@Skuggan

Just like to bring you some news.

After the main Amigaport guy left to another company there wasn't any action but now they have two new guys working on it. One of them really active and have started to compile stuff. Have ofcourse some issues with the tcp/ip stack but we are helping him out with that.
Tomorrow we will have a meeting in stockholm with one of the guys (at the pub) and some other interesting companies to raise the awarenes of the AmigaNG.

This is all good news but the best news I think is that we in the project now work together with both MorphOS and Aros guys. And this does not only include this project with spotify but most of our projects.

What we do is to provide MorphOS guys with AOS4 machines or at least help them out with compiling/betatesting. Also the AOS4 guys try to get MorphOSmachines. The same goes for Aros. We also try to share knowledge between us.

The little things I have done and will produce will be released on all three systems.

In Januari spotify will dedicate their "hackday" to the AmigaNGport and we will try to be on site to help them out if we can.
I get back to you when I have more news.
Take care!

This is excellent progress!

Will you be loaning them additional OS4 machines for their hack day?

@Skuggan

i see the general tendency is finally becoming actual consens between the camps on contributor level, which is a good thing. as soon as everybody understands that we need to support alternatives in order to secure the investments in any of them, and as soon as it becomes a tendency you have to count in, the users and contributors may gain decisive voice in establishing common de facto standards, which may lead to practically unifying the camps to certain viable extent, even if theyll still remain be otherwise independant. important thing is, one has to stick to open approach here.

edit: another issue we probably could be gathering around is opening sources of current odyssey for all platforms, while further under the lead of fab of course.

@Breed

Just echoing what you said; Spotify is now pretty much THE software I use the most.
Always carry my mobile phone around, and with it; Spotify.

Last night we had a meet up in a pub in Stockholm and drank a lot a beers.
People from DICE/EA turned up and we had a good time. We didn't succeed to convince them to port Battle Field 4 to AmigaNG but we didn't expect that either. :)

The spotifiers didn't turned up....... because that were busy getting the libspotify through compilation. :) We were expected something in januari but I guess they worked some overtime. Good news.

We will now help them test it and make basic test but first they need to clear everything with the legal department. After this it shouldn't be to hard to port MorphOS and Aros. We have devs from those camps helping out.

So. Very good news but we don't have a ready product yet but last week was a huge step.

Gratulation. I must admit that I did not believe in any success chance regarding this project. So i lift my non-existing hat

You know what. I had some disbeliefs too. This is a huge step but I don't dare to celebrate yet. Besides that we celebrated too much last night anyway. Generated a even more epic bar tab. :)

Very good news, you have done hard work and you are good example how all of us (include me) should make the effort!
I will keep fingers crossed that there will be happy end for this project!
Thanks

@joeled

I hope Spotify will be released for OS4.1. This would be the next big milestone like Battle Squardon for OS4.1

@tommysammy

With respect, Spotify for AmigaOS is infinitely more important than one retro shoot em up no matter how popular it might been 'back in the day'.

It's not only the program themselves that is important but the fact that big companies release software for the AmigaNG (Whatever brand). Battle Squadron is also important because a is was well known back in the days and by a new release it gets media attention thus raising the Amiga awareness in general.

In the spotify projects I made many mistakes but I have learned from them. Right now I coordinates certain things in the project together with Stefan Nordlander but the technical support is made by Joakim (Jamiga). Steven Solie is also involved ready to answer questions that we can not answer. But so far Joakim have been able to answer everything (He is insanely talent). The Morphos support is done by StefanB (Onyx soft) and that port will benefit from the experience we gain during the OS4-port. I guess the AROS support will be done by Björn (Bearsoft). Otherwise we will contact other Aros devs.

The GUI can then be built by anyone with the right knowledge. However a simple example will be provided together with the lib.

The bottom line is that we are several people and I just wanted to take the opportunity to give them cred. Without them and you who donated this would get this far.

Also big respect to current guy at Spotify that deals with the amiga code right now. He is very talented, being able to develop stuff on platforms he never tried before.

Excellent collaboration! Hopefully the Amiga paths can show a true convergence on this project.

Does the Spotify guy read Amiga forums?

Excellent news! Thanks, and keep up the good work. I'm suddenly even more interested in this now since Spotify has finally been made available in Ireland... So I'd actually have use for a client now :)
