@Fred_AROS

The MUI Mplayer doesn't seem to like the stream, but the older Mplayer-GUI works fine

@Ryu

Confirm that MPlayer GUI runs the stream well.

@ddni

Since MUIMplayer is pretty slow here I allways use the "old" MPlayer with GUI

Still no joy on my µA1 but my network also seems to be messed up, so that might be the issue here ...

whose presentation is it now? os4 soft?
i love how he loves netsurf loading bbc or something telling how heavy the site is with javascript and all and how fast it is on netsurf.. and then he admits that netsurf jsut doesnt support javascript, therefore its fast not executing all that normally a browser would.

edit: wold love to see jason talk, is it recorded anywhere to see?

Surprised no one asked yet, but was there any news on the xmos expansion card and what it is?

Pleased with a-eon announcements however I still say the best solution to the lack of apps problem would have a Linux sandbox or emulator running on os4 so you could just switch to Linux when you wanted to with in the OS, like amicygnix.

I'd say I am slightly disappointed by the news from Hyperion, was hoping for more news and details of os4.2 and when where likely to see it etc, but I can understand their reluctance due to some on the Internet, but it just feels there not open and honest enough about where they are at right now and what they hope to try and do with what they have, I don't think many can still think that they are a big company with huge resources and they are most likely doing what they can with the developers and budget they have.

As a end user it just a bit diffcult to see progress when we get so little news or updates from them, I love Trevor's blog it's gives you an idea of what he and his company is up to and I thought amigaos blog was going to do the same but there been very little updates on that blog.

Any way I am going to plan my big usa holiday for next year soon, and if I can I might try and time it around amiwest, so would it be held the same time next year? Any way hope you all having a nice time.

@wawa

CNN, not BBC

But anyway, even if JS is not even executed, it´s still fast and usable ! Using Netsurf as Browser No 1 on all my 68k Amigas and still hoping that the OS4 Version will catch up with OWB, MuiOWB, Timberwolf etc.

Robert Bernardo usually makes his videos available after the show so hopefully anything you missed will be included there.

Lyle did a talk on XMOS yesterday. The expansion card is a prototyping board and is pretty much a large, blank VERO board which connects to the XMOS I/O. So far he's still developing the OS4 XMOS tools and has added a serial port and and SD card reader which are useful for his current purposes.

The board is really aimed at hardware tinkerers who want to design there own hardware projects.

Hopefully you'll be able to watch it in the next few days.

i was rather about enthusiastically claiming how fast it is in comparison to others knowin it has no javascript. otherwise i am too fond of netsurf, also chris' version, as i remember it from os4.

Javascript in NetSurf is currently in progress and if all goes well you should see a first impementation in 3.0

@amigang

What Steve Sollie said about a proposed new model of frequent paid updates rather than a big release may be the reason for the lack of direct news.
If we start using this model to update AmigaOS4.1 then an OS 4.2 release becomes less of an issue.It would also enables OS4 users to pick or decline some components funded by third parties like Warp3D for Radeon HD 5000 and HD6000 series cards.

@Spectre660

That sounds to me that they want payment for every small improvement. How should that work? A OS combines different components, often a certain is important for lots of other parts like changes in the graphic system. You cannot decide like in a menu you want this but not that. And I am already looking forward them to explain this model to people outside.

Or you have to pay monthly fees but then you need monthly updates or you pay by added features f.e. 3D support is 40 EUR, new drivers are always extra but then what is about bugfixes? Do you have to pay for that too and how much? For me that sounds rather strange and I do not believe that it will work

@Comi

I thought I read that netbooks are on the way out now in favor of tablets.

Where does that leave us?

@OlafS25

Steve Sollie mentioned working on an automated OS testing and distribution system.
So maybe a menu system could work.
Cash flow is very important to keep AmigaOS4 developement going.
I paid for OS 4.1 for my Sam-flex over 3 years ago. About US$143.00 .
5 updates later I have not paid any more on that license .
It has to be tough for Hyperion.

by the way some of the sniping in this thread is one of the given reasons why they're keeping their cards close to the chest. whether or not one thinks that is a valid reason is another thing, but that's one of the reasons given.

That is a very good reason! I would do the same for sure.

@Spectre660

Were there substantial additions in the meantime? I think they tried to improve stability of their USB support but that I would call bufixing and should be free of charge. In the last update I remember was the biggest improvement adding original Roms.

I do not know how "hard" it is because I do not know how much they really invest in it. I personally do not believe that anyone works fulltime for it. And it is hard because all solely depends on the financing by a shrinking userbase. I do not think that this will last forever, there will be a point where the userbase will become to small.
