Hi all, I personally don't care much about Amiga Inc simply because the did nothing for the Amiga except turn it into some phone app for the nostalgic.

I noticed on a thread at Amiga.org That Amiga Inc has a site operating out of India.

http://www.amigadevindia.com

My reason for posting this is the fact that I thought Hyperion owns the Boing Ball Logo and Amiga Inc now called Amiga Development India have a stylized image of the Boing Ball in there logo.

Is my information correct do Hyperion in fact own not only the intellectual property of AmigaOS but also the boing ball?

Just thought it to be interesting. Any thoughts?

Cheers

@Fairdinkem

Hyperion has licensed Boing Ball logo, thus both companies can use it.

Latest news on the site: september 2006. For some reason, I don't expect anything from there

Yes, but AFAIK Hyperion has exclusivity to develop AmigaOS Classic and Next Gen for desktop systems. Therefore the AmigaOS, AmigaOne etc names and trademarks although licensed from AI effectively belong to Hyperion. Not sure whether this applies to the Boing Ball logo or not, but will check.

Yes. The Boing Ball is not exclusive licence (Amiga.Inc can still use it).

As far as I know, there's nothing preventing Amiga Inc from say releasing something called "Amiga 5" Using "OS" in the product title is so 90's anyway.

@Troels

Actually, most people I know remember it as "Workbench" AmigaOS only came about after the majority had left and the brand had been sold (many times).

@SpaceDruid

I always referred to it as Kickstart as I saw the Workbench as not more than a set of programs allowing me to do usefull stuff. Although I did start to change thinking that way after I got Workbench 2.1 for my Kickstart 2.0 Amiga 3000.

Same here. Left Amiga in 1992 (not for Windows-PCs though, I simply didn't have any interest in computers for a few years).

For me it was always "Workbench", and I still wondered, when I came back to all things Amigan back in 2006, why it was named "Amiga OS" later on. "Amiga OS" sounds so boring to me.

If I were Hyperion, I'd probably rename it back.

Amiga has such a rich tradition, why not playing its strengths in that..?

@Fairdinkem

They only have the name and logo but they don't realese software for Amiga computers, they aren't 100% Amiga only 1% the logo 0,5% and the name the other 0,5%.

That's correct but I think it would be fair to say that "Workbench" was never taken seriously by the masses (even though it was far more advanced in its day) so perhaps a change of name to AmigaOS is a good move. Of course, you can argue that "AmigaOS" is not taken seriously either but the difference is "Workbench" was once in a position to be taken seriously where as "AmigaOS", for all its strengths, has thus far not been presented with the same opportunity to appeal to the masses.

I prefer AmigaOS as a name. It's more descriptive.

AH.

@All

At that point in time when the brand was at its peak, none of my friends said AmigaOS.
A few said workbench and a few said Amiga DOS.

Most of my friends just simply called our belowed computer AmigaXXXX:
Amiga500, Amiga2000, Amiga3000, Amiga1200, Amiga4000, Amiga CD32 etc.

For them the OS was just a part of the complete user experience.

If I say AmigaOS today, all the former amiga users I know understands and recognises the brand.

What is the point to have a company called "Amiga something" and do Microsoft .net development?

@Fairdinkem

On the main page try this ... About ADI > Partners > Amiga, Inc.

Same if you choose About ADI > Overview > Partners > Amiga, Inc.

The results are the same. End of story.
