@vidarh

At least a quad core XCORE chip would be really cool !

@BigBentheAussie

The XCore chips are not really suitable to run an OS directly - they're designed to be "configurable silicon", i.e. a cheaper, more efficient alternative to FPGA or custom ASICs. You're far more likely to be able to virtualize the main CPU.

@vidarh
Where do they say 1 core? They show the picture for all three models with the quad on the forefront!

@Asymetrix
Indeed the next news they should release is how far the next AmigaOS is and what features of the AmigaOne X1000 is it ready to exploit.

@Linux Lovers
Get a linux x86 machine today. This thing like any real Amiga of the past, should only run AmigaOS->Next.

it is a real computer not a generic mobo.

Pity they're saying just a single core one, though

The single core can handle 8 realtime threads, thats a great start.

If you want more you can add more XCores using the Xorro slot

I am looking at the XMOS design tools. They appear to be Java based.
So now all we need is a Java port.

Oh....scary thought....run the bytecode on Xena!!
Ok, that would be rubbish....

still.... my head is still spinning with possibilities...
Just the fact that there will effectively be multiple CPUs in the X1000... AND NOT JUST a dual core PPC.

Oh my, I just said "NOT JUST a dual core PPC".

I feel a coming on.

Yes you should have left it to the mods to lock part 2 first. Now there will be overlap, causing confusion.

Locked now.

As said before, this thread split practice is mainly to save the layout, server, and staff time, as well as it makes it a bit easier to get an overview.

It clearly says Quote:
"Xena" XMOS XS1-L1 128 SDS
on the moatherboard specifications.

But... it also says that you can add more XCores via the Xorro slot

I think this new machine could be the wet dream of all console and computer emulation programmers. Imagine you could play all last gen console games on your new Amiga without all the issues like slowdowns and crashes. what do you guys think how many xmos processors are needed to rebuild a PS2 for example?

@Smurfen
Too exited while reading and I missed that

HOWEVER: they also say that specs are subject to change and that there will be different configurations.

So my guess is that those specs resemble the prototypes they have right now, but when the AmigaOne x1000 will ship there could be 2 or 3 models to choose from (as a matter of fact Trevor already said that the CPU will run way faster than 1.5Ghz so it will not be 1.6 either, probably 2.0Ghz).

True, but that seems a bit wasteful when somewhere between $8 and $12 depending on quantity could've given 3 more cores / 24 more realtime threads without filling the slot... Anyway, if it gets popular I'm sure they'll stuff more cores in future models.

It'd be great if they let the XCore IO lines get wired up to other things than "just" the Xorro slot, though. Audio in/out and a C64 style "user port" for some of the lines with fuse protection would be awesome for hobby use so you could easily connect hobby projects without having to mess with an interior expansion slot... But I guess we can't get everything... I'm sure someone will come up with a Xorro card with sufficient additional connections.

@asymetrix

Call me old fashioned, but Black and Yellow Boing Ball looks... well I can't write it here... it might break the TOS

But I think a hidden quote from X is many things says it nicely

Quote:
!-- We'll have a proper website before too long, when we've got more to tell you. No more yellow and black colour scheme either, if I have anything to do with it, I promise. That was one of the hints -- and believe me, by now I'm royally sick of it. ;^) --

But since it is such a great day for Amiga, I might as well just do this instead:

My washing machine doesn't support Linux. Needless to say, my next washing machine will be from a different company.

I just had an odd thought.....

Could you run Linux on Xena, simultaneously with OS4?

Xena has 64kB of memory. Yes, kilobyte. And no MMU.

And while the hardware multithreading is cool, it has a rather hard limit at 8 threads.

@EntilZha

Do A-Eon have plans to market the A-one X1000 with Linux and OS4 together? I think this would make sense until OS4 have a decent office and browser package. Maybe preinstalled as dualboot.

@maz77

It would be great marketing if they sold complete systems on TV shopping channels.

Thanks to Hyperion and the Amiga developer team we will have a great future !
