Yea, me too... But I think someone used it as a knee pad or something.. |
It's an epidemic !

The OS4 box was already empty and flattened though, and the manual and CD was loose in the package in a plastic bag, so I have to "assemble" my OS4.1 box myself when I get home. That way I will have a perfect OS4.1 box anyway no matter how many sat on the package |
Now that is a nice way to send it. You can fold up your own box. Who sent yours? My box has a rip in the top right corner of the face where you close the top flap.
Was your CD inside of the manual? Mine was and I think this kept it from being broken. A friend sent me music CDs from Egypt in similar packaging. The package was flat when it arrived and the CDs were cracked. Workers must like to sit on bubble wrap.
Honestly though, my OS4.1 package had three layers of bubble wrap. One would think that there would not be any damage inside._________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

Mine was shipped from Vesalia in Germany, and the cd was inside the manual in a plastic bag, with the unfolded box along side that bag in a brown sturdy cardboard box. Having to fold your own box is the best way to get the package unharmed I think.

I noticed 2 small things that made me really happy.
The mountable RAD: drive is recoveralbe again and RESRAD is gone I've got my 32MB RAD: drive back for downloading and compiling.
The Cycle gadgets in GadTools GUIs now have dropdowns like they did on OS3 systems (Accomplished with a WBStartup commodity in OS3 I believe).
I copied my OS4 theme to OS 4.1 because I didn't like the tiny hit box for the Window close gadget with the OS 4.1 dragbars. It works fine and I don't really need round corners. The transparency is nice once you get used to it. Most of my initial OS 4.1 problems were solved by copying prefs files etc. from OS4 to my OS4.1 install. It might have been easier to install over my OS4 instead of doing a clean install to an empty partition.

No matter the carrier and how many layers of bubble wraps there are, the problem is that the box is a bit on the weak side - yes, mine was squeezed as well
Suggestion to dealers for the next shipments: either send it flattened (see Deniil715's post) or stuff the box with folded bubble wraps or something like that.

Several have mentioned this plastic bag. My CD was inside of a sealed paper sleve which had a circular clear plastic window in front. This sleve was inside of the manual. The manual was inside of the folded and closed OS4.1 box.

Yes, I also think shipping the outer OS4.1 box unfolded and flat is the best way of preventing damage._________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

I am leaving mine as 4.1 just to see if I will get an affection for it. So far I have not experienced any trouble with the close gadgets. The round corners look strange to me, but I am going to leave it as is and decide later.

I sure thought about doing the upgrade because it was easier and if there is a problem you can clear off the drive later and do a clean install. But with all the trouble I had trying to make 4.1 boot off that SIL3512 : I opted for a clean install off the SIL0680 to fend off any more clashes.
You may have read earlier that my backup drive was not being recognized after my 4.1 install was booted. Well, I've solved that problem. Ahem, loose cabling on the drive. With all the switching around I was doing between the sata gear and pata gear something was bound to be overlooked. Now I am copying over prefs files also._________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

Seems to be the norm here except for those fortunate enough to receive their product box unfolded and flat. I hope you were able to pop yours out well enough._________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

The funny thing is, with OS 4.0 for PowerUP Amigas, people were complaining about how the boxes were unassembled, and the usual side-line critics were muttering how unprofessional that was. I guess that no-one realized just how fortunate they were.

My AmigaOS 4.1 CD arrived today while I was at work. Oh yes ... squashed box as others said, but no harm done.
Proceeding with clean install. See you on the other side.

| cough splutter!
Now that you have got past the matter of squashed boxes, has anyone experienced the issues I raised back a page in post 153? The USB flash card babble is the bit that's got me bothered.

AmigaOS 4.1 lives on my machine now. Posting from it now using whatever version of OWB is included.
Too early for full comments. I'm using the default OS 4.1 look and feel at the moment.
So far

Unlike any previous version of AmigaOS4, you have a choice to either install to a blank drive for setting up a new computer, or you can now upgrade a previous version of AmigaOS4 |

I would have understood why my box came flat and been happy to fold it. I am surprised to hear that there were several other squashed packages. All the CD were fine though and that is the main thing._________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

How many in this thread did an upgrade instead of the clean install?
I was seriously thinking about it after reading the above in the manual. How did yours turn out?_________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

Heh, ok, I haven't received my copy yet. Funny that all the beta testers I've talked to insist on a clean install. I have a lot of work to do with backups & re-arranging my HD to get ready for it. Maybe I'll do an update & a clean install at the same time & see how it goes. Last edited by sundown on 16-Sep-2008 at 07:04 AM.

I'm hoping Amigakit reads this thread & packs the next batch a little bit different.
Have you had any luck getting the installed 4.1 working? _________________ Hate tends to make you look stupid... |
