I agree, in an ideal world.
But in the crazy world of Amiga we have a situation where if ACK and Troika had announced nothing AND Hyperion ignored the Open Peg II there would be NO new potential OS4 users at all. After all, if Hyperion had agreed to support the open Peg II in January we would all be able to by OS4 on (relatively) cheap, (relatively) fast reliable hardware by now. As well as building bridges between the two communities.
Rogue will come back and say 'No license' for Open Peg II - How many times! But as we now know this is a spurious argument because both ACK and Troika were in the 'Do now, worry about license later' catagory.
The best we can hope for is for ACK and Troika to carry on with their work and keep us updated.

As COBRA posted, read the transcript.
Adam's problem isn't the Articia, it's that he's trying to make a CPU module that works with both the Articia and the Tsi109. IIRC, Articia only uses the 601 bus, and Tsi109 uses the MPX bus. Tweaking his module for one made it work less efficiently on the other. _________________ Tony T.

I find this statement rather ammusing, giving the amount of times he has gone over his dead lines.
First announcing a demo, then cancelling in the last minute, claiming to post pictures, that will not come, etc, etc.
Who can blame people speculating IF there in fact is a working board, or if it is all just vapourware? I do speculate, and I believe there aren't any, nor will there be._________________

| Fransexy: Well, if he continues his quest for other markets he should post it on Slashdot, OSNews and the likes and maybe he makes like, 10 bucks. He could then buy those who maybe came to that "UPS Store" for his demo last weekend a cup of coffee or something..

| All the negativity going around is truly deserving to the individuals who have brought it on themselves.
I wonder if their is anyone professional left in Amigaland.

Well - maybe less but we haven't got any anyway. We would always keep on waiting and just looking in to see if it's 'out' yet. But the total lack of public progress on hardware is as damaging to potential new users as anything else._________________ Sam |

Because it confirms that OS 4.0 will never be for public use and that it will be for the only ones who bought the A1 and that the people who did not buy A1 before extinction is been punished and that it is exciting as not some boring happy ending story. That is why |

I particularly like this part because it shows that Adam is a sane person with a realistic view of the future:
Quote:
ackcontrols22: I'm not opposed to an x86 port. |
I am sure Adam knows that PPC-based custom hardware is the most realistic platform at the moment for getting a license for. That doesn't mean however, that it will always be like that or that hardware manufacturers do not see the merits of having OS4 on x86._________________ This signature is in the middle of a much needed facelift! |

| To be honest I don't think I will believe any new hardware is coming until I see it working in front of me.
Such a shame PowerPC was developed as it should have been by IBM and Motrorola/Freescale... we wuld be in a much betetr position around now.
Oh well...

I just have to say that Artica without the april fixes are not any good. Expensive board and buggy chipset that is the AmigaONE sound. But do you guys believe that any new amiga hardware will ever show up..
look at this list...
iWin Troika-NG the Valnut board ACK
maybe ACK can prove me wrong but don't think that any other of them will ever show anything real.
to bad guys! Genesi won this battle for showing the best hardware for Amiga Clones. Just make AOS4 work on the peg2.

But still some people (you included) are seemingly unable to draw any conclusion from it and keep insisting on unrealistic pipe dreams like upcoming Cell mainboard or a port to PS3 instead of agreeing on a realistic platform that could provide AmigaOs with at least a small chance or long term perspective._________________ This signature is in the middle of a much needed facelift! |

| I can just imagine the reaction of the usual knockers when/if pictures are published: -
"Look at the shadows! It's a Photoshop job!" "Why does he think that he can use xxx in such a location?" "Where is the yyy in that photo? It must be faked."

I can see two possible scenarios:
1. Adam just likes the attention and made this whole thing up, even getting Hyperion in on it too, supporting him by saying that they have a funtional CPU upgrade for their AmigaOne and everything.
2. Adam who used to say nothing about what was going on with his project(s) at all has now been forced to be more open about it due to the pressure from the community, which in turn has lead to disappointments in the community when Adam's announced estimates are not realized as expected.
Which one of the above would you say is more plausible? Please try to be real...
Some people in this community are really behaving like spoiled little brats sometimes. When they say nothing, people demand to know and claim that ANYTHING is better than not knowing and threaten to leave the Amiga community if they don't get more information. Trying to explain that perhaps it would be better to wait with announcements until they know things for sure instead of giving us estimates is futile. Now when people do get estimates of their progress, they whine about every missed estimated dates like it was their dad failing to keep his promise to take his son to a game of football or something.
There really is no need to proclaim doom or glory because of any missed estimates, just accept that some things are harder to predict and go on with your everyday life. If these projects come to frution, great. If not, what did we loose? _________________ Sammy Nordström, A.K.A. "Samface"
