I was working in the amigaone_pci.c and amigaone_pcibios_after_init() areas. Couldn't get the read/write through the baseaddress vector to work correctly. I did find where it was stopping, though. |
amigaone_pcibios_after_init() is called too late. I'm using DECLARE_PCI_FIXUP_EARLY/HEADER, as you can see in the patch file. An "EARLY" function is called before the PCI resources are probed and a "HEADER" function is called just after the resources of a PCI device are allocated. The code just writes new base addresses during the "EARLY" phase, so that they are allocated automatically by Linux's PCI core. How did your code look to write to the base address register?

As you probably know, the original kernel code was not able to correctly set up the Sigmatel chip. Again, good on you! (I was trying to beat you to it, but didn't get there...) |
Thanks! There are still other problems to fix, so feel free to pick the next one and work on it!

I have not tried the official kernel source with A1 support. In fact, I can't try anything right now as my A1 has inexplicitly quit on me. (Won't boot, no video, verified good video card though, fans whir, disks go around, but no boot.) Aargh. Have to get that fixed first. |
Ouch! I hope you get it running again!

Okay. Is this very common? |
As olegil said it is just used to indicate support for dual head operation. Nvidia cards e.g. don't have a secondary PCI device for this.

Seems I lost things when upgrading from Etch to Lenny. |
Unfortunately a simple apt-get dist-upgrade isn't always the right way. Debian publishes an upgrade guide on wiki.debian.org, which explains how to correctly upgrade from Etch to Lenny.

Solved!
Until I read post #43 I didn't notice that the new kernel image had a new name. After changing the a1boot.conf to point to the new kernel image and re-booting sound now works fine!
Thanks for all your suggestions and thanks again Geri for the new kernel!

It should and could be fixed in the firmware (it's on my wishlist for a new A1 U-boot ). I'm not going to fix it for the 2.6.18 kernel, but I'm working on the PCI bus resource reallocation for newer kernels. |
I actually fixed it in U-Boot, I thought that this version was also released but there seems to have been a major CF with that; I don't know why later revisions of U-Boot didn't make it to the public.
I probably should do one final update of it, but I really cannot find the time right now._________________ Seriously, if you want to contact me do not bother sending me a PM here. Write me a mail |

Thanks! So it is, I checked it Unarc and it was so big I missed it.
Okay, all installed and working fine. I also have good news, The kernel is able to get past the USB devices attached to the card. I tested my printer with hub and sd card on old kernel, to verify it got stuck. Then installed and tested new kernel. It got past!
But, there is bad news also, as Linux still can't use the new USB ports. It seems to know a device is inserted, but always says it can't mount it.
Can Linux deal with an extra VIA USB? Or will only a different brand chipset work? |

AFAIK dual-head is supported by X.org with the Xinerama extension. But I miss the second TFT to try it out.

I had the same problem with an external USB2.0 harddisk recently. My Debian system mounted it, but my colleague's laptop with Fedora Linux simply refused to do so (even if the filesystem was okay). Does it work with the onboard USB? What says the kernel log?

Battery? |
First thing I thought of too. Unfortunately not. Got it to work by re-seating/wiggling the CPU card (also reseated cards and memory). Not all is well though, when I do a cold boot from power-off to -on it hangs until I press the reset button. No idea why, but the behavior is consistent. Now that I have it running I have not turned it off! It will soft reboot though, so I can play around with either AOS or Linux. |

Remindes me of the old days when I used two floppy drives and disks to boot into Workbench. All executables were compressed with Imploder and the disks were optimized with ReOrg to speed up booting.

The mass storage device disconnects from the USB2.0 port and is then registered as an USB1.1 device. There seem to be a lot of users who have this problem. A general suggestion is to remove the ehci_hcd driver, but you could just as well remove the uhci_hcd driver temporarily to check, if the disconnects still occur (rmmod uhci_hcd/ehci_hcd). Some users report problems with with VIA USB 2.0 cards and success with NEC USB2.0 cards. We would have to try out, if the problem is fixed in newer kernel versions. IIRC I had EHCI working (quick test to see, if DMA works now without patching) with newer kernels on my A1.

I don't think so. I have an x86 machine here, which has onboard VIA USB and a PCI USB card with a VIA chipset. |
So it can't mount drives on the PCI USB either? And is the onboard USB2 as well? |
Oh sorry, I get confused with all these old PCs here around me. That was a VIA USB1.1 PCI card in a AMDK6@200MHz PC. Please forget what I wrote.
