I keep watching the news here on AmigaWorld carefully, and elsewhere on the net, to see when this trial case between Amiga Inc and Hyperion will stop..

Still, i can't help feeling a bit worried. Will both the low-end and the High-End Dual-Core PPC Amigas from ACK Software Control, in partnership with Amiga Inc, still be released as announced? Surely they can run Linux in the meantime, no matter whom wins the rights for AmigaOS 4?

Could Adam of ACK answer this one?

Sniff the vapour! I suspect that this will only happen once or if the AInc. and Hyperion legal woes are settled in AInc.'s in favour, due in great part I suspect because they will be dependent not only on AInc. issuing them a license for AOS4, but to help fund the project and the actual manufacturing of these boards.

I see. Most would of course think that these hardwares will never be out, but we have been surprised before with the least expected thing happening. We actually thought the same about AmigaOne, too, but it DID come out in the end..

I guess as always we will have to wait and see...

@All

But if this is all true, that these hardwares WILL be out, surely they can for now bundle them with the best PPC Linux to run on these hardwares. As for the Dual-Core 64-bit PPC High End Amiga-variant, a true native 64-bit SMP PPC Linux could run on this...

Of course, i want AmigaOS4 to be run on these hardwares...

This trial battle is really violating the whole community. They MUST see it...!

We can't allow this to continue, and these hardwares are too important to be ignored!

No.

Are there any more questions I can answer for you?

It would not be a good idea to release official Amiga hardware that can only run Linux, it will be very bad for PR at stage. If the hardware was realeased without OS4 and Amiga Inc lost the court case, would you want to be left with an expensive Linux only system?

Given Adam's track record I can't see him releasing hardware with or without Amiga In'c financial backing.

If I were you I'd take it for granted that the ACK boards won't appear, have your dissapointment now and don't let Amiga Inc and ACK string you along.

The reason why there is no ACK hardware is almost certainly a lack of money. ACK is just one person, so I don't think he can afford to take his designs into production all by himself. Letting the ACK boards run Linux won't change a thing about that.

No, they are not. There are plenty of other PPC based mainboards out there that could be used as an Amiga desktop system (playstation3, old Macs, IBM's reference boards, Acube's sam440ep board, ...). The ACK stuff would be nice to have, but if they don't show up we'll just have to use something else.

Kind regards,

Dennis

Are you of a mind that Amiga Inc. is playing games and isn't even trying to bring out new hardware? Or that this is just tactics for the lawsuit? Or that Amiga Inc./ACK are so bad at execution that they'll just blunder again?

I'm also somewhat skeptical that new hardware will happen, but it looks to me like Amiga Inc. is making an effort, even if their track record indicates a likelyhood of failure.

I mean, personally, I don't understand why Amiga would commit millions of $$ to the Kent Event center to further their game playing objectives. While this may not be the smartest way to spend advertising dollars, it does seem to indicate some degree of serious intent, wouldn't you agree?

And yet even Kent felt compelled to ask for the money early now, and so far they haven't gotten it.

Is it a contract Hakia would take over later for all we know? What products are there to promote? Was not Rich Woods informing Kent and the newspapers nearly inevitable? Given the articles from the independant eyes of reporters isn't it not at all surprising then as well that Kent would freak out from the articles (and rightfully so IMO) ask for the money early?

The baffling nature is what makes me think its worth thinking beyond Amiga and perhaps at the larger Pentti picture?

Well, thank you all very much for your thoughts I understand this might be something that might not be true. If so, then Amiga Inc has failed us greatly, and perhaps Hyperion is the only serious company. Maybe THEY should own the whole Amiga?

I am aware that Amiga Inc might be playing a nasty game. Why they might do, is beyond me..

I for certain am furious against Amiga Inc...

Yes, I can certainly understand you being skeptical of Amiga Inc. actually following through and delivering on their promise of payment. Especially if they loose this court case, then they may really have put the cart before the horse. (Wouldn't it be the ultimate irony for Hyperion to gain rights to the Amiga name. Then Amiga Inc. is stuck in a contract they don't want, advertising a name that is no longer exclusively theirs. Next step in this irony, Kent Event Center sues Amiga Inc. for breach.)

Quote:

What products are there to promote?

None today, but I think their intention was to have products before the Kent Event Center opens.

As you point out, this is premature until we know if Amiga will pay. But if they do produce the cash, I don't see any other way to interpret that than "serious intent".

I don't know much about Pentti, but he seems like the real deal and I'm sure he's applying a huge amount of pressure at Amiga Inc. to get things done. With this guy as Chairman, it's hard to believe Amiga Inc. is just pulling our chain. It's curious to me that he would even associate with Amiga Inc. given he bought the majority of the 2 largest banks in Finland and his dealings with multi-billionaire George Soros. What does a guy like that want with Amiga Inc. if not to pound on their heads until they turn the ship around and make money?

You start from an assumption that all his endeavors are meant, each, individually, to all be profitable at the same time with no other factors such as write-offs etc? Tachyon and Monrepos being involved in some of the paperwork we have seen from the case seem to indicate he has a much broader view of what yields success for the whole rather than necessarily for the individual parts. And is the profit in selling to us a small quantity of product, or selling the whole firm at a profit when the time is right? Or if its some sort of write-off to just keep it as such?

Think the opposite for a moment, how could so much time have transpired with the appearance of no progress with him in charge, if you are that sure of his intentions and business acumen?

There is no way to tell, we do not have enough info for true insight, but it is food for thought. My point is I think its a mistake to assume the goal is success without question, especially given the track record.

Both of which are no more and were on the verge of collapse in early '90s when we had depression/recession here in Finland. He managed to make quite a lot of money out of those deals which were seen as unlawful. The deals were supposed to make profit of 120million FIM (about 20 mill. EUR) but instead they got loss of 20-25million EUR. Who got the money is not known, because the money went to Swiss bank, where this things are keepen in secret.
