Hah, good videos. My Mac mini's about the same spec as your eMac (1.33MHz CPU though), so we're probably seeing the same performance.

I'm assuming you have 32MB of VRAM? If so, it helps to go into System Prefs > DisplayEngine and switch off double and triple display buffering, and also switch off "Enhanced Display" for each screenmode.

I found that sped up the interface a lot!

whoa. i mean, whoa. i love my SAM, and i much prefer the GUI on OS4 to morphOS, but.... i think the morphOS guys are going to have another licensee soon.

thanks for the videos, steve. youtube clips are what got me serious about getting an OS4 box. maybe they've done it again for MOS.

Should I buy it,do you think ?

Nice videos ,although the audio is not so good.Did you wear a mic or just have one somewhere in the room ?

@clusteruk

It is very difficult to get a stable picture of a CRT using a video camera.

CRT paints the picture with a moving electron stream whereas LCD pixels are turned on by addressing embedded transistors.

If you set CRT and video camera at same scan rate there will likely be a moving black bar that would look worse than the flickering in your current youtube offering.
Overall, good job.

@BigC

I'd say anything above 100$ for an EMac is a good reason to keep searching

Even an 1.5GHz MacMini should be available somewhat cheaper than 600$.

This is not just a great quick MorphOS demo, I think you are also doing a fantastic job by openly and honestly discussing the other sides of this somewhat too-close and tight-lipped community. It is so nice to hear such a genuine and respectful enthusiasm, you're a perfect real Amiga ambassador! One more reason to continue following AROS and MorphOS and OS4, this community needs more people like you. You should open a blog..

Back on topic, never saw MorphOS in action, thanks to your video guess it's time to retrieve from the darkness that little eMac collecting dust in the office (hopefully it's the 1,25Gb version)! Really impressed by its responsiveness..

Thanks,
Shufflepuck

@Kronos

My question was "tongue-in-cheek".

I am no longer shocked by people asking absolutely stupid sums for old computers;apparently some peoples' purchases just don't lose value because of age and obsolesence.

There was another eMac offered a few weeks ago for $50,but it wasn't the 1.25MHz model,only 700MHz.

I need to see exactly what I have in my shed-a fellow sold me 3 eMacs very cheaply as parts units a while back.The computers were literally torn apart to remove the hard drives "for security reasons";perhaps there are enough good parts to build one working unit.

Hopefully the current registration fee for MorphOS has resulted in lots of new licensees ,and hopefully it will not go back up.

Somewhere I read that - unfortunately - the reduced fee will not last forever, but it will stay so for while still and get announced early enough before it rises up again. But IMHO they just should keep that price (purchased myself a key at 150 and one at 111.11). I like the 111.11 - it is a fair and funny price.

Dunno, I'm far more shocked by people buying old computers at such prices ....

again ... if we had all Amiga talents working towards one common, superb OS goal. We might dominate the world. ... almost.

I bought my key for ¤150. I know it's a bit steep, but it's definitely worth it. I haven't regretted buying it once.

Clusteruk: great man. The videos show that morphos is the Amiga like system ano 2010 that is the most advanced.

Not that I have not know that from before.

On the other hand AROS is getting there in not to distant future.

Great!

That startbar/dock is really nice... what's it called?

Wonder if it works with MOS 1.4.5... or maybe I need to upgrade to 2.x

The dock application shown in the video and preconfigured via Papiosaur's "Ultimate Pack" is called Polynet NG

It works with MorphOS v1.4x but also, with the use of TTEngine supplied with 2.x it supports antialiased txt and also supports 2.x's transparency fx.

Heck - there was a 68k version at one time...though I never used it. :)

I prefer just working with the included ambient panel system myself actually.
