I would love to read a full interview with the mysterious Elbox.

No you wouldn't. It would start out cordially enough, but by the third question, Elbox would be contacting the interviewer's editor to have the question, answer, and subsequent comments removed lest the Bineks come swooping down upon them with all the might of the Polish mafia, er, uh, legal system.
EDIT: This is obviously satire, but if anyone from Elbox should happen to read it, I'm sure I'll be hearing about it. So says history.Last edited by Trev on 28-Apr-2009 at 01:08 AM.

True, or maybe "The dragon died."

When it comes to Elbox stirring up things, I'm pretty sure it's going to be something either dead, rotten, or previously digested. _________________ Sam440ep-flex 733 MHz/1 GB RAM/Radeon 9250/AmigaOS4.1 Update 2 borked A1200/Blizzard1260+SCSI-IV/Z4+MediatorZIV/Deneb/Voodoo3/CatweaselMk3 more borked A1200/MBX1200z/Indivision A500/clockport/RRNet A600/A603 |

Maybe we all misunderstood Elbox. They actually meant the Coldfire project would drag on. _________________ "We live, we die, we laugh, we cry" |

That is where someone from Amigaworld staff step on scene and ask ElboX about Shark PPC, Dragon Coldfire, MPEG decoder drivers, the IDE drivers, Sirion drivers plans for this and next year. How meny Mediators they sell.... etc etc
One nice interview. there is only 6 interviews in futers of this site! Yet no interview - with Elbox, company with many affairs but still on amiga market and suppoting it! Strange for me. ...
|
Hmmmm - in the past I got the impression that its more likely to find people here who still think AInc deserves our faith despite all the bad things they did in the past than people who think Elbox deserves any support...
I never understood why.
Maybe its because they used a "dirty HW hack" on the Mediator - I remember many here were moaning about the way Elbox built the Mediator and that its not worth buying and the like.
Since then Elbox was badmouthed here.
On top came that the Shark boards had been announced, but never hit the market so far (lack of support by the OS4 team because of all this badmouthing?)
Nevertheless the Mediator works flawlessly in my A4000PPC since years. Its a good and reliable piece of hardware - no matter if with or without HW hacks. It works flawlessly and without it I wouldn't have a PCI busboard in my Miggy (that's all that counts for me), as the support for the one or two other solutions stopped a decade ago or so.
And I would immediately buy a SharkPPC for my original classic and happily replace my CSPPC with it, should it ever become available..._________________ Ciao

You must have done something wrong setting up your system - my Mediator, Voodoo4, 10/100mBit NIC and Terratec 512i digital soundcard (and recently a SpiderII USB 2.0) are working flawlessly together with my new Deneb (wich replaced the Spider) in my towered A4000PPC..._________________ Ciao

Hey, hey, hey.
Don't blame the OS4 team for the Shark not hitting the shelves. Elbox has (afaik) done NOTHING WHATSOEVER to promote support for the Shark in OS4.
I am also capable of claiming I have finished hardware that will be released as soon as the useless gits behind OS4 supports it, but without me actually HAVING said hardware and SENDING it to said gits, there's hardly a lot of reason to expect it anytime soon.
Just for reference: I do not have hardware And I would never call the OS4 team useless Last edited by olegil on 29-Apr-2009 at 10:10 AM.

You must somehow have gotten me wrong. I don't blame the OS4 team for the Shark not hitting the shelves.
All I wanted to say is that I noticed (from comments here in this very forum and from private mails) some "tensions" between Hyperion/OS4-Team and Elbox.
I never understood where these tensions came from, what they are about or why none of the parties tried to solve the issue (at least not that I knew).
I had the impression that one misunderstood the other or both misunderstood each other and that led to the tensions, which in turn resulted in a "bad cooperation" of the two, when there should have been close cooperation for the sake of the platform, the "market" and the customers.
I don't blame one or the other side - if at all, I blame both. But in the first place I blame the circumstances that led to this "mess"...
EDIT: It's more that I think it's a pity...Last edited by Dandy on 06-May-2009 at 08:10 AM.

Well, about a week ago, I did just that. I sent them a very polite e-mail asking them if they would entertain taking part in a question an answer session with the questions submitted to us. I also asked that if the contact e-mail address I used was incorrect, if they could please supply me with a more appropriate one.
The result of this is......
NO RESPONSE. NADA. ZIP. ZILCH.
They haven't bothered to respond to my enquiry._________________ Test sig |

Just buy one of those Sonnet Crescendo PPC Macintosh upgrade cards;then ALL you'll have to do is write the software drivers. If anyone can do this ,there are a lot of Amigans who'd pay $100 for those files! |

Of course, if the contact address you used was incorrect, they possibly won't have got your e-mail! _________________ Fred Booth ======================================== A500, A600, A1200 c/w Mediator and 030 AmigaOne and OS4.1 Mac LCII, G4 Powermac running OSX + Amigakit and MorphOS 3.0 Dell Mini 10 Netbook running IcAros and AmigaForever+Amikit+AmigaSys 2006 Macb |

I can't say that a week without reply means much here. Sometimes I have to resend mails about 4 times before getting a response from some *cough* people deemed as "major players" around here. There's a myriad of reasons why email sometimes gets answered and sometimes does not. I'd strongly consider at least one or two followups on this before giving up. Thanks for the proactive effort regardless of what becomes the result. In the case of Elbox, they do have an NDA which might require them contacting yet another party before making any public statement concerning agreeing to a Q & A session.

Here is an email I received: Hello
Hello,
I just saw your post in "The Dragon is stirring - at last!" thread where you wrote that you sent an email to our company. Unfortunately we did not received it.
Maybe you used the wrong address or your mail was stopped by the spam filter of our email provider?
Please send it once again . All our email addresses are listed at http://elbox.com/about_cu.html
Best regards,
Darek Smietana
So quite evidently SOMEBODY is there and follows the sites. But I am not the person who originally emailed Elbox. I do hope the Dragon can be awakened at a reasonable cost!!!

I haven't been to the Elbox site in a while, but the recent Spider talk made me take a look. I was surprised to see the Dragon back on their homepage (Updated June 2011).
IIRC it had disappeared last time I was there... Anything new happening? _________________ AmigaOne X1000 |
