Ever heard of Personal Paint? PFM? Kara fonts? SBase? Cloanto also privided the first PNG datatype.
There are comments in the OS31 source code archive where CBM devs thanks Cloanto for code, on some printer stuff - Claonto has bern around for a mightly long time!
Cloanto also sponsored and hosted several UAE developer meatups, provided hardware for emulator devs, and even today provide the signing of the WinUAE installer.
Let’s turn this around - what good did Ben Hermans ever do?
Or for that matter Trevor? Last edited by kolla on 06-May-2023 at 02:32 PM. Last edited by kolla on 06-May-2023 at 02:31 PM. Last edited by kolla on 06-May-2023 at 02:29 PM.

And as you undoubtedly know, there is also Commodore IP involved here and more. I seriously think that trying to reduce this to merely Mike/Ben is silly.

I can't recall any meaningful contribution to Amiga of this "developer" . Cloanto is only known for their emulator stuff. |
They created a few applications in the 90's, the most notable being Personal Paint which was bundled with later A1200 retail packs.
They've sponsored a number of Amiga shows.
They've donated to AROS bounties such as the Kickstart replacement. |

It is really sad that people so quickly forget all the good both parties of this dispute did for Amiga. |

There seems to be some thrust about s/w releases in regards to how achievements are defined.
I believe you raised extremely important points regarding those intangibles regarding support for others, donations, sponsorships, etc.
Clearly through licensing deals that are always listed on the twitter for Amiga Corporation
Through these deals the name has reached outside of our relatively small community. Surely this should be considered.
Not to mention the fact that the ability to work with others has to count for something. How many times does Sean Donohue have to thank Stephen Jones, Eugene Van Os, Paolo Besser, David Pleasance, AND Cloanto before people understand the value of those not only willing but also ABLE to co-operate to meet a common goal?

I think a few of the names I mentioned might object to being called relics, as they are extremely active in the community.
Nevertheless, this thread still currently on the front page of AW should explain the common goal achieved: Does anyone knows who really have the Commodore brand today?
If this is TL;DR then you can get a summary here: THIS IS A LEGITIMATE COMMODORE KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN! AND ITS BEEN REINSTATED BY KICKSTARTER!!!
The comment section as always contains details and more names involved that I omitted.
There IS an Amiga connection to all of these people, so I beg you not to claim this is about Commodore only and therefore irrelevant.

Fair enough, but you can simply google ex. "Paolo Besser Amiga" to understand although this effort was to assist Sean, these people have Amiga accomplishments as well. You might also consider that Sean's acquisition of CUSA's assets contained also inheriting a claim to a license for Amiga. This is irrelevant now obviously.
And this "event" the video speaks of actually started elsewhere with a desire expressed in public to buy Amiga. Methinks damage control is also a contribution, although it often goes unnoticed.
Take care old friend,

I have to say you been a bit mean to these people and organisation, yes some have likly caused some issues with the legal drama but deep down I think there all Amiga fans.
Cooperation between the different camps, os4, morphos, aros, classic, fpga, and emulation markets would be nice, more products that could befit the whole Amiga market would be good idea too(Hollywood as an example supports all markets). Maybe an overall idea of what the goal for the Amiga market should be over say the next 10 years (apart from not dying out) would be good idea too.
But even if cooperation doesn’t happen, any product or support for each of the camps helps the market, look how many Amiga magazine there are now, the Amiga shows are getting bigger and all camps are welcome to show off there products.
So it great to see the retro side of the Amiga seem pretty healthy, but I do worry that it is a lot of nostalgia and people who just remember the Amiga are left, not a lot of new blood is coming in and I could see the Amiga market dying out in another 20years or so just because fewer and fewer people who remember the platform will be around and that will be a real crime. _________________ AmigaNG, YouTube, LeaveReality Studio |

Which apparently contains pirated code from Jörg Strohmeyer. But I guess that's irrelevant, given that Strohmeyer hasn't produced any products "worth mentioning" in the last few years? |

Now now....just because Jorg has threatened to sue Hyperion and Olaf numerous times lately based on their activities does -not- indicate there is a problem.

No, I never used it, though I once bought it because it was an easy and cheap way to get various "extras" on disc, like Deathbed Vigil which I previously only had on VHS.

Hyperion did not "give" me OS 3.2. Ben Hermans is Hyperion and he did not do anything, his only contribution is to at last "permit" 3.2 to happen, at least a decade later than it could have.

Thomas Richter, who is very much the reason 3.2 exists at all, was very vocal on the release of 3.1.4 that emulators were specifically not targeted, as that would conflict with existing agreements and licensing to Cloanto. Thomas Richter bailed out of the OS 3.2 project, and instead now just works for IComp, since there he at least gets paid.

Don't mind me. Just amending prior topic change to be more specific.
I left the "NOW ENDED" which was someone's intent and also appropriate.
note for those who don't know: Thread topic can only be changed by the original poster. Otherwise you can change the topic of individual posts -within- the thread. as has been done.

Ben?
"For many use cases, yes - AmigaOS is stuck in first half of 1990s, Linux/m68k is not"
your answer: Strong stuff, that copium. LOL!
You seem to take it too ![](https://amigaworld.net/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
You are seriously proposing to use AmigaOS (you could also mention the other amiga inspired platforms here) for real-world applications like banking. Please stop to take whatever you take now. It is harmful...
And 3.2 misses all that is needed today for a modern system. 4.X is certainly better there but expensive far from being modern in todays terms (I only need to mention security). If at all propably MorphOS is nearest to be a useable platform (thanks to a more uptodate webbrowser and other stuff) but I personally would use none of the platforms for most of the serious tasks Last edited by OlafS25 on 08-May-2023 at 01:44 PM. Been away from Amiga land for some time.
Hi geen_naam, just want to add this to your comments:
With this comment I do not want to create controversy and discussions of any kind. I just want to say that I personally know MB, and I can say about him that he is a really honest, generous and kind person. I believe that it is not possible to judge a person or his efforts only by a testimony, given in circumstances of which we, although spectators, know very little.
