@OlafS25

Got to admit the only news I was looking out for was news on the netbook, so I'm completely disillusioned

@1Mouse

I am not a OS4 user (and will propably never be one). At least what was announced (and what not) shows the reality. Trevor finances Warp3D support himself so native 3D support (Mesa) is certainly a longer time away. Solie has not announced any news so there is propably no date and news certain yet.

Disappointed, ver very disappointed. Especially by this:

"Steve Sollie made it perfectly clear that there will never be any "collaboration" with MorphOS (or AROS) as he said basically what benefit or reward would that be to Hyperion..."

@AmigaBlitter

No I am not disappointed because I already thought that. They have a small market with a couple of hundred enthusiasts who they offer their paid licenses. They make it for profit and that explains it logical to me. The less user the less they can earn. And the less they can earn the less they invest. It is part time project as in all other camps and there is noone working fulltime on it (otherwise Ben would loose a lot of money or the brothers would work for low money, I do not think both). That explains for me why real updates take longer and longer. What I do not understand why they want to reinvent every wheel instead of using existing code.

@AmigaBlitter

That is not a quote from Steven Solie, it is an interpretation by Franko of the webcast.

Partially true, those were not the exact words he used but very close to it...

It will be there on the videotape as I'm sure it was recorded but you will find when you see it that basically that is what he said...

@Franko

I watched it, and I agree, it was along those lines.
Just wanted to ensure that your statement wasn't misreported as a direct quote.

No problem, just wish I could remember his exact words but as you say it was along those lines and I have to say like it or not the guy is right, they are running a business after all and in it to make money so I can see his point about not wanting to give away all the work they have done to anyone else...

@AmigaBlitter

the quote is wrong in context. They were talking about if its possible to open source AmigaOS4.

If they Open Sourced AmigaOS4 to all camps, they would have a common codebase, but Steve s said how can that happen as alot is already invested in AmigaOS4.

They have paid developers over the years and its their intellectual property thats making barely a living.

Open Sourcing is not what they can or will do.

Go tell M$ open Source Windows 7 ??

The fact that Amiga in general is loosing interest in the world is because non Amiga developers dont know if it is profitable for them to make programs and games for Amiga and earn a living.

Show developers you are willing to buy their products - then we will have a nice ecosystem that can grow.

Its been estimated Amiga in total of all camps is less than 10,000 people - nowhere near the minimum 50,000 small market size for developers to be interested in.

We all need to work together or we will all fail, make the Amiga ecsystem a friendly place we win - continue as we are with in fighting we all lose. look to yourself what side are you ?

@asymetrix

That is a great post!

Support Amiga developers. Buy what you use.
For example, Entwickler of amiboing.de are impressing me a lot!! Their products are very polished and well priced.

Amiwest have had problems with their odd method of streaming for the last couple of years.

I'm not sure why they still use this early 2000s way of streaming, a more reliable solution would be to use Ustream, Justin TV or even Youtube's live streaming service, they wouldn't have to worry about lack of bandwidth then either, and they could just embed it directly on their home page.

@thread

I'm disappointed that there was nothing on the netbook, I fully expected at best a demo of it, and at minimum some significant milestone announcement at Amiwest.

Was there any update on 4.2? Did they mention any more X1000's being built? From the very little I've seen on the forums, they may have implied no more NG Amigas? That of course may be false.

Is anyone preparing a full and objective write-up on the "news" of the show? The photgraphs have been excellent, wish there was more of a good summary that what was on Moo Bunny.

The photographs also show very weak attendance. Honestly I was surprised and not in a good way.

@pampers

Well maybe so but at the same time it looked like there were more interested people, what I mean there where none taking during presentation about whether forecast and stuff like that this year.

Steven Solie is no confidence booster that's that's for shore, its amazing to see how unprepared he was, generally speaking nothing new, no information on how things are coming along. Its a Q and A not a roadmap, he does not says where things are going and presenting something its all hi hi and ha ha.

ah, then so its as always, troubled and covering the lack of content to tell. cant say im very surprised, taking into account its had gonna be "a loud show".

same procedere every year. i wonder if i really should lose my time with listening to it.

@franko
good news that jason came well across. this is just as it is. aros is about fun, honesty, stisfaction and openness, i think im going to watch the presentation if i get to it anywhere.
