Well I got my order in (might of been one of the late ones) so not had the final order ready to ship notice yet, but you can expect a

unboxing vid
booting up vid
and I might even do a 1hr live Ustream event with my AmigaONE X1000 when I have it set up
and of course a review, after I fully tested it.

Congrats Sam.

I also just paid my final payment as I was told mine was ready to ship.

I am in USA so maybe I could be one of the first to receive it on this side of the pond.

Since you are in UK you will get to use yours first but maybe I will be one of the first end-user usa customers to get theirs.

Time will tell.

@J'Bar

It's just how you do the math. It's his first brand new Amiga since 1993.

Let's do a simple estimation on the end price. I believe that VAT is in the 20% range (it is over here in the Netherlands). So that would mean a total of some £2300.-- At a 19 year time span this means he had to put £120.-- a year in his old sock. That's £10.-- a month. It's not that much .

Now, take that £10 / month, safe-up for three years (average usability period of a Windows PC) then you've got some £360,--. It will get you a reasonable luggable but I doubt that it is as much fun as the X1000.

This is Amiga math, it's not real-world math

I've paid the initial deposit and I'm hoping to pay the rest.

I hope soon.

Mac Pro - £2,221.00 incl. VAT

* Part number: Z0LF

Configuration

* One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem”
* 6 GB (3 x 2 GB)
* 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s hard drive
* ATI Radeon HD 5770 1GB

* One 18x SuperDrive
* Magic Mouse
* Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (British) & User's Guide (English)
* Country Kit

This piece of Apple kit is considered prohibitively expensive and yet is STILL cheaper than the X1000! We at least need a Flat Screen LCD Monitor included with our AmigaOne for that price and a software bundle! Come on guys!!! the A4000 had back compatibility with OCS and ECS out of the box, is Classic emulation/CD32 booting enabled out of the box? Also, will Timberwolf be included with OS4.2?

@BigD

i dont think there is a single person here around that is not yet aware how expensive this choice is. no need to drag it along again. software bundle of any quality would further delayed things and add to the final cost even if only for putting it together, and then everybody can collect anything essential there still is around internet.
including a flatscreen would be another pricey mistake since everybody has other needs and preferences. i think its fine to ship a computer even without keyboard and mouse as long they do not have a custom value. and the backwards compatibility of a4k might also not be as perfect although that would be a nice missing link here.

@wawa

I think what I'm trying to say is I think we should expect a complete package for this price i.e. full backwards compatibility, a branded monitor and deals on Hyperion PPC games for download etc. It's all a bit...

"Ask not what your AmigaOne can do for you but what you can do for your AmigaOne!"

... for my liking.

Just answer me something. If they all sell out and every PA6T that A-Eon own is pulled from the inventory, will this venture have "kept the party going?" I hope it does but I'm guessing a lot more is now riding on the 'netbook project'. The costs accrued with additional mobo revisions seem to have taken their toll on Trevor's boundless enthusiasm from what I saw of his speech in the USA in October. I pray A-Eon can get these units down to £2000 inc VAT with some valid useful and fun bundled software. Is this just me or this not a must to bet a nice number of boards out there?

i think the quote fits pretty nicely, as when you are out of drinks you go out and buy whatever liquor there is in a night store around the corner. thats how keeping a party going works usually. i dont need to tell you how it ends though?

And yet this MacPro is produced in much higher numbers then X1000.
Also, note that MacPro is expensive for its price range of x86 components - same system branded as no name PC can be obtained quite cheaper.

Good way of price comparison is X1000 against similar SAM 460 system.
Then it shows price is not double, while X1000 board is superior in many aspects, from dual core faster CPU, XMOS, expandability, USBs etc.

OCS/AGA/CD32 compatiblity is now out of box thanks to bundled UAE and ROMS, unique for any OS except CommodoreOS Linux and AresOne that comes with AmigaForever lince.

X1000 licence sure includes OS 4.2 and Timberwolf should be done by OS 4.2 time hopefully.

first of all... WoW.....
Second, plz add yor test at my benchmarks topic:

http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=30008&forum=2

So finally we can have a clue of the X1000 cpu potential...I know that no 3D still availble but also pure cpu power perfomance can give us some ideas on what can expect form the finished product :)

Thank you!

@BigD

I am a Mac user professionally and could have easily purchased a new Mac over the X1000. I had been wanting a new system for a while to replace my old G5 that went out 6 years ago and then used a Macbook Air after the G5 died for about a year and now use a Mac Mini to run my business.

Logically I should have used my $3000+ to buy a New Mac Pro since I provide tech services for POS systems based on Mac OS X but something about the X1000 caught my attention 2 years ago and I have been keeping an eye on it since.

I guess I wanted to bring some of that old time fun of the 80s and 90s back into my computing life and even though I am mostly clueless about Amiga (since I was raised on Atari in the 80s up to mid 90s, then jumping the Atari ship onto Mac ship after that) I have found for me at least that learning about Amiga was worth my time.

I can now learn more about Amiga OS, can capture some of the old time spirit also while I use my A1000 and A4000T and CD32, and can maybe help advance this platform further by supporting it.

Had Atari had something as advance as Amiga OS and X1000 I would have explored that also but although the new FireBee is cool, it is not on par with speed and possibilities as the Amiga OS in my opinion so I am a new Amiga user really and putting my support in terms of $ and time to hopefully help the Trevors, A-eons, A-Cubes, Hyperions keep wanting to update this platform.

Call me crazy for spending so much as I probably should have purchased a new Mac Pro but hell, you live once, the Amiga OS platform has some real cool folks in it, and I want to be part of that.

TJ

@amigasociety

Yes. We have converted an Atari user into an Amiga user :P

About the time when we were trying to make your A4000T work.

I'm still confused about why your A4000T could not make a floppy disk bootable using the install command! :)

You may not know it because you're not a user IIRC but, as of Update4, AOS4 installation comes with euae+runinuae bundled and ready to go and - most of all - it contains legally licensed Kickstart ROMs

@amigasociety

I was a Atari 1040 STFM owner and moved to the Amiga in 1994 after C= bankruptcy, so I've always believed in the platform itself. There is a magic about it and it does promote people to use computers creatively, but then so does the Mac to a lesser degree. All the best to you.

That is very cool and a deal clincher, however it is a big gamble investing in the X1000 adventure

I still want one but I do live in a declining recession torn UK descending its way down the world's economic pecking order. Maybe the X1000 will be the only item of value in British homes after the inevitable economy collapse and Chinese/Indian bail out of the greater part of Europe!
