I keep dreaming about being able to return to an Amiga with decent modern hardware and modern OS. My poor A1200 sits on my desk staring accusingly at me as I work on a Mac. It hasn't been booted in months. Several PCs lay in pieces on the ground around me, victims of cannabalizing. It's a sad, sad picture. If only I had a new, affordable, powerful machine running AmigaOS4. Ahhh, it's a dream. Just in case this could be real, lemme think of a name... hmmmmm..... a dream?.... an Amiga?..... OF COURSE!!!!
Dreamiga!!
or maybe
DreAmiga!!
or
A-dream!!
I think I'll copyright those...

Kontron is not that expensive. I believe a 600 Euros (including baseboard) price is standard for kontron for 1K quantities. We need more RAM but it is a very good entry HW. |

| We have been working alot so that's why we haven't replied sooner.
Yes, this board is the same DHT used in their Set-top box a few years ago. We have purchased this reference design. The CPU is a 405GP running in 266 MHz but we will use the 405GPr in 400 MHz instead. U-boot is the latest 1.1.4.
The goal is a movie player running OS 4 in a small footprint and then sell this technology to clients in the media sector.
We will offer the board to end-users aswell.
And yes, Linux runs fine with UDMA on this board. 2.6.16 boots flawlessly and the network controller is the one embedded in the CPU - 10/100.
Keep the names coming! |

Thanks for this update. DvPlayer is very fast, it should fly even on a 400Mhz. _________________ ikir |

The goal is get a date with Gwen Stefani (What? She used to have super ska band! ) and then sell the rights to tabloids.
Maybe you should contact Gwen ^H^H^H^H Hyperion before setting such goal? :->

Could it do all FPS of HDTV? And what OS will run under the DvPlayer? Is there a port for Linux?_________________ OpenWindows Initiative. Port PS3 hardware to bananas. For free. Join today and receive expired $50 cupon from AI! |

That CPU will not be able to playback what they want. Not without a extra MPEG decoder chip anyway.
And yes, contacting Hyperion & Amiga Inc would be a GOOD move before setting this like these in motion

But good luck to you! You'll certainly will need it talking to Amiga Inc about licencing OS4
What will you do about the CPU not being fast enough for HD playback and even DVD for that matter? Special gfx card or what?

Once you get in touch with Hyperion to arrange all the paperwork, please let us know roughly how much you plan on selling these for. 400MHz is not lightning fast, but if it's just a couple hundred $$$, people will definitely be interested (heck, I might even buy one). Until you have approval though, I wouldn't spend too much time on the project. Amiga Inc does not seem too interested in OS4 these days, and I'd hate to see yet another small company put a lot of time into something, just to see it thrown back in their face. If you do get approval though, let people know!

How do you address the following things:
License form AI? Support by Hyperion. Supply of devices (device is sold out and dropped design AFAIK)? European ecology demands (RoHS and WEEE)?
The problem is *not* hardware (there is plenty ppc hardware out there, just think of Apple (okay running out of, but still), Genesi or TQ and many more). The main probs are the license, support and meeting all gouvernment criteria. If you do not have an answer to all those questions it is a nice gameplay to fiddle around with, but no viable option. _________________ My programs: via.bckrs.de MorphOS user since V0.4 (2001) |

Not anything Amiga in it or they'll be paying Amiga Inc money just for the name licence.
