| Fantastic boot images, and agree completely with the scentiment.
But.... I don't recall the original amigas having a boot image custom made for each machine. Probably cus they were rom images and not so easy to change per rom - but even still not sure the A-eon will want to brand their hardware to a specific os but sure their close relationship to Hyperion would allow them a custom flashed bios for each machine type they may release.
Would be nice though, I too hate traditional bios text modes.

| @ Several people
----------------------- @Amiga_3k
Next to the any-key there could also be a single key labled control amiga - amiga
Oh... and an alt Left Amiga and an alt Right Amiga button, just in case the mouse stops working -----------------------
Yea! I love it. ROFL
------------------------ @Stril606 Are you serious? You think people will buy some 1200ish ¤ Box for running Linux, when you can run Linux on some run-o-the-mill x86 thingy for 200 quid with an around 10 times better experience? ------------------------
Yes. If they are not afraid to use their brain, and WANT to have some FUN.
------------------------ @Raffaele
And usually people use Apple Machines as cool design ornament for their pretty shops hall entrances, or in order to garnish with cool hardware their black huge office manager desktop tables...
------------------------
Right on. I wonder how Apple would have faired if their slogan was;
'Apple! Unix done right'
I mean, , , those ole Mac fans gotta feel abandoned. What is left for them? If I could contact everyone with a MacMini I would say to them,' Go buy AOS4.1, introduce yourself to it's way of operating, and if you think you might like it, then try a new AmigaOne, and welcome.'
----------------------- @Hans
Someone posted about this on an Ubuntu forum, and some of them are interested, or at least some of them think that the Xena chip and Xorro bus would be a cool to play with. --------------------------
Exactly. Fun with your brain. And, perhaps a most useful device at the end.

| A very lovely girl, former amiga user, just brought up a brought up a very good and very interesting question. She hoped they wouldnt deviate from the original design, too much.
So the question becomes, could an a1200 ishy case be an optional possibility?? ? _________________ C= Amiga addict ,,, (Oo) ⎛☮ໄ ﮑὠՀ Couldn't care less what other people think, seeing that there's concrete evidence they don't. |

If you read the A-Eon site carefully, you can expect a lot more to come (probably depending on the X1000 's success).
From the a-eon site: Quote:
The motherboard 'Nemo' is the name of the X1000 motherboard. As the A1000 launched the first era of the Amiga, the X1000 launches the new era with a high-end system for the early adopters
|
So, the early adopters buy the high-end system and make a lower-end system path available for others. I read and understood it as: Everything is possible, a lowerend A1200 style, a gameconsole, a settopbox, heck, even a laptop.

I see and agree, with 20 watts consumption anything is possible. DIY laptop will probably happen fast. With so many interested in this board, it might even almost be nearly cheap, hopefully, please?

Hesus, chill out Chris. What with this question marks? I never said that. I just said I would need Linux on any computer I buy because my work requires it. Later I highlighted that Linux can come handy when you'll get new users that would like to have a "helper" when software library on OS4 will lack needed tool.
That is all. Anyway, I'm out of X1000 threads because I cause fights that are not needed right now. I'll comment of X1000 again when we'll see benchmarks, specs and how Hyperion changed OS4 software.
Now, everyone, chill. It's Friday. Have some coffee. _________________ OpenWindows Initiative. Port PS3 hardware to bananas. For free. Join today and receive expired $50 cupon from AI! |

This may be one of the big selling points of the machine, believe it or not. Only 20W max power consumption on the CPU? That gives the possibility of a passive heatsink. CPU fans are a PITA and always prone to failure (hello A1 and PC users). Intel's C2D chips are 65W and need a fan.
It is possible to build an extremely quiet Amiga. The low power consumption lends itself very well to compact form-factors - A1200 style and possibly (way in the future when it makes financial sense) a portable/laptop design. It would also make a nice HTPC.
This is something that must be heavily exploited.

An Atom/ION draws about the same ammount. An ARM just laughs at that high power....
My Atom driven netbook (incl. display) runs at less than 10W when on battery and about 35 W when under full steam. My Mac mini (complete system, not cpu alone) runs at about 30W on average work. My Efika (with a bog standard 9250 gfx card) takes 14W. 20W ain't bad, but nothing extraordinary anymore. The days of P4 Prescotts are long gone (and others onthis thread are dreaming of a Power6 processor, ever looked to their power consumption...).

Why A-eon, Hyperion etc., are all so quiet? I mean, everyone is excited by the new upcoming amiga but there is no formal notification from the companies behind it in order to clarify certain points (see thread about A1X1000 technical and software questions).
I believe that the time is right because many news websites have the Amiga again at their front page after many many years.. _________________
