Here's another trouble I have, which is continued from update #3:

Formatcdrw can't see that I have any cd drive. The GUI window pops up, but the list at the left is blank, as are device and unit. The name empty is in the name textfield, but every button is ghosted. There are no sample tooltypes in the icon, and I can't pass any command line parameters, so there's no way to tell it what device and unit to look at. Presumably, it is supposed to poll them all and get a list of CD or DVD drives. However, nothing shows up.

It was like this in update #3 too, and it works no better for me in update #4. I have a microA1, matsushita cdrw/dvdrw/dvdram drive as primary master on the internal via device (a1ide.device) and no sil controller. My HD is primary slave, if that matters. I can mount and read iso formatted cds/cdrws and write to cdrws using makecd with no problem. It is only formatcdrw that won't work. Thanks for any help!

@mr_homm

That happened to me too, I fixed it by using the Nero disk erase tool. Looks like FormatCDRW is not smart enough to be able to format CDs that have non-Amiga data in them.

If i type "date" in a shell, i get

Quote:
17 08:51:50 2006

which could be a bug, because i don't see what month is, do you?

quake2/W3D related pb here on A1G4@800 with 512Mb RAM and ATI radeon 7500.

in full screen minigl w/o rlu, the running demo freezes the system after a few seconds and a warm boot leads to a black screen (but a cold boot brings the system back).

played with the stack (up to 5'000'000 default is 1'200'000), open warpview before, added interrupt=yes and softsprite=yes to radeon icon ttoltypes, uses the warpos version for classic amiga(ppc), removed avenger and voodoo libs in W3D/HW...
nothing helps, it freezes in hardware acceleration mode !

the window mode whatever mode is selected gives a totally green window.
alephone is also giving a green window (in full screen and window mode) but at least I could see the players.

GLtron and matrix screenblanker are working so I guess it is quake2 fault.

Has anyone noticed that BenchTrash is missing from update 4?

Don't know if its because I Installed over present OS but I found BenchTrash in Tools/

If icons obscure other icons the Window-Clean up by . . may have to be used.
Compare .info files through a DirUtil with the WB Directory in question!

Carried out a clean install of update 4 on a new drive with no problems! However, ImageFX 4 Studio no longer installs.
During installation, the message 'Unable to locate source file/drawer 'RAM: Browser info in line 1717'' comes up and aborts the process.
I've checked the CD for damage - its OK !! Also refitted the original disk with update 3, and all goes well!!

EDIT: It will work on same partition, but try from another one..

Thanks everyone's help on the sound issues. Will try out your suggestions over the weekend and post the results.

USB Flash Issues- lockups?

Second. Here i have the very same problem, drag and drop some files to the USB
masstorage and it sooner or later locks up the system. Copying from shell works,
though, but getting incredible SLOW after some time (i.e. a text file of
2 bytes in size takes 2-3 seconds)

why dosn't CD playback just work anyway? eh eh?

Sound cards have to be initialized and set up before they do anything at all. That's why something needs to trigger the driver. That can be any AHI-using program or Mixer.

I don't know why people have low-volume issues. If all went well, the CMI driver that was put on the update 4 CD is the same as on OS4depot (can anyone check that please)? Perhaps the update 4 CD installs a different ahi.prefs in envarc:sys?

Up till update 4 when I type commands in the "execute command" window brought up by the Workbench menu, the previous commands were remebered. Now it's gone back to Os3.5 behaviour and the previous commands are forgotten. If there's an option to reenable this feautue I can't find it.

This still works in Update 4 (on my system, at least). It works on Update 3, Update 4 and the latest beta.

Do you have the file SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys/AsyncWB.history? It contains the text of all the previous commands.

@mr_homm

CDFormat will only show those devices that are in the Devs:DOSDrivers directory. If you move CDRW, DVD-RW and DVD+RW from Sys:Storage/DOSDrivers into SYS:Devs/DOSDrivers and edit the device and unit numbers in each icon, they should appear in CDFormat's list.

That's because you are running SDK's Linux "date". Try "which date" and you'll see.
If you type "C:Date", it will work as you expect. The problem is that C: is the lowest priority in the Path, so any other version of "date" will be found first.

Why in UBoot prefs ("IDE ports" tab) BestPIO isn't selectable? This was even in update3.

It also might be wise to report which audio connectors one is using (front/back)

Probably for safety reasons, discussed here in a thread last year.
Example: You have 100MB free on partition with the trashcan. You drag a 200MB
file from another partition -into- that trashcan. Since you would essentially
be attempting a "copy" of 200MB file into 100MB of free space, this would not work.

Umm, maybe someone threw it away??

Just joking with you, you're doing a great job of organizing these issues.
