Yes, the long delays have definitely dampened the enthusiasm for this project. I have been waiting for an updated firmware for my FPGA Arcade Replay board for about a year now and don't understand why Mike has not released incremental updates to the firmware, so we can see what progress has been made to the original firmware. I can understand that he does not want to push the button to produce 100 or more new boards, until he is sure that there will be no further hardware changes that will be necessary to perfect the board's design, but he could release the work he has done on the new firmware to the 30 to 50 people that already have existing FPGA boards, so we could help him beta test and debug the work he has already done. _________________ Amiga! That's certainly been half the fun of the Chamelon64. I've enjoyed watching that improve with update after update.
The same goes for the Minimig. When I bought it the Minimig couldn't even write to ADF files. I got one of the prototype ARM controllers from Jakub and we spent hours passing files back and forth as I tested games and made out bug reports and he updated the core. Happy days.
Mind you, I had more time on my hands back then.
Just keep reminding yourself that the FPGA is more complex than the Minimig and it will blow it out of the water once it is properly released. The ability to select different cores on startup will be a fantastic bonus. That was one thing I liked about the C-One, just a shame the Amiga core for that was so unstable on the hardware. | 700 bucks... ouch. That's before the 060 right? What would be the benefit of this over buying a $700 computer and emulating? I'm not trying to start a fight.. I just want to understand.

Yes, it's for a full assembled machine, ready to run, where you only have to copy your ADF files on the SD Card and with one empty 3,99GB HDF file.
@amigadave: Effectively, it would be great to have some intermediate updates for the firmware, but only Mike can decide it. And he only wants to release a full tested version, which he is 100% satisfied (which is nearly ready now).
I hope he gets this new release ready to run this month and I'll try AROS 68k on the FPGA Arcade board too ;)
Keep fingers crossed, it really worth it ;)
Thanks, Faranheit

| I have tried emulation of a real Amiga and I don't feel the same as using the real deal. Anyone feel the same or am I just nuts? _________________ Amiga A1200, 3.1 ROMs, Blizzard 1230 MKIV 64MB & FPU, 4GB DoM SSD, Workbench 3.1 |

It depends on what you have tried : software emulation (WinUAE for example) or hardware emulation (Minimig / FPGA Arcade board) ?
I have not the same feeling at all using WinUAE and using Minimig / FPGA Arcade.
The Minimig and FPGA Arcade are more closed to a real Amiga, WinUAE is more like using a Linux on a PC for example (this is my own opinion).

| Hi all,
Just for informations, for those who are interested, I have made a guide for the HDF file creation process using a PC with WinUAE or the Termianl on MacOS X.
It's available HERE.
Don't hesitate to give me your comments on it ;)
Thanks, Faranheit Last edited by Faranheit on 02-Feb-2013 at 11:14 AM.

to be honest i think winuae is a great thing but i mostly use it only as support or emergency substitute to my amigas. im not sure if there is any rational reason to feel it is not the real thing. it might have been the jit lag, but it isnt noticeable anymore. so the main thing is that it runs on windows and you have to fire up a host system to use it.
i dont know how fpgaarcade feels in this respect. it isnt designed entirely for amiga, so it might feel a little generic or alien. otherwise id design even firmware and core selection in early startup manner. |

Seems like a momentous moment in classic Amiga History. Enjoy it, expand it, and reap the benefits of countless tweaks made buy may 680xXX / AGA enthusiasts.
Finally the world makes sense. No more flufff.

Reagarding Aros 68k, ask Jason about it. I know that he too waited for the firmware update so he perhaps has a adapted version |

If you're on a budget, just buy the board. The board itself is ready to go. You just need a PSU for it (from RadioShack or an old PC supply). I use one of these (external molex PSU):
http://www.ebay.com/itm/External-Power-Supply-12V-DC-4-Pin-Molex-Adapter-Cable-/360170366699
Supply your own SD Card, keyboard and mouse and then make your own enclosure.
I hate to say it, but I've been using my FPGA Arcade as a bare board sat on my desk. _________________ AmigaOne X1000, A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, A500, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, CBM4032, Efika, Ultimate64 |

Yep, great guide! I've forwarded a link to your post to someone on AO who PMed me about HDF files. That should help him a lot. _________________ AmigaOne X1000, A4000(T), A3000, A2000, A1200(T), A1200, A500, CD32, Minimig+ARM, FPGA Arcade, Chameleon64, C-One, C128, C128D, C64C, C64, VIC-20, CBM 8032, CBM4032, Efika, Ultimate64 |

you will not get any considerable money for a barebone 1200. not so with 4000, but then id keep it except its one of the spares. |
