Taken from Amigans:
"In terms of info, the price will be "north of £1,500" and they couldn't/wouldn't tell us the make of the CPU."
Now i know why it's impossible to get the CPU name and type: someone has smoked it.
:)
Sorry, couldn't resist

Your're right. The system are working and that's impressive. I would like to know more info about graphic card / Xena, tho.

| I'm glad A-Eon were able to demo the machine as promised and hope they find an audience for this product. I'd really like some readout on the mood of the crowd following the announcement, if anyone was there and fancies giving us some atmospherics?
It's been known for a while that "won't have to wait until summer" was a guesstimate on the part of the web designer, which had since slipped. However, hearing a new target date as far away as Christmas is a bit disappointing.
Academic for me though. Sadly, if it's going to cost more than £1,500, my own AmigaOne X1000 dream has prob'ly come to an end.
I was predicting ¤1,400-¤1,500 (so about £1,200) for the machine, versus £700 for a complete Sam setup from AmigaKit.
Since I'm an entry level user, my plan to spend £500 extra on a high end option - when I wouldn't realistically be using the extra computing power - was already going to be a "more money than sense" kind of self-indulgence. But if it's a case of spending £800 extra, then that's too much of an extravagance for me at this point in my life.
I still want to see this succeed, and hopefully A-Eon's next project will be an attractive AmigaOne-branded machine for less than a grand.
In the meantime, once the dust settles from my move (next weekend!) I will be ordering a Sam. And trying to source some stickers for the case and keyboard. But at least I won't have to wait until Christmas eh _________________ My new blog |

we tried to be sneaky and find out what CPU was running in the X1000 (not that we'd leak the info ) by typing 'CPU' into the shell....
Came up with 'Some cool PPC that we're not going to mention just yet' or words to that effect... made us chuckle, nice touch A-Eon/Hyperion

I would not expect much on this front yet (Except USB 2.0 maybe). Once OS 4.1 u2 runs on the 2 new machines then the push will be on i'm sure.
I dont think that they selected a dual core cpu just for fun.

Cool. So we could see Sam440-flex models bundled with the Eyemotion card as an option in the future .

Maybe, but USB 2.0 was discussed months ago, and I expected more informations on X1000 project. It is good that they where able to show it running OS4, that give us more confidence about this project that we could give to past half hearted attempts.
I wanted to get some info on Xena and Xena's SDK, SMP approach and whatever technical details Hyperion could unearth.
Well, I guess we're going to hear more after some press release will be published.
BTW: how many people attended and where there any non-Amiga media coverage? _________________ OpenWindows Initiative. Port PS3 hardware to bananas. For free. Join today and receive expired $50 cupon from AI! |

Great effort guys, its a nice surprise to wake up to. I would suspect the price includes VAT (sales tax) so over seas people would get a bit of a small discount.
17.5% 1,500.00 is == 262.50 so you could expect to get that as a saving.
Good to sea both X1000 and SAM460 etc... The people behind the products clearly available and on photo is awesome.

Actually, if a given price includes 17.5% VAT, then that price is 117.5% of the no-VAT price, so you only get to take off roughly 15% (divide by 1.175). Still 223.40 VAT that overseas orders might not have to pay (if starting from 1500).
Then again, in Australia that price is significantly past the threshold for import duty and import tax liability (and thus importing it is a pain in the proverbial, trying to deal with bureaucracy); I suspect many other non-European countries have similar regulations.
