@Moxee

I will probably take the chance and stay at the Show Hotel too. If the room is not satisfactory, I will complain loudly until management and staff make it satisfactory. It probably isn't as bad as those reviews try to make it sound. Other than the fact that they were still doing rehabilitation work 3 years ago and the elevator was slow and noisy, I can't really complain about the room I had 3 years ago. I even had hot water in my shower, so I guess I was lucky.

With all the gear I take to each show, I will be better off staying in the hotel where the show is taking place. I just liked the hotel where the show had been held the last two years and my knee-jerk reaction was one of disappointment. The Ramada Plaza is not as bad as my initial reaction might have indicated or implied.

I will most probably stay there.

@amigadave

Reviews do sound pretty nasty on hotels.com as well.

@eliyahu

Nit pick is putting it lightly. To get 16 reviews and only 1 1/2 stars it must be ready to be condemened. I certainly wont be staying there. I've stayed in hotels and motels all across america and when you see less than 2 stars on those review sites its B A D . Then I look at the hampton inn rates of $130 are they for real? In sac? lmao what a joke looks i'll have to shop around...

How in the world did the show organizers allow the previous hotel to do this to them? Did they even try to fight for the show? strange

and why that area? From the research im doing now seems very dangerous??

Hey, that's where I stayed last year. Quiet, clean, and very comfortable.

No elevator to the second floor, though,

I don't think it is that bad either. Since you are getting there a day earlier than I am, tell them to give me a room next to yours. That way we can both bitch together if need be. Misery loves company and there is strength in numbers.

The last time I was there I had hot water too.

I am bringing three A2000s (I think) so I'd rather stay at the show hotel too.

Remember last year the guy from Oregon had his rental car broken into and equipment taken.

@Moxee

I don't know if I heard about that car break-in last year at the show.

I keep flipping back and forth about staying at the Ramada Plaza or not. Maybe I will just show up without a reservation and ask to see the room before I make up my mind to stay there, and take my chances with finding another room some where else. With 85 hotels to choose from, I am sure there will be lots of vacancies some where else, if I need to leave.

Oh yes, it is the same location where you didn't have hot water in your room that final year. The place became a real cesspool from looking at those reviews so we got out just in time.

Is this the same hotel that was used in 2004? The one with the abandoned and stripped cars at one end of it? It sure looks like it. If so, I was there in 2004 and I did not find it so terrible. They were very accommodating to me when they found out that I arrived 15 minutes after the kennel closed and couldn't get my dog in until the next morning. I told them I was going to sleep in my car so my dog would not bark all night. They gave me a room which was going to be revamped so I could bring my dog inside. I found this room quite nice even if scheduled for refurbishing. This is the year that the all night Amiga party was held next to my room. I swear that they were using our common wall to throw bottles against. I was awake most of the night. I should have joined the party.

Are you sure that wasn't Fred kicking the cockroaches into mush? ;^)

The break-in wasn't at the hotel, it was at his sister's house in Sacramento.

Well, I'll be making my reservation at the show hotel. If something is wrong, I'll go somewhere else. I'll bet it is fine though. I have a suspicion that a lot of those reviews were from people who always fly First or Business Class and never set foot in Coach. Some of those reviews made me think that Za Za Gabor had written them.

People who fly first class don't stay in places like that
.

Is there a vendor list who is coming to the show?

@realize

Being worked on and should be updated shortly. The hotel issue pushed back a few other plans. Are you going to make it?

@All

The hotel was a dump in the past but has been remodeled by Ramada. Brian and the Amiwest organizers in Sacramento have been to the property and have said it is vastly improved. You can see some of the photos on their website, note the addition of fountains in to the pool

http://www.ramadaplazacalexpo.com/Photo-gallery-Sacramento-Capitol-City-Hotel.shtml

We all liked last years venue but it just is not available any longer so we will do what we need too to keep the show going. This is going to be one of the most exciting Amiwest's yet! The addition of the programming sig, we have 2 different shipping AmigaNG boards available, MorphOS on powerbooks, and presence from Aros developers. It's going to be a great time!

Cheers,
Bill

There is no way to know what your room is like until you get there. Then all of them who gave bad reviews stayed. Even the one who complained about finding hair and stains in the bed slept in that bed. So, apparently some of them do.

Bill, I am going to be staying there. I thought it was fine in 2004, only showing its age. The photos on that link you gave looks like they have done a lot of work to the place.
