ASIARIM is the, well, soon to be, sole holder of the commodore trademarks. just as soon as they can raise the cash.

Some news posted just hours ago about Asiarim in relation to the license:

Quote:
The License Agreement is for an initial period of approximately 3 years, provided that certain financial and sales commitments are met, and can be renewed subject to fulfillment of certain sales targets and financial commitments.

Quote:
Asiarim is focusing on its mobile product gaming strategy,

Quite a long path from C=USA to the licensor.

It's all so that there is Asiarim (with a CEO from the netherlands) that are driven to produce and sell the C64. Therefore, perhaps it's called CommodoreUSA, the UK is at a CommodoreUK and Germany CommodoreDE etc..
This means that the owner has its own production capacity. Almost as with CBM in the 80's with the difference that only the sales companies that use the name Commodore.

The whole idea seems to be stronger than we had expected.

For their sake it better be, since they seem to show only corporate operating losses to date.

Quote:
so far this fiscal year they've racked up nearly $900,000 in losses.

Granted, that's "chicken feed" if there are VC involved.

I guess I'll respond to my own post.
I had mentioned earlier that as of the 2007 articles, Tulip had never been paid by CIC.

You might want to read this page and the links, which seem to back up that story, at least through 2008 and 2009:

http://www.commodore.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1508

Also some newer information and links from 2010:

Interesting links. They seem to reveal that CUSA is only licensed to build these PC64 things, though. Asiarim is apparently the company that intends to put tablets, notebooks and all-in-one PCs to the market. Before the end of 2010, apparently. So its Asiarim now and not CUSA who are actually going to be bringing these mysterious 'innovative products' into production?

As an aside, isn't it interesting how much of a buzz CUSA have managed to drum up on a Commodore-dedicated forum? All those Commodore fans eagerly unpacking their Phoenixes and telling all their Commodore mates all about it...

Well, maybe they're just shy.

Ahh...you're referring to the admin making a new forum on September 12, with not one single post being made?

http://www.commodore.ca/forum/viewforum.php

Perhaps that is why they stay on AW, where at least they get some discussion?

@Shufflepuck

Somewhat jagged graphics, eh?

I sense they grabbed some small pics just as placeholders and blew them up in size. They show the identical aliasing issues of enlarged pics.

Notable exceptions are 2 pictures on the corporate page.

Yep! And what about the Systems section, talking about layouts.. And why they have an Ubuntu section and an OS section? Seems also they removed any trace of AROS or UAE from the site.

If you want to be technical about it, his use of the Windows logo is incorrect.. Commodore stopped using

C=commoodore in 1984 and moved to

C=Commodore (with upper and lowercase from 1984-1994)

No logo on this site is properly and legally attributed.. Would Microsoft Corporation care or probably bother to care? Probably not..

From the Commodore USA website...

Quote:
All Commodore and Amiga computers fully support Ubuntu and Windows operating systems.

Any "AMIGA" computer should run AmigaOS otherwise it is nothing more than a PC with an Amiga sticker on the box.

Not that this "Commodore" will probably ever ship a computer anyway.

@Daniel

Who care ?

It is a pure vapor, just wait some weeks ..

BTW: why Amigaworld allow tons of these crap threads instead to open the space the real Amiga news (OS4, MorphOS and AROS news) ?

No that's just the current top section of the new one, in its state a few weeks back.
An Australian web design company is working on it.
What can I say... Nothing ever goes as quickly as you hope.

Whatever. It seems more likely that they've only just got around to issuing their own press release because you've only just now got the licensing for your PC64 sorted out. Which is interesting - you only have a limited license, and only to build the PC64. Asiarim are going to do the C= branded all-in-ones, notebooks and tablets themselves, with you as the 'retro' sideshow.

Regardless, you've finally given us third party confirmation of your right to use the Commodore brand name for something at least. Can we now see a similar document from Amiga Inc confirming your right to the Amiga brand?
