Heh, OSNews is doing pretty well in all of those. Third place, far ahead of the remainders, and close to the Amiga-specific sites.

Our coder rocks :).

@Templario

That's my upload (see post #12). It's from 2009 but is the latest I'm aware of.

@eliyahu

I use the following web browsers ...

AWeb APL Lite 3.5.09
AmigaOS4 OEM version of IBrowse 2.4
NetSurf 3.0 (Development) graphics.library static build
Origyn Web Browser 3.31
MUI-OWB (OWB 1.9 - AmigaOS4 port)
Timberwolf Alpha 1 release

I appreciate the efforts of all the developers past and present who have worked hard to provide these fine web browsers.

I purchsed AWeb-II many years ago for surfing the net with my A2000HD.

AWeb APL Lite 3.5.09 was my main web browser for several years on OS4 because I was already quite comfortable with AWeb.

In my opinion, IBrowse 2.3 and 2.4 was and still is a valuable addition to OS4. IBrowse was my other web browser for all these years with OS4 and was always a dependable backup when I was playing with the other web browsers.

I have used many versions of Joerg's OWB from early releases until OWB 3.31. OWB 3.31 was my main web browser until the last two weeks. I have not tried OWB 3.32 on OS4.1 Update 3 ... maybe this weekend.

I have been using MUI-OWB (OWB 1.9 - AmigaOS4 port) since September 1. I like it. It has been very stable on my system.

I have also used a few different versions of NetSurf. I like this web browser. I have installed v2.5 and v2.7 but usually use NetSurf 3.0 (Development) version. I have not tried NetSurf 2.7 on OS4.1 Update 3 ... maybe this weekend.

Timberwolf Alpha 1 release seems to work ok, but it is not a contender. Maybe the next public release.

Very nice article. Well presented and interesting to read. Have you ever thought of submitting an article to one of the remaining amiga zines online or otherwise?

Any reason why you use the 3.0dev (which will be older than 2.7, unless I've sent you an update)?

@Chris_Y

I was using NetSurf 3.0 (Development) graphics.library static build
SVN 10867 (06.10.2010)
which is probably the initial release.

I guess I got side tracked onto something else shortly after I downloaded NetSurf 2.7. In any case, I have been using NetSurf 2.7 for about 2 hours today and I am quite happy with it. I have already added it to my AmiDock and moved NetSurf 3.0dev off to the sidelines.

Thanks,
redfox

@redfox

Sounds like the "fixed" 2.6 release which I think had WebP support and the new treeviews - so, to all intents and purposes, 2.7 with extra bugs

I subscribed. My first issue arrived last night. I am less than impressed. The improper spelling of the word "following" didn't help.

thank you. actually i funded the bulk of my university expenses through an ezine focused on the macintosh community back in the late 1990s. i'd love to contribute to something like amiga future, focusing on practical comparisons and reviews, such as classic productivity software, utilities and methods to provide more perceived performance, walk-throughs of audio and video authoring solutions, things like that.

i wonder if andreas would be open to another contributor? maybe i should ping him with a proposal and sample article....

@eliyahu

I've come late to your excellent article and the interesting comments. Srangely I'm using ibrowse as a kind of sidekick to muiOWB when it runs into problems while downloading images to disk. See next post to kas1e for details. Forget the appalling layout issues with Ibrowse, it still has a use.

@kas1e

I've had a couple of issues with muiOWB though someone else has reported the "download second image" problem I see. I get it at this site:

http://climatecommunication.org/new/articles/extreme-weather/overview/

Click on an image to expand it, save to disk, do this to a second image gives DSI error, scrolling (rendering if I understand the comments about Cairo) becomes almost non existent. Frustrated by this, and several reboots later, I called on Ibrowse to get the images saved, which it did.

While attempting to write this comment earlier today, I opened bookmark manager to get the above url and earned an instant crash. I have not experienced it at any other time on three machines (2 A1 XEs & a SAM 460) and have not been able to replicate it again while writing this.

@NoelFuller

Please report all the reproducable bugs to the muiowb bug-tracker, or chances to have bugs fixed will be low (just because i can forget or just miss something in the mess of forums posts)

@eliyahu
I just performed an Internet speed test at http://testmy.net/ and was astonished at the download speed difference between MUI-OWB and RA-OWB:

RA-OWB result: 2.3 MBps (About the speed I always get)
MUI-OWB result: 3.9 MBps

I would not have thought that a browser could make such a drastic difference in a simple download. Unfortunately, I am unable to test Netsurf, IBrowse or AWeb at that site. They start the download but never return to the results page.
