| A fresh new day, a fresh new hell.....
When I turned on my A1 it didn't boot ! Not even U-boot or drive checking at the beginnen... nothing
The drives do spin, and the DVD drive can be openend using it's eject button, so the power supply seems to be working atleast partly.
Battery ?

Its probably the battery. You could try disconnecting the mains cable for a while or reseating the ram, but it is most likely to be the battery. _________________ Playstation Network ID: xeron6 |

| Alright, that was my first guess also.
They are standard PC batterys, are they ? _________________ Theres a time to live and a time to die When its time to meet the maker Theres a time to live but isnt it strange That as soon as you're born you're dying |

The A1s are very picky when it comes to battery voltage - it really needs to be a good battery >3V to work, and while a PC might be fine with one a few years old, the A1 won't like it. They are pretty standard CR2032 batteries, and over here anyway you can get them in supermarkets, petrol stations, pharmacies etc, not just in electronics or computer shops. _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

Hmmm... Oh dear Well, next think to do is get a null modem cable and hook it up to another computer if you can to see if it outputs anything when you start it up. This might give you a clue as to what's going on. I can't remember the settings to use in the terminal at the other end, but I'm sure someone here does. _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

| I found this:
http://amigaworld.net/modules/features/index.php?op=r&rev_id=174&cat_id=16
So, I'm going through it right now.
1. CPU needs replaced (NutsAboutAmiga post #3 in "Amigaone RIP")
Will try later
2. CPU needs reseated ()
Will try later
3. Battery cr2032 needs replaced (nzv58l post #1 in "A1 boots with disk activity, but no screen. (This thing takes batteries)")
Replaced, no effect
4. Incompatibility with a card (MichaelMerkel post #1 and #11 in "radeon 9250 (HIS) - not working at all")
Removed all but radeon 9250 card wich always worked
5. RAM is incompatible ()
Perhaps faulty
6. UBoot flashed wrong ()
Didnt touch it
7. Power supply could be faulty/not firmly connected (Wizzard_o post #2 in "A1 not booting")
8. Faulty PATA/IDE cables 9. Faulty PATA/IDE drives
Removed all cables but the power cord and vga cable, so that doesnt seem likely _________________ Theres a time to live and a time to die When its time to meet the maker Theres a time to live but isnt it strange That as soon as you're born you're dying |

Yep you'll probably get laughed and, and then told they haven't stocked them in 10 years... If you're any good at soldering you can make them easily enough, or else there should be plenty on eBay. Don't forget, you need a serial port on the other computer as well - most computers don't have them at all any more... _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

Holy crap ! I'm fecked then, aint I ?
Alright time to think about emergency plans then, while I try to get it working again. Is there a way to read my JXFS drives on another computer ?
I ve removed the RAM module, if it was faulty shouldnt uboot tell me something if there isnt any RAM installed ?
I'll be removing the CPU module later on

Maplins sell Null Modem cables as standard. That's a UK shop but I don;t see why a similar Dutch shop shouldn't stock them.
It really is worth checking the serial first before you start dismantlng things.

Yeah, we've got a radioshack like store around here, but today it is closed.
My PC seems to have RS232C port
Tell me, a motherboard with the only thing connected is the CPU and GFX board should give somekind of uboot ouput on the screen, shouldnt it ? Even without RAM ? If so, then averyting I removed cant be the problem then ?
BTW, Anyone here living near me ? (Rotterdam/Breda, Netherlands) In case of emergency rescue of my data ? Last edited by Metalheart on 06-Feb-2012 at 01:34 PM. Last edited by Metalheart on 06-Feb-2012 at 01:34 PM.

I'm not so sure that UBoot will do anything with no RAM installed - a PC would usually just beep and not display anything, so I think RAM is needed to initialise the graphics card. Don't worry yet, there are plenty of cables on eBay, and as was said there, some places like RS would have them I guess... _________________ RobTheNerd.com | InstallerGen | SMBMounter | Atoms-X |

Be careful at this point. Don't remove things like CPU modules unless you really have too. If your machine was working fine yesterday and wasn't playing up it's not likely to be a major component.
Without a null modem cable it"s hard to know what's going on and I'm surprised you survived this long without it.
Now, with only a GFX card, the answer is NO. If your ram fails UBoot won't get to the VGA and you won't see a thing. Same with battery, if the battery fails UBoot won't come up.
Get that cable sorted out. Then pull GFX out as well. I don't consider the CPU something you can casually pull out IMHO. Leave it as a last minute thing when you have explored all other avenues. And while I'm at it. If UBoot works you don't need to pull that chip out either.
So make sure you have a fresh battery. And if you have a multi-meter check it. The serial should be 115,200 8N1. If you have spare parts like VGA and specially RAM then put them in place and test.
Your machine sounds like mine when it went under. My RAM went funny. Putting in another set of sticks then mine in somehow reset it. Or shifted some dust. http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=34858&forum=33 |
