Ubuntu is a Debian based distro so there is no great difference. Firefox 2 is available under Debian Unstable. Use apt-get install iceweasal or apt-get install firefox. Iceweasal is the Debian Firefox package.

However I have found it to be very unstable at the moment, it just disappears for no apparent reason (not killing the machine). I use Opera on my A1 Linux, it is rock solid and does mail amonst other things.
