What a refreshingly honest address there from Trevor D. I'm pleased and impressed.

@Thread

Some questions about the SAM460EX. From the picture it looks like there is an IDE connector, but it isn't mentioned in the specs. Does it have an IDE connector -- is it 40 or 44 pins? Is the SD reader accessible from the rear or is it inside the case (not accessible)?

Wow! That was a good article. And, for once, the guy knew what he was talking about.

Even better are a lot of the comments! It's amazing that there are still people who haven't touched an Amiga for nearly 20 years are still raving about AmigaOS and wishing the platform luck.

Well, Uboot already has support for PCI-E. If this card works with 3.3v there should be no problem. But to be 100% sure we should test it before reccomend its use.

We will buy one card and will do some tests as soon as possible and then we will report the results on ACube website.

It was great chatting with you, your brother + Ben at the show.

I hope you found a nice pub in the evening! £3 for a very small bottle of Carlsberg was a bit steep! Still I managed about 4 of them

@ChrisH

Would it be very wrong then to conclude that the first step in the process of getting more speed (on every kind of OS4.x supported hw) is well programmed preferable OS4.x native software?

Rogue, please ;) SHADES won ! he's got x86 and winUae. but seriously - Rogue don't answer THEM! unless you don't respect yr mental health.

i wonder if it's good to put a sticky topic on the frontpage directed at newbies or "perpetuum-whiners", containing various explanations concerning topics : "PPC IS OVERPRICED AND UNDERPOWERED. WHY DO YOU LOVE PPC ?", "PORT OS4 TO X86. THE ONLY FUTURE", "I DON'T LIKE YOU BECAUSE YOU SPEND ENORMOUS AMOUNTS OF CASH ON A HOBBY"

Watching your steps takes less energy and makes for a safer and more pleasant journey...

In other words, quit blaming others and assume the consequences of your own actions. Unless you're locked up in a cell or grounded by some illness, your income is entirely up to you.

My god. It's about an AFFORDABLE future platform. I didn't make the decision for it to be on expensive custom hardware, your waffling on about me hitting my foot on a stone and
all sorts of untrue metaphores.
It wasn't MY decision, it was more like I was walking this path called AMIGA and someone blew a big hole in that path FORCING me to turn back.

You're right if you mean I can't justify a computer over my family or other things expensive as hobbies. I have to put other things first.

I fail to see how a company CHOOSING an expensive custom harware platform increases the hobby adoption. It has nothing to do with being locked up in a cell, it's telling me that the future for AMIGA means I have to put up with saving to spend money on an EXPENSIVE PPC under resourced / devloped platform that only a few will ever buy.

Thank you for proving it's not possible to have a reasonable discussion with you . Maybe that would change if you calm down...

I hope you enjoy your OS3.x on WinUAE, but I gave up on OS3.x many years ago, as I found it gradually become totally unusable as a Windows replacement. If OS4 did not exist, I would not be using AmigaOS now.

It is possible Chris, you saying it is not changes and prooves nothing.

I did enjoy AMIGA OS9 and all other flavours before it. Pitty it is getting MORE UNAFFORDABLE to progress any further with the OS.

Sorry to say but i don't think you can counter any OS4 argument as for how good you know your WinUAE set-up, you are VERY confused about what OS4 can do, how it performs (read BigD comments above, he is not an OS4 user at the moment)and what it means.

I suggest you calm down and visit back down the line, you will see further progress and understand the scope of these efforts, what they are trying to accomplish and so on.

As I said (and many others too) the X1000 is a "project" that will bring AmigaOS on premium HW once again, but both Trevor Dickinson and Verisys hinted about this being the first, certainly not the last one.
It will help modernize Amiga and who knows, make it a viable platform for cheaper solutions down the line.

One step at time, don't be mad because we can't have it all right here right now, it doesn't work like that in tiny niche markets I'm afraid.

DAX, it's getting MORE expensive as time goes by. Not a good sign. There are less people as time goes by. There is less money for development, only 2 main programmers...does anyone see a pattern here?

Oh sure Rouge, that's real constructive.
Wasn't it you "whining" not having enough resources, time, more programmers to work on OS4, you can't work any quicker than you have been because of the lack of .
All this was said not long ago by Hyperion.

So what you're saying is, it's ok to whine when it's you speaking but not ok for me to express my concerns when the future of the OS I like gets more expensive to buy with every release. Good job! that made my day. Hope yours is better.

Please.

The main problem seems to be that x86 can't emulate PPC in decent speeds.

Apple seems to have managed that with their Rosetta, but Rosetta just translates G3 and G4 code into x86-code, it does not emulate a PPC cpu.

How long did it take WinUAE to manage to emulate an A500?

That did not happen overnight.

look this:

(Sales) That will cost you 12 gazillion pounds then.

(Hobbiest) But I can buy that on other hardware for 2!

(Sales) Well you should be saving for it. why don't you buy this sub par lowend machine instead for 6 gazillian.
