@ChrisH

We are trying to be consistent, that's about all I can say. We're not succeeding at it all the time, and sometimes we might even fail miserably, but at least we are trying. In this particular case, well, no idea...

The problem is the link to possibly pirated material.

I have direct confirmation from two of the authors involved with the project that their files are included in that image and that they did not give permission to distribute their software. Therefore, it is pirated software and you should react accordingly.

You may have better luck searching for G4 Mac Mini
on eBay (or some variation of that - it must be done
using Apple's nomenclature )

Did you ask if the ISO really works?

@rzookol
so much for Devs signing NDA's

I think it's bad enough that AInc and Hyperion aren't working together, but whent he grass roots begins to lose core values we should all be worried.

I asked also on an a well known italian Mac forum, if there are any MacOS X Software gurus, and experts in Macintosh security who could analyze this wannabe loader.iso and tell me if it causes any damage to macintoshes, or could cause any harm to your current Macintosh installations.

Can it work in Mac On Linux? Then I could set up a virtual partition and run it. He he, running OS4 on MOL on my A1. that's funny.

So, is it still downloadable, or the files banned from the internet?

I will have to agree. Note the following from the file SCSISPEED in the root of the ISO:

ScsiSpeed 4.4, OS4 version
Copyright © 1989-92 MKSoft Development
Copyright © 2003-04 Daniel J. Andrea II & Stéphane Guillard
Copyright © 2007 Andrea Vallinotto. $VER: ScsiSpeed 4.3 (31.12.2004)

While I can't necessarily say that this particular file is pirated (Stéphane and I both released our changes in source-code form, with no real restrictions on how it can be used), I definitely don't like MY name showing up like this amongst pirated material, and I'm pretty sure Stéphane wouldn't like it either.

Just browsing through the other files, I can see several that there is no way anyone has permission to do this with.

By the way, unless ALL links are removed from this thread, the file can still be easily found for download through at least one of them. That's how I found it.

And since I'm not going to contribute to pirating this, I'm deleting the original files now.

Besides, I'm too poor to even think about buying a Mac Mini to run this on. I just need to fix the cooked ATX connector on my A1 and I'm back up and running.

I'm also interested in who this Andrea Vallinotto is and why this is the first I've seen of any other work on SCSISpeed for OS4. This new version isn't not available on OS4 Depot, or on Aminet. This probably will be the one file I keep from this, as I'm curious if it really is an OS4 program.

@those cheering this

Would you have responded like this if this had been to run OS4 on Efika or Peg a few years back. So all the talk of needing to protect OS4 from piracy was in actually Hipocracy. This is what the final straw was to start the suit if you remember. Looks like those entrusted with OS4 could not be trusted after all.

@stew
That's a good question, but I think different times.

Today, right now, if someone released a 'patch' that allowed OS4 Classic to run on an Efika, or anything that was actually available (I'm not sure if Efikas are still sold, or not?), but did NOT make OS4 available itself....yes, I'd think it a good thing, for most people.

I can certainly see the other side, as Daniel and others have pointed out, as it is piracy if it's containing someone else's work, but with the entire future (and past?) of OS4 tied up in the courts and all the associated lunacy, it's easy to see how people's opinions might differ.

@wegster

It seems alot of people are fine with cutting AInc out. How about we cut Hyperion ect. out also and put up the OS4 iso? Are we ok with that also? I understand the frustration. If someone paid for the software as far as I am concerned what machine they run it on is their business.

I don't think this bodes well for Hyperion. I can not see them letting this happen if they thought they would win. Look like what Exxon did with the Venezualan refinery the government was stealing from them. Pump it full of sea water. If we are going to loose it you won't have it either.

A lot was said about AInc coupon scam stealing sales $$4 from Hyperion. Is it ok to steal income from AInc, or is this a one way steet? Don't get me wrong AInc. lost me when they did not pay Bolton and talked so bad about him. I just see alot of hypocrisy
on display whith this.

Edit to add:

I wonder if there is any conection to the "developers" vs. Hyperion law suit?

@all

it must be fate. I now have the fabled file, and what do you know... a friend has a mac mini G4 edition. late model. AND I brought my fancy camera to work (in the hope that the ice crystals from yesterdays hadn't thawned. *shakes fist at father winter for crapping up his photo* ). So I'll see what I can do in terms of proof and imagery.

Now you guys will have to help me out with interpreting the results since the only thing I know about aos is some of the tech behind it, what I've read here and how the workbench looked on my non-expanded a500.

NOTE: This will take a couple of days to complete since my days are booked and I cannot go to my pals house until later this week.

@AmigaMac

Sorry bout the mixup mate, the AmigaMac I was reffering to can be found over at eab.

AInc has NO income you could steal.

I, as a potential customer, have absolutely no intrest in legal proceedings or copyright infrigments, as long as I can buy the products I like or want.

As there are no products, there can not be any piracy. I don't see anything to pirate as moana can not be bought. So no loss to the devs who did it, because they are loosing the same money they choose to lose when they decide to not take the risk and sell it or release it themself!

As I see it, as the "professional market" is blown up by this lawsuit (for how long this can take, see the SCO-IBM Lawsuit as a reference, and there SCO didn't even show a proof of the copyright infrigment, they only CLAIMED there was one! ) the only chance to see something new as a hobbyist (in contrast to all those core developers, the community seems to consist of only these days) is, to not play by the rules.

That's as sad as it is.

If its not a hoax, why not make a donation-list for the devs who worked on the stuff included?

I doubt it could work. MacOnLinux provides MacOS drivers that make use of the native OS, it doesn't provide full emulation of the chipset.

You need a real MacMini to try that...

Okay, so it really needs a MacMini, my G3 PowerBook wouldn't work?

Talk about limiting the market.

Well to be honest we don't know if it works on MacMini or MacAnything for that matter.

And that's assuming it's for real and not a hoax.
