@rossv

Ok, sorry for my ignorance

It is normal that the audio gone away once you power off the Sam460ex?
In my case today it didn't work again at the first power, after a pair of reboot the audio returns to work.

Also I have some glitches in audio reproducing, and the audio reproduction is a little slow , so I ear mp3 in a little slow singing

Maybe it is due to the fact that the HD is connecetd to a sil3512 instead of the sata onboard?

@sicky

My monitor's built in speakers won't work with anything except when connected through the RCA plugs at the back.

Congrats with releasing the driver! This must be the most difficult audio driver that has ever been written for the Amiga, a work that even I didn't dare to take on!

I'm handing over my audio driver guru status to you now!

Good job!

For curiosity: why do u think so or why is this the case? What is so "special"/"difficult"/"problematic" with it?

Thanks,

Even after a reboot?

Yes several reboots, makes no difference. AHI prefs is set up fine but no sound, have a lead with jack plug both ends, one into monitor other end into SAM460. Monitor says volume is 100%. Might try and find a pair of speaker just in case monitor is playing up, but it's a bran new Hanns H 22" model, but unsure of menu system on it it's a bit quirky to use if not used to it!

Because the sm502 has no audio controller, so the audio controller part that is present on 'normal' audio chips had to be coded in microcode, which is why I took my hands off it. But Ross can probably explain it better.

How do you've changed the settings? Do yop have alterated from the ones indicated in the readme?

I put all correct settings in as stated in readme and it didn't work even after several re-boots! I then changed settings and saved, then put them back to correct settings and saved again and re-booted and this time got sound when OS4 screen loaded, now a very happy bunny

I can play audio files with but if I play movies with either MPlayer or DVPlayer I get no sound, haven't tried a DVD movie yet!

Is there a way to avoid glitches in high quality playback ? Or should we wait for a release version ?

@kyle

With this beta driver, it is a known issue that on rare occasion your audio may not work when you reset or power up. After a reboot, it usually is fine again.

Regarding your slow audio, this is not normal even for this beta driver. Please refer to ikirsector.it forums.

Using a sil3512 should cause no problem, it is most likely not related to that.

Very odd, probably something weird happened to your AHI prefs file when you first saved your prefs.

As Davy has explained, the SM502 has no real audio controller in it. The audio controller is therefore implemented through 8051 microcode.

@Hello rossv,

is this an initialization issue? (just asking)

could you provide a little tool that correctly init the audio chip?

@Framiga

Known issues will be addressed in the subsequent driver updates.

Thank you for your patience and understanding :)

Ewww! So you had to write an emulator as well then..?? Obviously without docs I presume, as usual.... 8051? Not 8086? That means it would be just as obnoxious to write a driver for a PC too then.

It's absolutely facinating to what insane levels they can complicate their stuff.

@Deniil715

There is a general purpose 8051 core in the SM502 that is used to execute the microcode.

It's complicated for the driver writer but it's simpler/cheaper for the chip designer.

@rossv
so, you suggest, it was financial decission to equip sam460 with a chip that is hard to write driver for but cheaper. which is a bit strange logic if the hardware is meant to be supported seriously, since the inverstments in neccesary additional programming have to be taken into account as well.

edit: i wonder what the technical reason is.
