I was seriously thinking about it after reading the above in the manual. How did yours turn out? |
Actually it was sweet apart from the USB mass storage/babble issue. Nevertheless I decided to test how a new install would go. As I watched the kickstart stuff being loaded from CD I realised that the usb port had been set up so while the interim screen was displaying I inserted the SD flash card. Immediately I had our friend babble back again.
I tried another flash card once rebooted off the hard drive with the same result.

I'm hoping Amigakit reads this thread & packs the next batch a little bit different. |
AmgaiKit actually did a good job of packaging mine. The only difference I would make is to ship the OS4.1 box unfolded and flat.

Have you had any luck getting the installed 4.1 working? |
Oh yes, once I knew 4.1 would not boot off the SIL3512 I reinstalled my broken SIL0680 just for the fun of it and WALLA found out it was working again. The install went good after that.
Problems I am having now is that some of the prefs files copied over from 4.0 for various programs have quirks, ie. OpenURL is not working. I downloaded it again, but the auto install will not work so I manually installed it. OpenURL Prefs will not open either, says "Cannot open browser."_________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

If you need a substitute until that program is sorted:
Go back to my post about arexx, #153 on page 8, copy the bit from /*send url to web browser*/, save it as a file. I call it sendurl.rexx
All a program has to do is: rx sendurl url
In Prefs/env-archive create a file called vbro containing the full path to your preferred browser. This launches that browser should none be running. I have several things called v something in env-archive, vbro means variable for browser!
If one or more browsers are running it will find the first one appearing in the file. If OWB DODuo is running it won't find it until Joerg does an arexx port. NetSurf has no arexx port as yet. To find out what ports are about, in a shell enter: rx "say show('P')"

| I just got my copy. Canadian customs stung me with a $45 import duty. The down side to ordering from outside the country I guess. Now I'm just waiting until all my files are backed up to another drive.

| I got my copy today.
But I had to make manual installation (over existing 4.0) because the install CD froze everytime. I had to remove all USB related stuff from kicklayout afterwards to make this computer to boot. But it's working perfectly now !
Btw. My AOS4.1 box was flat too. Because I think it's cheaper to send it as a letter than a big box. Last edited by Tomppeli on 18-Sep-2008 at 12:36 AM. Last edited by Tomppeli on 18-Sep-2008 at 12:35 AM. Last edited by Tomppeli on 18-Sep-2008 at 12:25 AM.

Erm... ??? No, I didn't. I copied the whole kickstart dir and everything else to my existing 4.0 partition.

If the USB issue was mass storage I got round it by copying the OS4.0 final version of massstorage.usbfd from Devs/USB/fd to kickstart and got through installer bootup and install by ensuring no flash card was in the USB reader.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I am glad there are people like you who remember these things.
I am trying GoToURL now. I think it is working now because clicking a link tries to open AWeb3. I want IBrowse to open. I've got the script edited to point to IBrowse, but it keeps trying to open AWeb._________________ Moxee AmigaOne X1000 AmigaOne XE G4 I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong. |

They didn't get me yet.
Mine came from Amigakit by way of Royal Mail and Canada Post through Vancouver. Hand delivered by our regular postal carrier on September 15. I live in Edmonton, Alberta. Canada Post site said it stopped at Canada customs in Vancouver, so I'm surprised they didn't zing me.

There is no duty on this stuff so I'm guessing you were charged brokerage or GST. UPS has a habit of charging about $45 for their brokerage for example._________________ ExecSG Team Lead |

It will open a page on the currently open browser regardless but will go to ibrowse if no other browser is open provided you have remembered to put the path in vbro in env-archive.
