I might have an old A1200 coming my way which I could pimp with a Warp 1260 or Vampire V1200 to experiment with 'High Res' Napalm 2-player! I'm not sure it's worth pushing my current machines considering it works stably playing Napalm in Low-Res on both.
Note: My setup is also great for Xtreme Racing (4 player; as only the original game works with null-modem and only the Data Disk version supports 4-player adapters) and Blitz Bombers (8-player)! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Success! Flicker issues under Emu68 are solved with Thomas Richter's RTG96 patched version (RTGMaster libraries). The 2-player serial link requires the following EmuControl tweaks
First slider = 2 Second slider = Half way at 63 works best And disable Fast Cache
Job done other than obviously NET_NODENAME = Player 1, NET_NODENR = 1 on one machine and the suffix 2 on the other, I made the faster machine (PiStorm32) Player 1.
Baud rate 14400 worked!
Obviously I set up a Picasso96 with 640x512 8-bit screen and RTGMaster.user on the Classic Amiga and installed RTGMaster.user on the PiStorm (and then the patch).
Additionally, the version included with CaffeineOS allows play without the CD and works with the 060 Amiga with the EmuControl code removed from the Napalm executable supplied (to stop "EmuControl not found" errors).
Enjoy Napalm in HiRes!
Edit: Some 'Network Consistency Failure' messages occur when selecting or clicking too much on the toolbar/unit build queuing selection. Multiple left mouse button inputs crashed the game i.e. pausing and unpausing the build queue! Beware! The massive tank rush was fine so maybe a bug or maybe could be overcome with further tweaking of the settings! I'm open to suggestions!
The game lasted 25 minutes. Last edited by BigD on 11-Jun-2023 at 08:34 PM. Last edited by BigD on 11-Jun-2023 at 06:36 PM.

...and I seem to require OS3.1 on the 060 system but that is also true for TFX and Alien Breed 3D 2 so maybe I've not configured OS3.9/3.5 correctly for these hardware pushing games!
The PiStorm32 is now rock solid playing the 2-player games with the EmuControl tweaks. The 060/50 is now keeping pace with the new settings.
Did the HiRes version always have a network consistency bug? What further setting tweaks should I try to lesson the frequency of this happening? Last edited by BigD on 11-Jun-2023 at 10:03 PM. Last edited by BigD on 11-Jun-2023 at 10:01 PM. Last edited by BigD on 11-Jun-2023 at 10:00 PM.

Loved that game, never played 2 player but good to see you can get it working.
The bastard tank is still I think my fav RTS super tank/weapon you could upgrade too.

It's quite a polished game other than the translation spellings! Also, the in-game chat/save game typing should have been double buffered as it's really hit and miss with typing being recognised or not!
I wonder how long it will take for my children to spot that it should be 'satellite' not sattelite! Or that unleashing the 'Plasmer Cannon' seems to be a copyrightable trade name of a death weapon rather than the technology itself!
From Amiga Format:

One of the odd, and slightly bad, things about Napalm is the poor spelling that's evident throughout the game.
On units like the "plasmer" it may not be important since it could be argued that it's a trade name for a type of unit, but things like "Spy Sattelite" aren't really forgivable and it really detracts from the polished touches that clickBOOM have obviously added. |

Do you mean the fix for the flicker on a PiStorm32? If so try the link below:
RTGP96 Napalm Flicker-Free RTGMaster Lib patch

I have managed to pretty much eliminate the network consistency errors now (which is good because there is a nasty bug involving right clicking for unit production queuing causing a crash if wrongly timed during the process of recovery from these consistency errors)!
The regular 060 seems better for 'Master' (Humans) under WB 3.1 with PiStorm32 under Caffeine the 'Slave' (Robots) with all the RTG patches etc and settings 1, 31, 8 and 500 in the EmuControls.
It's like black magic to get this to work stably! Last edited by BigD on 16-Jan-2024 at 02:18 PM.

No, both are running under P96 RTG modes now! I don't think the 060/50 Amiga would have been able to keep up pace with the PiStorm32 A1200 without it! Speed is in short supply with these late 90s games! _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." John Lasseter, Co-Founder of Pixar Animation Studios |
