It's a WIP!
Obviously it'll be nice to have the 'look and feel' of an Amiga program one day, but this is damn nice all the same and good progress.

| Sorry really tired and this is a hobby but Firefox 4? Not working? I had to dump Firefox 10.0 away from the cp as it is not good. Got Chrome and no chrashes anymore .
So many browsers, used to be an IB fan but why on earth there are no free available good ones on our platform? Maybe my & all donations to Amy Mozilla could be now divided to 50% to blue camp and the rest to the brothers just for the earths sake!
I'll die before anything happens and not so joking. After the money is gone for good:

The commands:-
delete #? fc-cache -r -f
worked fine for me from the fonts:fontconfig/fontconfig_cache directory
Now posting this from Timberwolf beta. It's very snappy on my A1-X1000
Well done to the Friedens
OK there are still a few issues, but for a beta version this is now very useable (on my A1-X1000 at least . If I get some time I will do some speed comparions with my Peg II, A1-XE, µA1-C and Sam Flex.

Hmmm, weird, I tried multiple times, still no worky.
What exactly are the delete #? and fc-cache -r -f commands doing by the way?
Anyway, mine opens a web browser window iin 10 seconds so if that is what yours is doing, I will not worry about it.
This browser is fine for tinkering but since I can't save bookmarks (I take it that feature is not done yet?), I don't see me using this much yet. I have all sorts of pages I frequent and my fingers will go dumb if I have to type in all the URLs.
My main interest in Timberwolf is one thing, playing YouTube videos, so I will wait for that to happen.

You're a very lucky fellow and close to the fire with an X1000, I guess.
With a humble micro it's a patience tester for sure: some pages take about 8 minutes to become usable, after a really HUGE amount of diskactivity. Guess that swapping to and fro video & RAM takes place to an extent that it is hardly usable. The final rendering, however, seems perfect.

It takes about 3 seconds to start here on X1000. Im using a OCZ Vertex 3 SSD drive.
I can also confirm that bookmarks dont work and trying to watch youtube vidoes doesnt seem to work either.
But for general browsing its great. |

Might be worth trying XMarks from your mac, that would allow you to transfer your bookmarks at least. Assuming that 'extensions' (or 'add-ons' in previous versions) is enabled. Alternatively, firefox (on windows, at least - not sure about OSX) stores bookmarks as an .html file anyway, so you can just copy the 'bookmarks.html' file between your machines.
Have you (or anyone) tried using Youtube opting into the html5 trial, rather than the default flash playback? Yeah makes no difference, I tried it. ^.^ Timberwolf managers to start playback of the video without joining the HTML5 trial anyway; albeit very slowly. Last edited by djrikki on 16-Feb-2012 at 10:40 PM.

If timberwolf is Amiga specific, why is teh menu options always visible in their screen estate eating toolbar, instead of being autohidden integrated into the title bar as on normal amiga programs? |
It's "amiga-specific" in 2 ways: 1)Due to some "legal issues" (code modifications? Not sure) it must use a different name than "FireFox" - note that Debian also have their own "IceWeasel"
2)Friedens do everything they can (legally) to prevent it from being ported to "amiga-like" systems (by not releasing any code they don't have to, according to the license) - of course this also affects Classic AmigaOS (not that it would ever run something this heavy / memory hog properly anyway) |

YouTube works on TW when you're in the HTML5 scheme. Be careful though - videos which use adverts do not use HTML5, even when you're signed up for it. I tested it on my own video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xx5NHWT-Nng

Nice! You might be able to 'disable' the videos which default to flash if you can edit the user agent string to something which doesn't support flash. (or disable the flash plugin in FF -ahem- TW prefs)
@DJRikki
Strange that you would have different results to Spirantho, perhaps you picked a video which was not available in html5, and it defaulted to flash?
----
Great to see this port progressing, the brothers Frieden have certainly got further than anyone else who's attempted the port, so congratulations to them for getting this far.
I was reading recently that FF 10.something will be the next extended-support release (replacing 3.6.25). It would make sense to clarify the bounty at some point (given Mozilla's change in release frequency), and the 'current' extended release point at time of final TW release seems the logical place to go imho. _________________ Troll - n., A disenfranchised former potential customer who remains interested enough to stay informed and express critical opinions. opp., the vast majority who voted silently with their feet. |

Strange. Bookmarks and fast links work OK for me. Also It appears to load faster that you indicated?
TrevorD
Update information:-
I exported all my bookmarks as an html filef from Firefox on my PC (I know I'm sorry ) and copied them to the the Timberwolf/CurrentUserProfile/Mozilla directory in Timberwolf. I then imported the bookmarks into Timberwolf.
Appears to work OK.

Sounds like you have a #### pc then.. It is rock stable on my old amd 64 3500+ system and can run for weeks. I have even had over 100 tabs open on several occasions and still no crash.
Recent firefox versions even uses less resources/ram during "heavy" tab use even compared to chrome. |

I had done the same copy from a PC of Bookmarks ToolBar and Downloadhelper for the Alpha Version of Timberwolf and just copied my CurrentUserProfile directory to this beta version. _________________ Sam460ex : Radeon Rx550 Single slot Video Card : SIL3112 SATA card |
