So who were the mysterious unknown guest speakers?
What happened to ACK and Troika?

What new products were presented?

Any news?

Scott

@scabit

I assume that Carl Sassenrath was one of the guest speakers. Amy and Panda boards were shown again and we were told that Panda is at Hyperion already.

According to Solie, Adam had been uncontacable before the show and it seems that Bill Mcewen's son was hospitalised. Make of that what you will.

Well... pretty much everything that happened is covered on AmigaWeb.net

But it's no major news... no new hardware... well... except for the reborn Competition Pro joystick.

Did anyone manage to record the video feed. I only watched up intil the end of the AVD presentation. I would have liked to have seen the Clone A presentation.

@Rob

There was no Clone-A presentation. Jens talked about Competition Pro and some Catweasel. They did try out the Clone-A later though, not sure if that was shown over the cam or not. I went to bed when Carl had spoken.

Joachim Birging

@zerohero

I though Jens mentioned something about doing a Clone A presentation later with Oliver Achten. Maybe I got my wires crossed somewhere.

edit.

I missed Carl speaking and when I next looked they seemed to be setting up for the banquet so I went to bed. Did anyone watch after this point.

Yes. irc was full of people listening and/or watching until the end.
Carl is an extremely captivating speaker and obviously had content to match.
It was like trying to put a good book down...you could not.

Yeah, I was sitting there watching the whole thing with Carl, glued to the tube... and kept thinking, "Gee, these guys should do a weekly podcast akin to TWiT, but fully Amiga-oriented."

Hi all... I posted some comments about AmiWest, but this message board deleted them, because I'm a new member. I would think that there are other ways to handle the spam/abuse problem... but, I guess it has been a problem here, too bad.

I hope that perhaps later tonight I'll be able to recall the contents of the posting I made....

@tomazkid

Thanks. So my report is this:

Show was good. There were a number of vendors and a few speakers. Unfortunately, Bill E could not make it, as he had planned, but Jens S. was a good entertainer, and I did some tap dancing myself.

I was attending the show mainly to find new Amiga hardware, since mine is so out-of date. But, sorry... no new hardware was available. Makes me wonder what's going on.

I had many good chat sessions with many of the attendees. One of the main threads of conversation was this: if the PPC is such a big problem (as it appear it is), would it be possible to use cheap hardware for Amiga, like X86 motherboards?

Yes, I know, believe me, I know what that means. But, you can order a very good motherboard for x86 over the net for US$100. So, is there a way to take advantage of that amazing economy of scale to help the Amiga?

That was a subject of great debate and headscratching, and it is something to think about.

Would you be willing for that Frankenstein X86 CPU to bring Amiga back into the hands of millions of users? Yes, millions.

I can tell you that I think it is a good trade. I've got a basement of not-good-enough-for-XP boxes, and I would really like to see them run Amiga OS instead. That's my own situation, but think about the millions of businesses, homes, and schools that have exactly that same problem.

Anyway, good show. Good people. Glad it's still going strong.

-Carl

@Carl-S

Carl, the hardware situation is being addressed in short order by Hyperion.

We currently do not see any merit in adopting x86 hardware in view of the massive Linux style support issues and the fact that many OS components are unfortunately not endian agnostic.

We will arrange for suitable development hardware to be provided to you.

Please note that after 5 years of work (far too long because of inadequate funding) the initial "final version" of Amiga OS 4.0 is now around the corner (read: should be available before the end of the year).

In case you missed it, some information including the target markets of the current OS can be found here:

http://www.amigaos4.com/

You will recognise your original work on Exec which has been taken to entirely new level (apart from the simple fact that it is now mostly written in C).

Which board will be addressing this situation in a short order?
