@Varthall

Wow, thanks for continuing the development! I don't have anything to add from what's been allready written, I'm just glad that you're working on it since it's a much needed software for AOS .

Compiling a later version and get rid of the most critical bugs should me prio nr 1, right? Like making it stable to use with Clipdown for watching Youtube and then look at the other issues if they are MPlayer related.

Slightly offtopic but...

In many threads, I have read lots of comments about DVPlayer being a much better video player.

Is mplayer actually better in some ways, or where does this sudden interest come from?

Just curious, never used DVPlayer, just read some really good comments about it. Mplayer, however, I use daily (mostly on linux)

DVPlayer is a very nice player, which I've registered and encourage everyone else to register as well. I use it for general playback for formats it supports. It would be great to see an updated release of this player as well.

DVPlayer's main advantages over MPlayer are:
Is written specifically for OS4 so playback is a bit faster.
It has a nice GUI interface.
It's more stable and rarely if ever crashes.

MPlayer's main advantages are:
Plays more formats. Most notibly .mov and .flv, but many more as well.
Can stream video/audio over the internet.
Supports more video title formats and can convert between them.
Supports many (too many to list) features besides just playing back videos.
(ie. saving played videos or snapsots of frames to disk, can convert to different formats, etc.)
Has an AREXX port.

The AREXX port is a biggie for me since it makes it very easy to control form other programs. I do that with my ffmpegGUI (video conversion/editing) and SimpleSub (video subtitling) programs. The many formats it supports make it better suited for my program ClipDown (download and play from internet).

Ok, sorry for the shameless plugs but that's why I have a vested intrest in seeing MPlyaer improved and am happy that we now have a couple of people taking up support.

@ktadd

MPlayer OS4 can actually be faster than DVPlayer (this benchmark.avi xvid file i was using in some tests was played in 20s less than DVPlayer, IIRC). That's mostly because MPlayer has a more recent ffmpeg version. DVPlayer is probably faster at blitting than MPlayer OS4, but it would be easy to make it substancially faster as well, using appropriate overlay modes and optimized copy routines.
