@number6

Here's my questions (some may be dups):

@Hyperion/Trevor

* Can you give us some benchmarks of X1000 (in comparison with AOne XE, Peg2, Sam440ep/flex, etc)?

* Do you plan some sort of UAE integration in OS4 (bundle UAE, KS3.1/3.x, glUAE, RunInUAE, etc)?

* Do you have any plans on implementing support for putting the OS4 Kickstart on a Flash memory or similar?

* Any plans on starting "bigger" ad campaigns to attract new/old blood to OS4?

* What are your main goals for next year?

* When will we see a demo of Xena/XMOS chip?

* Any status update on the OpenOffice Light port for AmigaOS?

* Anything you can share in the area of memory protection and multicore processing for OS4?

* Is Update 3 soon to be released, and if so will USB2 and the new shell be included?

* Has the X1000s reached the beta testers yet?

My question is a bit different compared to others as I am fairly new to the whole Amiga platform (even though I am in my mid 40s).

So, question is for both A-Eon and Hyperion.

Question...
Will the X1000 system come with full user manual and documentation that explains to someone very new to Amiga how to use the X1000 and how to use Amiga OS 4.x that comes with it? Something that covers all the basics on how to use the system, get on the Internet with the X1000 and OS 4.x, etc...

Thanks

TJ Ferreira

- When can we expect the next update (4.1.3?) of AOS and what will be benefits beside the X1000 support? (Hyperion)
- Can expect more gfx card and sound drivers (essential to all), as well as better printer/scanner support in AOS 4?
- Are there any plans to improve WarpOS compatibility and use hardware render? (Hyperion)
- When can we expect that all Hyperion games work on OS4 and what happened to Gorky17 port? (Hyperion)
- Could AmigaOne name also be licenced to Acube to achieve visibility (e.g. AmigaOne 440, 460) (Hyperion)
- Do you have any knowledge is AmigaInc existing company (Web site defunct) (Hyperion)
- Will introduction of EP460 mean a EP440 price dropdown? (Acube)

That would be all.

When Pagestream for OS4 will be finalized? (Pagestream)
With so many good 3rd party apps can we have the contribs folder back on OS4 CD? (Hyperion)
When can we expect nice OS 4.1 website as it was? (Hyperion)

This once may be doubleposted

When can we expect fast and hardware using OpenGL? (Hyperion)

Final one: Will there be Dopus Magellan port, started by GuruMeditation but suddenly dissapeared? Is Hyperion or any other company willing to do it (Hyperion)

@ The Friedens
1. Are you going to protect AmigaOS brand against unfair business practices?

2. Do you plan to undertake steps to stop the continuous outflow of most
talented AmigaOS programmers to AROS and MorphOS?

3. Are you going to increase the number of programmers working full time on
AmigaOS in 2011 to 4 developers?

4. Do you think development of AmigaOS system has speed up or slowed down
in 2010?

5. If in 2011 you had sufficient amount of developers to add to AmigaOS
system either new graphics subsystem or memory protection what would you
choose?

---

@Trevor
1. Taking into account planned retail price of AmigaOne X1000 computer
coming to 1150 pounds, do you still consider this product as competitive
and addressed to wide circle of users?

2. From the brand promotion point of view, do you think that customised
keyboard and mouse attached to AmigaOne X1000 will fulfill their goal?

Most developers did their decision more than 6 years ago. I don´t think there is any flow between OS4-MorphOS-AROS today.

@pavlor

Well, MorphOS is most developed PPC Amiga OS, and such shame AmigaInc
has not built OS 4 foundation on it, as well as that Genesi is out (no hardware beside old PPC Macs). Even I am pro OS4 I respect what MOS team did. However, only stop of flow would be contracting by either Hyperion or Amiga OS4 big companies - which are non existing (only big products are Page Stream and Hoolywood)

I believe publishing sufficient documentation to create for OS4 would be good thing to do.

There was no need. They had the sources to AmigaOS. (At least in theory.) Why would they need to make an AmigaOS clone when they had the real thing? (Actual sources.)

In any case I don't think MOS would be a good foundation for OS4. Unlike OS4 MOS is not it's own kernel, it relies on the Quark micro-kernel and then the ABox thing sitting on top which I'm still waiting for to look like that CU cover. And in the start ABox, the Amiga part, was only temporary, to be replaced later by some other Box I read. Forget which. Great foundation for an AmigaOS! You might as well stick Linux under it. (No I don't think we should do that.)

Now the features that MOS has that OS4 doesn't? Yes let's take those!

Well, I don´t think that OS without virtual memory and with "modern" filesystem still in experimental phase can be called "most developed PPC Amiga OS"...
(this was rather OT)

Is there going to be a full Open Office port (not OO for kids!) with full compatibility with x86 files?

@thinkchip

Its probably too late for these questions to go to AmiWest, but I think I can answer you:

OOo4kids is in the process of splitting into OOo4kids and OOo Light. They have the same code-base, but the interfaces will look different. OOo Light will have a more mature interface, suitable for sensible adults like us.

And all versions of OpenOffice are compatible with .doc, .odf and a range of other less widespread formats.

Porting a full version of OpenOffice is currently impossible though. If nothing else, the lack of Java on AmigaOS prevents us from using the database parts of OOo.

@thread

some questions :

When will Hyperion partner with a GFX card company to get professional 2D/3D hardware acceleration and OpenGL drivers ported to AmigaOS ?

Hyperion has currently failed to get the rights to reprint/update the RKRM, as you know these are severly in need of an update, being the most technical Amiga developer manuals - What is Hyperion going to do ?

Will Hyperion be in favour of a open source / community driven recreation of the RKRMs ?

Commodore released a technical system CATS and technical magazines were also available - like Amiga World technical Journals for a fee.

Will Hyperion consider releasing a similar system.

Will Hyperion/AEON showcase AmigaOne Systems at large computer and technology shows/events ? EG at Moscone Centre
