oxymoron?

it sums up most of your posts though, you do seem to like putting possibilities as facts, just keep a check on it as there are a lot of gullable people reading these rumours as facts.

@Derfs
err...I say "possibilities" and you say I state as "fact"? Maybe you should check the definition of "possibility" on the dictionary...

Edit:ok I'll save you the effort (from Wikipedia):

Possibility is the condition or fact of being possible. The Latin origins of the word hint at ability. Possibility also refers to something that "could happen", that is not precluded by the facts, but usually not probable. Impossible denotes that something literally cannot happen or be done.

@Oscar

"The FSB on the G5s were as high as 1.3GHz per processor."

Yes, but it was only FSB. (2x32bit, IIRC)
PA6T would seem to have 2x64bit @ 1Ghz directly to RAM chips. (no bottlenecking memory controllers needed, unlike on G5 systems)

btw. with PA6T 2Ghz would we "have to" consider the FSB to be 2Ghz?

anyway, pretty moot thing while big part of our legacy code would fit running inside PA6T L2 cache @ CPU clock RAM....

Again. Let's see.
/me better keep my hopes down.
(I would be happy with a lot more modest CPU "upgrade", and a price (only) below new G5 prices of the past.)

Update:
If we get the upgrade to dualcore 1,5Ghz+, we again get a lot of new possibilities of running X86 apps in emulation, for occasional need. (Perhaps WinXP would run in P3/600Mhz speeds.....?)

Slightly related, interesting PowerVM: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/software/virtualization/editions/lx86/index.html

Update2:
If more X1000 information and the CPU is released here:
http://www.power.org/events/designcon10
The AOS4 might get quite an attention! About the only commercially supported DESKTOP PowerPC OS and DESKTOP platform.
Again, I only wish.

what a rude way to say that you agree with me. i think you need to look at what oxymoron means next.

Aside from the fact that oxymoron such as "clear possibility", "definite possibility" and even concrete possibility are used in magazines articles all the time (and I don't see why can't I use them myself), you said I state things as "facts" while I always speak of "something that could happen and that is not precluded by known facts" = possibilities.

Or maybe saying that "this" or "that" is possible has become something stated as "indisputable fact" all of a sudden?

You seem to have a problem with positive predictions that concerns Hyperion (I've got hunch:I'm sure that if I search your past posts I will find a "couple" of negative predictions on your part! ).

More speculation...

It could be that whoever buys (bought) PASemi had to take care of PASemi responsibilities towards military.
I bet Apple is not making big wins for PA6T sales to military.
And I suppose military is reluctant on changing once chosen a SoC (and they want to keep their stealth planes on air).

So, perhaps Apple has made a deal with Freescale or someone else that enough of PASemi knowhow is tranferred to that chosen parner to take over military chip manufacturing with the responsibility (as an exhance of technology).

So I predict we'll see that PA6T is in production by someone else. (Freescale, if not then IBM, if not then AMCC)

Apple signed a two year agreement of making supply available as part of the purchase.

Not Freescale, otherwise there would be an Efika PAST!

This is exactly the reason A-eon/Hyperion said they didn't tell us, so as not to have a thousand Amiga forum posters bother them.

The whole point is that you can make inquiries without even inferring any sort of connection. Besides, they'd probably give the standard "what's an amoeba?" response.

Anyway, why do that when speculation is much more fun and we're a lazy bunch anyway.

Now that's a completely different issue.

The timing is still a bit odd as well. The puzzles were entertaining but normally this would follow with an official announcement and public information.

If this doesn't qualify as "offical announcement and public info" then I don't know what does!
http://a-eon.com/6.html

BTW, they already said they can't announce the CPU yet, due to factors out of their control. Other than that we seem to have a lot of info.

Official... as in press release and website. This is basically a brochure.

The news was pre-emptive for the community - I understand that.

Heh... Aussies - they can dish it but they can take it too.

It will be interesting to see if they provide any details. If nothing else, it would help explain some of the architectural uncertainties.

@thread
On their site (err...6.html) they say that the release will be on the 25th aniversary of Amiga but that we won't have to wait for this summer.
With such a statement I woudn't think we're talking about June (as it's the month Summer arrives) so it should be in May at most.
Also I don't think that the promised official web-site will be upped the day they release the X1000 so my guess is that withing 60 days (at most) it should be up.
Let's hope to get 4.1.1 before that happens
