Is it possilbe to run OS4 on a PegasOS board natively? I know it wouldn't be legal due to the licensing, but I've heard rumors that it can be done. The thought of running AOS4 under emulation with MorphOS doesn't sound all that great.

@ferrels

If you write secondary boot loaded that supports Open firmware, write Ethernet driver, make the needed changes for PCI and AGP sub system so it supports chips used on the peg 2, make a new drivers for USB & PS/2 and ATA HD controller, butt maybe get around some of this problems by adding external cards in the PCI slot.

Generally speaking this thing needs to be ported by some one whit experience.

Aparently OS4 have been made to work on the Pegasos I board by
some OS4-developer. Was it Adam?

But nothing is official.

@ironfist

I read that someone flashed their Aone BIOS with a Peg1 BIOS and was able to run MorphOS. I tink it was on the original A1 dev list that I read this. I did mention it on one of the forums once before, and Rose went off on one about invalidating your warranty.
Of course we know now that if you do screw your BIOS reflashing it, your dealer should be able to supply a new one at a charge. In fact I had to get a new BIOS chip from Eyetech just to run OS4 in the first place as mine came locked anyway.

First say that some did, and then you ask hwo did? Looks like you simply don’t know,
I don’t believe rumour speeding is allowed on this site, butt take that up whit moderator.

Adam is one behind the PV right; he has worked on that PV for quite some time that’s all I know.

He didn't ask HOW they did it, he asked WHO did it.

95% of the talks about new HW, Eyetech's demise, Elbox (...) is rumor spreading.
Even Ikir did in this thread: "Other hardware is coming as well, also hardware which isn't announce yet."
So what's your problem?

@polka.

Yes, but the hardware that Ikir mentioned is confirmed as coming by Hyperion's employees.
Mind you I don't see anything wrong with rumours or speculation, provided it isn't likely to be harmful.

Right. Do you also belive in Santa ?
Because, even if the Peg1 was based on the Articia, there are too many differences
between the two boards.

@NutsAboutAmiga

You would also need to write a robust subsystem to copy & parse the OF device tree.
Not an easy task, especially considering all the quirks the various OF implementation have
(have a look at the Linux code, there are even workarounds for bugs in the Pegasos OF).

The Powervixxen was already "confirmed as coming", well even confirmed as being produced. The Troika was also announced with "two production runs in 2005". And what do we have? Absolutely nothing, not even a single photograph of a prototype!
That said, the existence of either one of these boards is still a rumour to me unless they come up with some REAL information instead of all this fluff.
Referring to the Hyperion IRC session, something which is not even announced, but "confirmed as coming" sounds even more mystical to me than the PV and Amy. In the current situation, every sane company that at least has SOMETHING would step out and show it to us. Why? There is need to bring back faith to the scene that all of their waiting is not for nothing.

@ferrels

You cannot run OS4 on MorphOS under emulation, that's just a very common misconception. You can just run some OS4 software using OS4Emu, which is just a wrapper and only currently works with software that doesn't use newlib.

@Rob

I didn't see any confirmation that it's coming, I saw a confirmation that they are working with the suppliers. "It's coming" means that it's under production, anything can go wrong before that stage, as we've all seen before in this market, the Boxer was coming, the G4 cards were coming, AmiJoe was coming, the Escena AmigaOne was coming, etc.

How do you compare PegasosII with PV is beyond me, Pegasos has a G4 and as it is this can't surely be a serious proposition though as Pegasos may be also cheap is a much more powerfull machine... maybe you're comparing it to Efika with its target point of $100?

@pixie

Yes, but for whatever reasons, be them political, economical, or whatever, OS4 doesn't run on them currently, so they are out of the question. Why, doesn't matter for the user and it might be too late to port it to the Peg2, as it seems to be at the end of its life as a commercial product, although it CERTAINLY is better than any other hardware offering in this market, currently.

You're right. I wasn't comparing Peg2 with PV but i was only saying that PV is a cheap way to have OS4
