AmigaOS can move forward while still retaining backwards compatibility. Apple did it with OS9/X |
yes, but at the price of adding a integrated virtual machine and a complete copy of the older operating system. |

Think memory sandboxes. Hopefully the penny will now drop.

Something is equally wrong if you'll trade completing goals with chasing the latest 'must have' features. By all means make a modern system yourself, but allow the people who have demonstrated their ability to drive an operating system forward to work on what they want and finish what they started.
Generally you find people who are the biggest dreamers are the ones that get the least done. I couldn't care less about some dream system if I'm never going to be able to run it, if people with big ideas are prepared to apply themselves then go for it, I'd definitely be supportive, but all I see is endless waffle and nothing gets done.
On the other hand one of the reasons AROS is going from strength to strength is partly because it is driven by an ethos of practicality, its a refreshing change to spend time with a community that realises the future is in their hands. Every small victory is celebrated, there's much less drama, topics of actual substance get discussed rather than arguing over nothing.
Of course all of the above won't change people's minds, don't mind me, carry on. |

subscribe fully with you; in another thread i said is better to achieve short term goals like merging back dr.schulz modifications to 64-bit aros and the ABI, then once the big stuff is gone people can start to talk about whats next.

Thank you saimon69.
The x86 ABI is the big one everyone should be waiting to celebrate as its integration is the point at which AROS will reach proper maturity. Really hope Fats can get some help with it to push it along a bit faster, though he's still working at it, I've been noticing some ABI activity on the developer mailing list recently.Last edited by HenryCase on 01-Apr-2010 at 11:56 PM.
