Hmm, that's odd. I was there at that Motel 6 a few years ago, after attending a Warp 11 concert. I arrived late at night. There was a security guard walking the parking lot. I didn't feel unsafe, at all.

Great to hear that there's going to be another Game Competition again this year. I look forward to participating...

Your mileage may vary, of course, but I've lived here for thirty years, and in that time, the bits of Watt Avenue on that side of the freeway have never been safe after dark.
On the upside, Star Trek The Exhibition is at the Aerospace Museum of California, which is in McClellan park. The exhibits are on par with the costumes, models, and props that used to be on display at the Las Vegas Hilton, and you can get a picture of yourself in the captain's chair on the bridge of the original series Enterprise and/or standing on a transporter pad (with uber cheesy transporter effect).
If anyone is traveling through or planning on going to the city (San Francisco), The Walt Disney Family Museum opened just before Amiwest last year. (Plus, it's right next to LucasArts and ILM, and the Presidio itself is pretty cool. You'll have to head across the Bay Bridge into Emeryville to see Pixar.)Last edited by Trev on 15-Sep-2010 at 12:12 AM.

Ah, yes, I had forgotten that was there. I went to the exhibition when it first opened up in Long Beach. Now if I can find some time to get away from AmiWest to go to the exhibition. :) However, I'm not sure about attending to the exhibition a second time, now that they don't allow photographs to be taken.

The exhibit is staffed by volunteer veterans and high school kids. Truthfully, they don't care if you take pictures as long as they don't see you take them. _________________ Sam440ep-flex 733 MHz/1 GB RAM/Radeon 9250/AmigaOS4.1 Update 2 borked A1200/Blizzard1260+SCSI-IV/Z4+MediatorZIV/Deneb/Voodoo3/CatweaselMk3 more borked A1200/MBX1200z/Indivision A500/clockport/RRNet A600/A603 |

Can't wait to see the games you have lined up for us this year! And a BIG thanks for supporting the show. Last year's mid show move was crazy but we pulled together and got it done like we Amiga users always do.
Safe Travels and I'll see you @Amiwest!

Since I work two blocks down from that motel on Watt Avenue, I thought I'd share a few anecdotes...
About two months ago, I was driving into the office one evening to replace a failed hard disk (yay for me). As I pulled into the parking lot, I saw a woman putting her clothes back on. I chalked it up to a free show.
A few days later, as I was driving past the motel on the way to the freeway, there was a burning car in the parking lot of the could-be-a-brothel motel.
A few days after that, the could-be-a-brothel motel was raided by the sheriff's department.
A week or so later, I saw what might have been the same prostitute one afternoon at Carl's Jr. She was wearing a sheer night dress thing and black lingerie. At 12:30 PM. Classy.
And only a few days after that, I witnessed a man assaulting a woman with a hand axe on the corner near the Chevron, across from the could-be-a-brothel motel.
I see prostitutes out daily (they're brave like that), and it's one of those neighborhoods where random people walk the streets during the day with bottles in paper bags.
So, that's North Highlands. Lovely place to raise a family. Last edited by Trev on 16-Sep-2010 at 04:55 AM.

Thanks Bill, looking forward to seeing everyone again this year. This is going to be an awesome show and I can't imagine missing it. Just too much new stuff to see and play with and the news from Trevor Dickinson should be really interesting.
I am working on the games selection this week and will continue to do so until I have them all picked out, installed and tested. Great prizes this year too, so bring your "A" game again this year and you will be walking away with some great gear.
See you soon, AmigaDave
Edit: I see that Trev is trying to attract a different kind of "Amiga" user to the AmiWest 2010 Show with his colorful tales of the local citizens!

I'd really like to go this year (I have two A1200 mobos that needs some TLC), but it's the weekend of my wedding anniversary. If we could move it back to third weekend in July (my mother's birthday), I'd be golden. _________________ Sam440ep-flex 733 MHz/1 GB RAM/Radeon 9250/AmigaOS4.1 Update 2 borked A1200/Blizzard1260+SCSI-IV/Z4+MediatorZIV/Deneb/Voodoo3/CatweaselMk3 more borked A1200/MBX1200z/Indivision A500/clockport/RRNet A600/A603 |

I live about 600 miles away in Salt Lake. Although that's relatively close, my work schedule prevents me from going. However, since Sacramento is a boring place, if I were going I would stay in Reno, Nevado. It's 100 miles west on I80, a mere hour-and-a-half drive. It's a little like Las Vegas on a smaller scale. There's gambling, live shows, buffets, etc. Since it's off-season, you might get a good deal on a room. Lake Taho and numerous snowless ski areas are also close by.

| @number6 I just learned the banquet is really selling well so anybody sitting on the fence should buy their ticket right away.
I also learned more updates are coming including a rather long vendor list...
With AmiWest all the action seems to happen the last couple of weeks before the show. _________________ ExecSG Team Lead |

The "Greater Sacramento Metropolitan Area" has gambling available too. About 15 minutes away from North Highlands in Roseville/Rocklin CA and the Thunder Valley Casino is there. We have something like 4 tribal casinos within an hour of Sac in just about every direction...
There's also a Dave & Busters in Rocklin.
Does anyone know if Bill Kendrick (New Breed Software) is attending? He's an Amiga fan and he's thrown the nearby "Davis Atari Party" for a couple of years now...
In the future, there's a safe(r) Holiday Inn Express in Natomas (off Del Paso Road) which is also closer to the Sac International Airport...
p.s. Alert the Sac News & Review. They'll plug the event as they have the Davis Atari Parties... Last edited by Lynxpro on 10-Oct-2010 at 11:21 PM.
