Hello everybody,

Would you be interested by a netbook/notebook running AmigaOS?

Let's define some specs so that we are all talking the same:

Hardware : something like the Sam440, with 1GB RAM, a 2.5" hard disk, a touch pad, USB slots...
Price : of course it would more expensive, let's say something like 800-900 euros.

Thanks

@elwood

I think you need an option for "I would like it, but not with those specs at that price"

Because I would be quite happy to have a netbook with Sam specs, but I would want it at around ¤400

Or an Amiga Laptop with higher specs (800Mhz minimum) for around ¤800

@BinoX

No, because I have enough of the people wanting ten million Mhz for 2 euros

If you don't want these specs/price, just say no.

The price of 400 euros is simply not realistic.

Thanks

@elwood

I would like a OS4 netbook at some point, so long as it supports wireless mobile broadband
which is an absolute must.

I'll hold off voting for now then. I'm neither a firm yes or no. If it was a large netbook (11 inch screen) or small laptop (14 inch screen) I may be interested. Just don't want anything TOO small.

@Akiko

That would be nice but you know drivers, documentation.... This is more difficult

@BinoX

I understand your thought. Anyway ideas are good. Keep them coming...

2 Euros, only for 10 Ghz? I do not know for you, but like many of the Amigans around here I would buy a 10THz, 256GBs Ram, quad triple ppc + x86 support + full smp + 64 bit (did I say 64, make it 128bit) + apps like photoshop and the like FREE of charge + HD 32.1 surround + quad SLI / Crossfire + custom amiga case + genuine amiga keyboard / mice + all the latest games avail + many innovations that I can't really think about, for around 0.50 euro cent including the license to run AOS + MOS.

EDIT:
Note, just to make clear my point: If all of us, though like many of you, AOS4.x (perhaps MOS too) + all the ppc machines from Sam and Efika until A1 / Peg I / II and A1X1000 wouldn't became a reality.

And of course I would buy a Laptop or netbook with AmigaOS and/or Mos!

Yes, I am interested in this kind of stuff. And I actually bet a

that I will run MorphOS on a ppc notebook before end of this year.

@elwood

It can be built for that price, with slim dvd-rw, 1600x1200 15" display, amplified speakers, and... 802.11b/g wifi.

However, the main question is battery life. How many cells would it take to get 3 to 4 hours of use. If it takes more than a dozen the price and weight would go up.

@elwood

Notebooks are far harder to built than a desktop-mobo as their are no predifined standards for cases, batteries and such.

Therefore both development and production costs would be far higher than with pre-assembled SAM.

If we assume number similar in the production run and similar margin of profit this would easiely add up to 1500Euro ....

The only sensible way is to ride it on somebody elses HW, and atm that restricts you to either the CherryPal or old Macs.

@Thread

Unless a notebook is seriously on the cards from someone in talks with Hyperion, I can safely say that we'd all like one for the right price and specs but for whatever reason there isn't one available and the only Amiga laptop I've ever seen was the Suzanne A600 project. The A600 should have been switched to a laptop project in my view!

Not at those specs.

AX1000 is perfect for me. I haven't been so excited about a computer since hearing about A1000. Now we can finally get beyond that old technology. Done thinking about that. The future is Bright. Even for an NG laptop.

Most of all, I'm trying to understand if it can be done.

@AlexC

But Sam hardware is low power consumption.
But of course, I don't know what is the impact on the battery life.

AmigaOS4 laptop, I'd probably buy it regardless of price and spec. They say a fool and his money are soon parted.. That fool is me!
