All good points. I have been hesitating to buy an X5000 because I really want the four core version that is (hopefully) due to be produced in the future.
And I have a couple of MorphOS systems, so I'm already using NG. I'd also like to build an AROS system, but my current X64 hardware isn't completely supported, so I'll need to buy some more hardware.
If the X5000 X4 iusn't produced fairly soon, I'll probably buy an X2 model just to be sure I get an X5000.
Unless the T2080 based laptop gets produced, I feel the X5000 may be the high point in our development and use of Amiga related PPC hardware.
Its bound to be a real collectors item. And the price isn't that bad. |

Yeah, I'd heard a few comments from people that had the early development boards that the cpu cooling fan was pretty loud. I haven't seen any comments from people with a production board, but Amiga On The Lake has a replacement heatsink/fan that is supposed to be quieter.
If I start to get worried about the probability of the X5000 X4 going into production, I'll make sure to buy an X2 before they disappear. Its a nice system. |

AOTL is the best option for US customers. They add a lot of extras and are enthusiastic about the platform and I've read reports that their customer service is good too.

The A1222 is still in limbo. Announced, but not produced. Trevor says maybe this year.

So, would you recommend buying an X5000 or trying to find something used? (it won't be a primary computer...something fun to play with) |

I don't own an AmigaOne system, so I can't offer any sort of informed advice. Someone who does will chime in shortly, I'm sure.

I run Amiga on Linux via FS-UAE.

As far as we know, the boards are produced… just waiting for drivers in the warehouse. |

In my point of view X5000 is too expensive with all the Amiga NG limitations, so I´m waiting for the A1222. However, if X5000 price is of no issue for you, it is without doubt the best OS4 system available right now.
AmigaOS4 works also under WinUAE, you may try it yourself (note WinUAE is sloooow in comparison to real AmigaOne hardware). |

I don't think speed is an issue here, as even this ten year old laptop could almost be comparable to the real thing, since WinUAE isn't emulating an AmigaOne but rather an Amiga with a ~200Mhz PPC expansion card. |
CPU speed is based on emulation speed, not performance of the original hardware. Emulated CPU is fast enough for basic work (cca 300 MHz G3 on my Core i3-5005U laptop in integer tasks), but GFX is slow and filedisk I/O and network even more sloooow.

QEMU doing a Sam 460 and now you're talking. |
Not working (yet) on my setup. However, CPU speed would be similar to WinUAE as both use QEMU PPC CPU core. |
