@Darrin

Gotta agree with most of that...

Dunno why I left out Silent Running though just watched it 3 nights ago for the zillionth time, absolute magic...

Gawd... Children of The Stones, one of the few kids programmes that actual used to frighten me (the one set in England around the lay lines and standing stones wasn't it)...

If you've never seen Cube I highly recommend them (I'd place them in my top 5, just remember to watch Cube Zero last)...

Doomsday... you've missed a gem there, it's set in Scotland when they wall us off because of an incurable disease, it's Mad Max meets 28 Weeks later with Lord of The Rings thrown in (oh and a bit of the Railway Children Vs Shaun Of The Dead)... it's a good un...

@Franko

Stones also featured the pre-Blake Gareth Thomas.

I'll download the Cube movies and Doomsday and check them out.

(Hands up who cries at the end of Silent Running!)

Yeah, I think the same.

I especially like Inferno, The Time Warrior, Terror of the Zygons, The Deadly Assassin, The Talons of Weng-Chiang, Horror of Fang Rock, City of Death, and the bits of Shada that were eventually released. They don't make TV like that any more...

LOL. I have a cyberman helmet. There was a weakness in the design, they needed to be available with subscription lenses as you couldn't wear glasses with it on

I can wear it now but had to have laser treatment to be able to do so !!!

That was good, the music sent shivers down my spine.
I got the DVD from the library not long back - it was still good.

I am working my way through the original 70s Survivors at the moment, its MUCH better than the modern version.

So they're skiiping series 9 and going straight to 10?

I suppose that's one way to get out of the mess they left themselves in after series 7 & 8...

Wow, thanks for the links. I saw you mentioned Babilon 5 since it had SFX made by the Amiga.

I would also include Max Headroom for the same reason (the US remake I mean, not the original UK movie).

@Pleng

I think they're classing Back To Earth as series 9.

I quite liked Series 8. Yes, it was different from the previous ones, but I liked the interactions with the old crew (Capt Hollister was great) and getting the "old" Rimmer back was a relief.

@g0blin

I never watched Max Headroom. I think I saw about 10 minutes of one episode and switched over. I think the problem was that Max came from a rather crappy UK TV show and that was enough to put me off.

Didn't know there was Max Headroom movie !!!

Only ever seen the TV series myself...

PS:I wouldn't really class Max Headroom as Sci Fi myself as it was only a show that played music videos...

I agree with you, as far as the UK movie is concerned. It was made with cyberpunk stuff in mind, but it drifted towards something else. The remake was a different story. It started with the same set up, but it was more "William Gibson" style. The Max Headroom "talking head" was made on the Amiga in the remake, unlike the original movie where the talking head was simulated using a rubber mask.

The show you are talking about was a music show that, I don't really know why, was lanched by the short movie "Max Headroom - 20 minutes into the future".

The american TV series lived only 2 seasons and was made by ABC. Here is the link:

Seem you had en entirely different show in the US in 87 for some reason, here in the UK in 85 Max Headroom was a music video show and in 86 it was a sort of chat show with a live audience, that's why I've never considered Max Headroom to be science fiction...

Yeah, something like that. The original idea was UK based, then the americans bought it and finally someone imported it here in Italy. I remember watching the show when I was in high school, then it disappeared.

I only recently found and downloaded both US seasons. I really liked cyberpunk stuff, even if technology today took a different road completely.

I thought Back To Earth was supposed to be set after series 10?

I personally hated Series 8. Too slapstic and juvenile.

IIRC it was supposed to be set after the "unmade" series 9 which they referenced in the story. Grant-Naylor have now officially called BtE "series 9" and this new one is being pushed as "series 10".

It is all confusing. Mind you, Doctor Who fans are still arguing over new series and whether the reboot was series 1 or series 27. Don't mention the TV movie!
