| Hi all,
as promised, I uploaded a new video showing a real-world session of BOH gaming: the direct link is http://www.bohthegame.com/data/game_session.wmv (the file size is about 129 MB).
Moreover, I added 4 new screenshots to the SCREENSHOTS page of the website.
(I'm posting this here as well because it could go unnoticed now that the news item is buried and its thread seemigly dead - I hope nobody minds.)

Looks nice, but the Field-of-Vision effect is quite nervous. It also feels uncomfortable that a wall makes the same visual impression than a tile out-of-sight. (simply back).
Two suggestions: Make the tiles fading out instead of hard switch to black when they get out of sight. Make a Wall-Tile visible, so you can distinguish between a wall and something out of sight.

Oh, well, imagine you are actually lost in a place like that with just a small flashlight... wouldn't you feel a bit nervous, would you? Jokes aside, that is part of the gameplay: you wander around and you can feel the tension created by the unknown. For completeness' sake, here is some information about how it all works (quoting myself): "The player normally has a sight field of 180° (90° to the left and 90° to the right); if he picks up a power-up called "360° visor", the sight field expands to 360°. However, he will only see what is covered by the light he is carrying - there are 3 types of light: faint light (90° cone), mid light (180°) and big light (360°). Range and hue also depend on the kind of light."

I see what you mean. ChrisH made the same observation here.

Not feasible, sorry. Not to mention that the effect could be impaired by frame skipping on less powerful machines.

That already happens: it is just that the default theme uses completely black graphics for walls to increase the sensation of claustrophobia (see again the linked thread and/or the last part of the video, when the "castle" theme is used and/or the preview screenshot of the same theme)

> I'm afraid this will never happen That's sad, especially that I read everything is done by CPU, so the code should be quite portable. Would be nice to have it on WinUAE and Amithlon, and maye a 68060 is fast engough? (not to forget the MOS and AROS people, who could run the 68k version too)

Yes, the code is written to be portable (100% C and that's one of the reasons why everything is done by the CPU), but that stuff (32-bit graphics, 24-bit interpolated rotation, 8-bit alphachannelled blits, 24-bit real-time raytracing/lighting, enemies AIs etc.) requires a lot of power.

I'd rather port the game directly to those platforms However, if sales go well, MacOS and Linux versions come first (BTW: with Wine the Windows version already runs perfectly on Linux).

| Hi again,
for those who can't bother or have problems downloading the videos, I have added a VIDEOS page to the website where videos can be seen in streaming.

| Hi all,
I'd like to inform you that I have added a FAQ page to BOH's website where I collected all the questions, observations and answers scattered in the various threads here and elsewhere. The page turned out to contain plenty of interesting information about the present and also the future. Thanks to all those who contributed!

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of this game to my doorstep. Would love to test it out for real. |
As you know, it has been shipped 4 days ago, but unfortunately it will take a while before it reaches your far land I am waiting for the first customers to get their packages myself, to hear their first impressions. Italian guys should be getting theirs today, according to the tracking service.

Also, Just to let you know, I am an Amiga OS4.1 user, and I also happen to have wndows shet box, and stil currently have a linux distro machine.
Maybe I try out this Linux whine emulaton, not that I dont believe you. :) |
Sure, feel free. BTW: the updated manual (see DOWNLOADS page of the website) explains how to install the game manually, which is needed to make it work under Linux + Wine (because, of course, Window's installer is useless on Linux).
Quote:
Either way, I severely hope more products come from you for the Amiga Platform, the amiga latform needs more people like yourself, who are willing to create a game for Amiga |
I would really love to code games for AOS 24 hours/day and I also have plenty of ideas (besides BOH, I mean), but unfortunately that would not earn me a living. However, if BOH sells well, more stuff from me can expected to come, unless other duties hamper me.
Thanks a lot, your support is much appreciated

Unfortunately, for now no demo is planned for the reasons discussed in the FAQ page of the website and also here on AW.net in this thread. Although there is no demo, I think the information I gave on the website and also in the various Amiga forums, the screenshots (BTW: in the last days I have added a few screenshots to the SCREENSHOTS page of the website), the videos and the user's manual should give a quite correct idea about the game. I understand those who would like to try a demo, but, for now, I can only ask them to please have a thorough look at what is already available and - of course - request clarifications about any doubts they may have.

| Hi everybody,
I would just like to ask whether anybody outside of Italy has received his copy of BOH (I am wondering because I can track the shipping only until the package leaves Italy - after that, you should be able to track it by passing the tracking number I gave you to your local postal service).
Thanks. saimo

Not received mine yet. Just tried the tracking number on the Royal Mail website and it says there is no information available yet. Which seems a little strange. They best not have lost it Hopefully it's just that their website is rubbish. _________________ "We live, we die, we laugh, we cry" |

Do not fear, look at what the website itself says here: Quote:
Track and Trace is a Royal Mail service that lets you check the status of a trackable item that you sent through the post. Please note that items sent from overseas to the UK cannot be tracked using the Royal Mail website. |
Considering that there has been Easter in between, maybe it is a bit too early to worry.

Yes sorry I didn't read the website properly. I'm at work and just thought I'd have a quick look. You're probably right about Easter causing a delay. Royal Mail lost a package sent to my girlfriend recently so maybe I'm more paranoid than usual!_________________ "We live, we die, we laugh, we cry" |

Oh, well, when it comes to postal services, I share a bit of that paranoia - and it shows, here

Arrived in the UK within less than a week. Nice to have a shrink-wrapped case, proper booklet etc.
Played the Windows version on Linux using Wine- works perfectly and is good fun.
Will hopefully get round to the Amiga version later today - looking forward to it.
Nice to see a quality product for the Amiga market.
@people:
please support Saimo - we could do with more of this sort of thing!
