That was actually meant in a rather positive sense. It might be an actual concept that might work (IMHO, it actually does work).
Something that was bound to happen is that some people threat honest comments from people which are not OS4 users with lots of prejudice. This is a bit sad, too. You, for example, took my answers to you (which were mere answers to your questions) and used them to prove your prejudice about my initial post.
But I don't blame you; that's probably something which always will happen here after all the years of flamewars. I only wrote about the website not about OS4 or any other OS4-related product. Certainly I have a rather non-favorable opinion about them, too; but that's off-topic, isn't it? I didn't mentioned anything about that when I commented about the website as it was and is *completely* unrelated. So why force that into the discussion?
Anyway, if all the OS4 users and X1000 fans think the site is good then maybe it is working.
As we can see with this many posts here, it's a topic which can stir up quite some conversation. That is a good thing, no? So, how about some global poll? Might help to get a more diverse overview of the opinions and point the webmaster to specific things that need improvements. As someone wrote earlier in this very thread: OS4 users who don't like the site might rather not write anything at all. But they might vote.
Something like that: * The site is perfect as it is * It is good, but needs more content * It is good, but needs more pictures * The site is okay, but needs work in many categories * I would prefer entirely different and more simple and content-centric site etc.
regards, tokai
Btw, here is one of my posts on noprimateszone.org about its design breakage (there are probably more, just too lazy to find them): http://www.morphzone.org/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=6699&forum=14
As you can see I always put my opinions in a rather direct way. I don't have time to package everything in honey and milk to make it sound more digestible. Actually noprimateszone.org sucks so much that I entirely switched to amigaworld.net for my entertainment (as in having fun participating in a community). The topics on amigaworld.net are just a bit less MorphOS-centric, but shall that stop me from commenting on them? _________________ tokai.binaryriot.org binaryriot.de |

Nice speech. But I don't blame you, baiting to relieve bordeom is hard work right?

Sure, feel free to make it. I think your hypothetical choices are more productive than say, an "uber-crap" choice, or "they made it bad on purpose". You see you don't need to worry about "honey and milk" after all. It is rather easy to critique minus the extra BS because you don't like somebody._________________ Pegasos2 G3 running AOS 4.1 and MorphOS 2.0 Amikit user, tinkering with Icaros VM (AROS) EFIKA owner Amiga 1200 |

If I really want to kill some time I know better things to do, like watching strange Japanese television with lizards and cute girls. Initially I didn't intent to post so many posts here, but it is fun for a change, at least.

Dunno. How to make a global poll? Don't you have to be a moderator to do so?
At least that's how I remember it worked back then on noprimateszone.org before someone killed the poll module, because he didn't like my poll questions. _________________ tokai.binaryriot.org binaryriot.de |

Sorry I misunderstood you before, you mean a poll on the front page itself rather than tied to a thread. _Steve_ usually handles those. You could PM him. But I think those polls are usually supposed to be for something specific to AW.net, like "what country are you logging in from", or "should Alt Amiga OS show up on the main page", that sort of thing. Any reason why a poll tied to a thread would not work for you (just curious)?Last edited by fairlanefastback on 16-Apr-2010 at 07:51 PM.

Ok, ok... everyone just stop it now, please. I know it's Spring and everyone's thoughts are turning to fancies, new hardware, etc, etc. However, can we all just please play nice?
Thank you. That's a polite general warning to keep it nice, friendly and playful.
AND... honestly, if you are old enough to be an adult, intelligent enough to figure out C++ and mature enough to vote, you should equally be mature enough to have a discussion, some arm-slapping and happy funtimes withOUT being quite so offended. If you are indeed offended, then PM a mod with a reason just WHY you are hitting the AR button. Otherwise don't bite and just go on to the next topic, please?
We all appreciate it and, from me, may I wish you all a very happy Spring. :)

I appreciate and agree your response, however, could you please encourage your moderator friend Fairlanefastback to chill out for a little while? Thanks.

First, please, may I remind you that even though I live, now, in France, and before that in the UK, I was born and spent the first 38 years of my life in the USA.
The one glorious thing about America and Free Speech is just that. You say what you want to say (within reason) and, with any luck, the people see that you are simply stating YOUR opinion, sharing YOUR experiences and giving reign to YOUR own, unique and completely valid point of view.
Of course THEN we have to toss in this Internet option and spoil the broth.
We all come from diverse and varied backgrounds, culture, customs, we all have differing opinions upon football teams, political and religious/faith/atheist mind-sets and THAT'S before we even factor in language or computer flavour. What may be trolling to ME may be simple "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" to you. And visa-versa.
Why am I pointing out this obvious set of facts? Possibly to encourage you to understand that I am responsible and accountable for myself only. I take responsibility for MY actions, and the actions of my minor children but then... that's it. All I try to be is a calm voice trying to smooth the waves. If you do indeed have a problem with a member of staff, then please, bring it up with an admin, *not* a fellow moderator. OUR job, as moderators, is to keep things as comfortable as possible for everyone. At least, that's how I see it.
I am also pointing it out to encourage everyone to please NOT take obvious bait that is being placed in threads. Yes, we can all see it and it only speaks volumes of the people doing the baiting. Agreed? No, it shouldn't be paced there in the first place, but, as my Mother always said, "Rise above it." It only shows, in the end, just who is the better person._________________ ¤¤ Official Hyperion Zealot ¤¤

You really should change your nick to "Mussolini" you are exactly the type of fanboy I refer to. I will say tht the site has come a long way from the heavy handed approach to debates. It is much better now which is why many ppl outside the fanboys post. I remember getting banned on this site for criticizing Amiga Inc... hahah nows its a cool thing to do here. What a joke are you some kind of amnesiatic?
Did you read my comment about the site it has pros and cons i actually enjoy the novelty of the site, especially the os4 windows effects..

As usual, naysayers act "cool" but all I see is the usual "ouch! the guys I hate and I chose NOT to support are doing stuff!, I must act or they might just be successful, something my fragile mind would not stand!" kind of behavior.
How pathetic... Last edited by DAX on 17-Apr-2010 at 09:14 AM.

Just thought I'd add my two cents. Taste in web sites seems to be similar to taste in wallpaper or paint color. No way will two people agree. It isn't something you need to fight about. Personally I don't appreciate the slide-out menu. I'd prefer fixed icons. I really like the Amiga-like windows. Maybe they should have gone totally retro, but it's probably been done. I liked the old web site better. Also the web site is still pretty sparse on info. _________________ X5000 / microA1(OS4.1 FE U2) / CodeBench / Imagine / Blender Lightwave 2019 / Microsoft Visual C++ |
