@ppc_addon

Having little spare time, I'm concentrating to the kernel side for the Sam460.
I've obtained a quite stable kernel: you can check updates and downloading kernels and their configuration from my site.

What it is working with the latest kernel:
- Debian Squeeze with both framebuffer and DRM enabled;
- Debian Wheezy, only with framebuffer;

Most notable issues:
- no sound from the internal SM502;
- both Squeeze and Wheezy installation procedures are only possible from a serial terminal;
- enabling KMS always lead to a kernel panic or (at best) to a fallback to a framebuffer;
- Wheezy has a serious issue with the DRM build as Xorg keeps resetting the GPU. I noticed that DRI developers are lately working on (finger crossed) such issue.

Anyone else working on the subject or has experienced the same installation issues?

@virgolamobile

It's a nice webpage. Thus you're simply using the experimental method without any progress.

I asked to Elwood because he was talking about a professional support.

@virgolamobile

You've obviously done a lot of work on this. Well done!

@Hypex

now that virgolamobile has ported a few kernals to the 460, are you going to port and package a molk-kernalpackage that we can use to boot macos with ? :)

@virgolamobile

Thanks, but is it possible to have Mint 11 PPC with official SAM 460 kernel?
Could ACube contact this Mint PPC team?

@Barana

Why me?

I'm still trying to finish my new A1 Debian installer. Once I have a trusted stable kernel. (Hypex hides from Geri.)

Actually I have been interetsed in MOLK for some time as well as PegXMac2. I'd be happy to port it so it can be installed. But, MOL has kernel modules that must be compiled for the currenty running kernel. And since I don't have a Sam I can't do that. I can do it for the A1. Which has lots of kernels now.

I've compiled MOL before. So if someone with GCC could compile it on Sam Linux I could work with it. Ubuntu [9] can compile out of the box.

@Hypex

thats the problem, unless u are a boffin and install via serial cable, the 460 has a kernal - debian userland is installed via serial terminal.... spooky stuff.
ANY *nix distro with an installer would be great at this point.

I now know that the only people that should be called professional are Amigans. Period.

Talking is easy but leads to nowhere, unfortunately.
BTW, I already contacted the MintPPC guys but ... they just don't care. You know they have the old Macs and it's enough for them.

i suppose you also had a private conversation with a distro maintainer because i read about on MintPPC forum and your offer was quite freakish.

@ppc_addon

I'm probably wrong, but was it you used to work on the CruxPPC distro?
Are you a Sam460ex owner?

I'm wondering if you consider yourself a "pro" about PPC Linux distros and, if so, could you take care of creating a distro for the Sam460?
Of course, being a "pro" means that you must be paied and I would like to get an idea on how much this distro could cost.

If you are not a a "pro" and you are interested can you help in some way?
Just few advices here and there (e.g. booting a text console from a RadeonHD or getting the DRI/KMS working) could be of great importance: getting a not perfect distro is better than not getting anything...

Ah, I see, that's the state the early X1000 kernels had. I womder does it do any different if you add a string like "console=tty0" to the kernel command line? That should redirect the console to the keyboard and screen. Or the screen at least.
