Staff, and it's really of no concern to you. Have a nice 2 days off as a 'yes, we were serious when we said it, time and again. Next time, you might want to actually listen and leave Moderation to the staff without your and BS comments.
If you think there's a problem, then Abuse Report it, otherwise, we really need no help from you of all people. No more warnings either, no more wasted PMs, just...no more. |
Are you just playing with us? Is it difficult to read and act upon something? I wonder.

Riiigghht. Saying that as you watch a DVD on one LCD, connected via DVI, and work with Java on another, while browsing a CSS site with IBrowse or AWeb, are ya?
It's great to have a passion for AOS, but that shouldn't also IMO create a 'reality warp' field, simply because you wish it were so. We have a member or two that seems to do just that already.
I'd love to hear how OS4 is 'more complete already than any of M$ products' though...
