@pavlor

Excellent! How does the speed compare from your last speed run?

@meet.mrnrg

Wohoo! UAE-JIT for OS4 (beta) seems to work fine! At least with one of my favoritest of games, Stunt Car Racer. Plays great. I notice that UAE_JIT does not support fakenative modes using P96? Or did I just pick a bad mode? Anyway, I'll continue to try it out!
Good work!

Donation time!

I can't test it all now myself, but did you already test it and it indeed like this, or you only hope that it will be like this ? Did for example Aladdin AGA works on peg2 smooth and fast without frameskip ? On my peg2 to make Aladdin works fast enough i should set frameskip to 1, or it just works slow. Also "Kid Chaos" wasn't very fast on peg2 without frame skip.

Did now they all works fast with jit ?

How it was without Jit ? Too slow ? Difference are really noticable ?

@kas1e

No, the difference in Stunt Car Racer is not too big, but I have now tried several dozen programs and with some, the speed increase is remarkable. Sysinfo is showing speed similar to a 25MHZ 68040 native CPU, almost 21 mips, 5.26 mflops. Oh, I have an 800Mhz Micro A1 fyi.
This is noticeable with programs such as Deluxe Music, which now updates the sreen and notes and keyboard far more smootly, games like Dungeon Master 2 are very smooth, and although it was playable before JIT, it is now somehow faster...its hard to define it.
Dpaint and Dopus5 just fly on it, of course.
Note, I renamed my uae program used by RuninUAE and put uae-jit in there, renamed to uae. Looks like RuninUAE already had the ppc disable line shown in an earlier post to prevent lockups in its .uaerc file, so nothing else is required. Just drop it in as a replacement and use RuninUAE and away you go.....

@scabit

What about AGA games ? Aladdin, SlamTilt, LionKing, KidChaos, SuperStardust, etc ? They mostly fine for peg2 even without jit, but intersting maybe they now more smooth and less cpu loading happens.

I use glUAE instead of Runinuae, and make all my config files from sratch manually to avoid all problems.

And get some numbers for comparison
eg.: adoom -timedemo demo3

Doom benchmark will show, how much faster is current JIT.

@Kas1e

Actualy, it's hard to test games since when JIT is enabled, there is a problem with keystrokes being repeated (the same goes with the joypad).

Only tried Aladdin and Banshee. Both set to no frameskip and they ran much better than before ie no sound skips and no visible slow downs. I'll be trying more after I complete reinstalling Debian on the peg2.

@K-L

had no input problems with those 2 games I've tried, controls were just fine.

Cool. For me Aladdin always jerky with sounds and a bit slow on peg2/1ghz if i use framskip=0, and only set it to 1 make it works more or less ok (but as frame is skipped, control wasn't very smooth).

If it now start to works faster with the same settings but just with enabling of jit, that interesting..

@kas1e

just a quick note here, my g4 is oced to 1267, dunno if a non oced one will run the games as smoothly, but from what I understand, that shouldn't be a problem, ie jit makes the cpu emulation now so much faster that there's enough time for the powerpc to emulate the rest at full speed without hickups.

I don't know vulture but for sure the device accessing result for me more faster too.. Next thing for test the jit speedup is try to play an mp3 or try a quake time demo ... But the fpu emulation is disabled plus the mmu too , means no rtg . It be needed wait a little bit for everything working ... Michael is fixing and improving ;)

Yes, I noticed this too when trying to input my name for high scores on games running with JIT enabled.
Lightwave works a lot faster, but nowhere near as fast as under Petunia when running it on OS4.
However, everything seems to play a little better. My son has been playing Defender of the Crown and maybe its just me, but the music sounds just like the classic Amigas.

@scabit

Repeating keystrokes could be a bigger problem than you think. Whoever has worked on E-UAE probably never thought it would be too fast. The reactions are interesting. All these years of work and anticipation and "Things seem to run a little faster, but nobody can really be sure.".

@thinkchip

Actually, it turns out I didn't have ALL of the JIT settings enabled. Sysinfo actually shows me 32 MIPS, 6.33 MFLops and 1.73 X as fast as a 25 MHz 68040.

And yes, now it IS noticeably faster with everything......

I confirmed the problem, but Rachy or someone else will have to be the one to fix it up.
