- just use the Morphos drivers for the Efika board (some disassembly required )

No need to borrow any code, as ALL code and examples are supplied in a Unified Driver. Take the Linux one and get modifying.

@T_Power

Holy crud! A graphics card company not treating their hardware registers like they're crucial to national security?!? I'm sure that has to be in Revelations somewhere.

Well, seeing as this thread is back from the dead again, how about :
PowerVapor (may have to fight with ACK on this one)
Amy'09 (the '09 is just a model designation, of course )
AmiFantasy - because that's what it is, for anyone trying to get these boards in quantity.
Phoenix - you know, the whole rise from the ashes bit.

> AmigaOS 4 already ported to 405

There is a multicore version of Xilinx Virtex Pro with 4 PowerPC 405.
Can AmigaOS 4 support SMP / multicores?

>Price of 405

There is a "dirt cheap", succesful CPU/SOC based on PowerPC 405: Culturecom's V-Dragon.

They already sold several millions CPU in China (POS, e-book reader etc). The chip is supported by both IBM and HP.

Culturecom also plan to buy Transmeta's code morphing, but failed.

Perhaps the new AmigaOS 4 hardware will use multiple V-Dragon CPUs/SMP.

Hello all!

I would like to inform you all that our negotiations with Amiga Inc failed. It took about a month before they even answered our AmigaOS 4.0 license inquiry and when they did they were not interested.

They said it was too risky to work with a startup company - even though we have secured business angel investments. The investments cover both an initial production run and a highly skilled full-time programmer. We exchanged a few e-mails, trying to explain our situation and that our finances are as much in order as they can be for a startup company. They were not intested and the only explanation we got was that it was --too risky for them to work with small startups--.

We have decided that AmigaOS 4.0 is not worth all this trouble and we will use a customized Linux distribution for our PowerPC platform instead. Our current Linux system fits on a 32 MB solid-state IDE flashdrive and we will try to keep it that way.

Thank you very much for your interest in our platform, your support and all great names.

An absurd statement from AI, and I hope this is made up.

Besides, what risk do they have? Pay some minimum license application fee to guarantee the contract, AI decides how much that is. Company X goes and works on hardware. If they fail, AI still got paid some minimum for nothing. If hardware succeeds, they also get per unit royalties in addition to the minimum. AI can reserve the right to disapprove sale if it turns out to be crappy hardware. Surely there should be some standard in place so they don't come back and say no to everyone just to rip off X of his applcition fee, which could be tricky, perhaps get other intrested parties like Hyperion involved with the certification. Company X pays Hyperion's porting fees and any applicable license fees to them.

Really, what expense does AI incur? What risk do they take on? Other than potentially cashing checks, what do they even do related to OS4?

Do not hesitate one second and contact Max Tretene of Soft3 and ask him if some deal can be made.

I want to hope it's just a work of imagination, too.
In that case, it's hard to tell whether it wants to be something between playful and sarcastic or just pure trolling.

I suppose there is only so long you can keep a hoax going. I'm suprised he even came back.

Considering that their first post started with
Quote:
We are a small team working on a new platform for AmigaOS4.
and now they're ending with
Quote:
We have decided that AmigaOS 4.0 is not worth all this trouble and we will use a customized Linux distribution for our PowerPC platform instead.

Well it was never really very convincing anyway.

And how many times did DaveAE say this was a "hoax" and STILL people did not listen?

Another evidence á la AHT about Amiga Inc's fscked up licensing scheme.

For everyone's sake I really hope Troika, Adam and the Italians have been
granted a license since Troika -- to say the least -- is a startup company.

I wish Rickard R all the best in his venture. Startups and small companies
are the motor of any country. Multi-billion corporations don't do that much
for a country, really. They just wait for the right time to outsource everything.

Small companies tend to stay put.

Or to put it in another way - they are just as true as the other
guys claiming to work on new AmigaOS 4.0 hardware?
