Are you building co-operation with AresOne & iMiga producers? How about Hyperion? Cloanto? Last edited by KimmoK on 11-Aug-2010 at 07:12 AM.

I would like to on all counts. I don't have anything to divulge at this time. _________________ Leo Nigro, CTO Commodore USA, LLC Opinions expressed are my own and not those of C= USA. Commodore/AMIGA "Beautiful, High-Performance, Home Computers for Creativity and Entertainment." |

Nice!
But I don´t like design of these CommodoreUSA computers - old C64 and A1000 on your table look much better. That is only question of personal taste... |

It's sooo much nicer in the flesh.
I've been using it as my main machine for the last couple of months....and let me say you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.
You're comparing it to two of the most beautiful and popular computers ever made, which is a little unfair.
We are making a C64 replica called the Commodore PC64. I would love to do an A1000 replica....perhaps like my former avatar. I think there's a chance of that some time in the future. Last edited by BigBentheAussie on 11-Aug-2010 at 08:00 AM.

What type of model ? What OS will be preinstalled ? And please give us a short description after the device has arrived. |
I have the Commodore Phoenix Basic, which I mentioned in another thread. It's a 2.93 Core 2 Duo. It comes with Ubuntu. Beautiful silver specimen as seen in video. It looks very space agey to me...like it just fell off a space ship or something. It is so much smaller in reality. It is only slightly larger than the C64. The keyboard placement really makes a lot of sense when you use it for a while. I found the touchpad incredibly useful while I was transferring from my old system as I didn't require a second mouse.

| Wow, there are more Amiga/Commodore (related) machines and software today then back in the days of the original Commodore Amiga at the height of their popularity...
Does Commodore USA plan to possibly support the development of, say, AROS, or any other Amiga(like) OS?

Hi. Why don't you talk with NATAMI crew? Maybe Commodore could produce new Amigas again? Commodore biggest mistake was their PC dedication with Medhi Ali which wanted to kill Amiga. In 1993 when Commodore decided to get rid of their PC division, their financial loss turned positive, but not enough for Commodore to live further than April 1994.
Anyway, good luck :) Commodore is never the same without Amiga dedication for sure! _________________ Regards, Michal, Amiga user since 1988 amitopia@gmail.com |

Personally, I would love to see Natami put on an ASIC which could then be placed into a really small device. However, they'll need to get it all working first. I can't make any promises in that regard on behalf of Commodore.
If Commodore wants to be a player in the PC industry again then it obviously needs to be x86 based and focused. Any other architecture will cater to too small a market to be worthwhile.
Ask yourself what Commodore would be doing now if they'd never died in the 90s...and you'll probably get the answer to all your questions. It'd likely be rather close to what Apple are doing.
The PC64 is a nod to the fans...but it isn't the end game. We're in it to win it.
I know at first this may seem delusional....but there are many exciting developments in store.

From Commodore USA's website. Quote:

I know a lot of people wont believe it until there is an official announcement from all parties. So let's just hang back until they get around to it OK.

I WANT A NATAMI OR A MINIMIG IN THE AMIGA FANTASY CASE !
Dont make the mistake to "only" support an x86 market, nice retro products need the Commodore name.
The retro market could be atleast a tiny revenue stream , as you would be one of the only players.
First of all Id like a replacement mobo for old C64 cases. Should be easy to make with todays tech.
Then Id like a replacement case with a new mobo updated to somewhat modern specs. Case being almost lookalike, but ofcourse better.
A new C64 8bit heavily updated but compatible with C64 - a new C64 for the demoscene !! Cooperate with makers of C-one maybe ? And integrate such stuff as 1541 ultimate II ..
Do a Commodore - Modern line and a Commodore - Retro line |

Thanks for your suggestions.
The PC64 will have a boot option that takes you to the C64 Ready screen practically as soon as the button is depressed. Probably even faster than the original. So you can get your classic gaming fix when you need it. That's about as retro as you can get.
Commodore is not about to build replacement parts for machines that are nearly 30 years old, regardless of how much we love them. Sorry. We can't compete with e-bay.
We would not be the only players in the retro market. There are quite a few products out there that can do what you want.
Commodore are making modern functional machines that do all the things you'd expect with today's technology.

Love that, I must admit your ideas is what I've been dreaming of for quite a while. Keep up the good work ! I've always loved Amigas but nothing compares to VIC-20 and C64 on the nostalgia level for me because those were the machines I started out with.

It is good to see that this new commodore is going to come out with it's own designs and not just gather together the various screenless laptops that are already made and sold under other brands. How long before you guys have your own products?
What would be a great use of the Commodore name is to put it on some of the tablets that are coming out of China and being sold like hotcakes on Ebay. |
